Hi! You can do it both ways. I found that my curls lasted longer when my hair was slightly pressed first. Results will vary for each person. I recommend trying different ways to see which gives the best results for you

How do you keep it from being flat in the back that's how mine came out… Flat but the sides in front were fine!
