Also, I feel the storyline of Alicia's mom wanting kill herself and Alicia was not explained enough. With the aunt still alive there could have been an explanation for that. That part feels incomplete.

I read this book in one day. I couldn't put it down. I thought the twists and turns were perfect with a truly incredible ending.

I have to disagree with you on Theo's motivation. He stalked an essentially innocent woman for months and then intentionally subjected her to incredible psychological torture, forcing her to shoot her husband. He sought Alicia out in thee Grove to torment her more. I don't believe for one second he wanted to help her. If he felt any kind oof remorse for Gabriel's death or compassion for Alicia, he would not have tried to kill her after she recognized him. And then he psychologically tortured his girlfriend FOR 6 YEARS!!! That makes him at least a sociopath, if not a full blown psychopath!

I agree. In the end he speaks about how disappointed Ruth would have been. Then he describes himself as evil.

This was such a well spoken review of this book! I tried explaining this to my boyfriend and I really couldn't do it justice! But wow did this book take me on a journey! I read it in one day, could not put it down. It was so well written and captivating/ unlike anything i've read before! The moment he described watching her through the window and the parallels betweeen that and her diary came to mind... I was like WAIT there aint NO WAY...

I think maybe Theo & Alicia both are the patients at the Grove. Just like Stonehearst Asylum. I think this book draws a lot of inspiration from Stonehearst Asylum. With a physiatrist only coming in for one specific girl in the asylum amd falling in love with her. With weird patients and doctors as well. He, himself having a long history of trauma and psychological problems. It all seems very fascinating, dont you think?

Thank you for the review. I enjoyed the book but it was dumb for Theo not to find the diary.

It was also very reckless of him returning that diary back to her.

I think Alicia hasn't written yet the last part about Theo injecting something on her resulting to her overdosing. He thought she wouldn't be able to write after being overdosed so he got careless about it and returned her her diary. Correct me if I'm wrong 😅

I realize you read this a whole long time ago, but I just read this. Maybe I should ask the author but I am curious. We discover that Alicia is actually being watched (when everyone around her thinks she is imagining this). Do you think her first time suffering from paranoia and being watched was actually a response to her father or was she being watched then too?

Well yeah, that's the reason why the police are there. They read the end of Alicia's diary where she reveals who put her in a coma amongst other things

Yes, arrested but like the rest of the book it is glaringly moronic. Would a lone police officer go to the murderer's home and have tea with him? That is right up there with letting a psychotic murderer have access to pool cues...
