The Silla Dynasty 신라 Part 1 [History of Korea]

#korea #koreanhistory #silla #history #한역사 #historyofkorea (episode 6)
Silla 신라 (新羅), along with Baekje and Goguryeo, formed the Three Kingdoms of Korea. Silla was founded by Bak Hyeokgeose (박혁거세 거서간, 朴赫居世) in 57 BC. The kingdom of Silla stood until 935 AD. It lasted around 990 years and had 56 monarchs, making it one of the longest-running dynasties in human history.
In this episode, we will be start by looking at the foundation of the dynasty and discuss some early rulers of Silla. Next, we will talk about the Three Kingdoms of Korea 삼국시대 and the interactions between them. Then, we will look at how Buddhism became state religion when a prophecy was fulfilled with a monk named Ichadon 이차돈. Finally, we will talk about Queen Seondeok 선덕여왕 and the bone rank system 골품제도, which segregated Silla society early throughout its history.
Some more notable figures looked at in this video: King Beopheung 법흥왕, King Jinheung 진흥왕

Jurchens also USED to call them Solongos too. Also, Silla also used to be transliterated into Saro, sometimes I've even semed Sala. To clarify some mistakes: Hyeokgeose isn't likely borned from Lady Alyeong, as the Samguk Sagi never said that. His wife was born from purely the dragon's right armpit, as the legend goes. It was just in Alyeong's well where it happened. Then one old lady thought of it as strange and raised the Child. Samguk Sagi was written during the Goryeo period as well.

Xiongnu were originally Scythians. The Scythians were a mix of Indo-European tribes, Jews who had been relocated to Asia by the Assyrians 720BC and Greeks traders. The individual tribes were assimilated and the Saka were the dominate tribe. Historian typically show them only in the south. But place names and individuals show that the Saka and spread far and wide. You the Saka even in Japan in Osaka and to many other places like the Dan. The Dan were Greek traders who had migrated East starting Around 1200 BC till the Middle Ages when they had assimilated and historically forgotten. The Saka and the Dan from the beginning of recorded history spread Agriculture, metallurgy, writing, irrigation Architecture, and later Buddhism through Asia. Many of the names assumed to be native in most Asia history are actually descended from Saka or Dan linages.
