funny enough, my husband studied animal science at UT the year I was pregnant with our son and I was shocked that cows were so similar to human women as far as gestational cycles go. Learning about cattle actually helped him understand my pregnancies! 😁 I just thought that was cool.

Thanks so much for this video. We just moved to a mini farm a couple of years ago, and we do NOT know much about this stuff, we are in the learning stages.. But, we have a heifer who we know jumped the fence went to the neighbors, and then she came right back afterwards. There were signs that she was bred, but we thought she would calf a couple of weeks ago and still nothing. One thing you mentioned that I had not heard, was the the vein thing in the center of her abdomen, I will have to go check our Molly out when I get home. I have been looking at everything else you mentioned, but I guess we will see what happens in the next month.

also a note: if or when you know they are pregnant, their belly will sag to the ground, and 24-48hrs before birthing the belly moves up from the ground and she won't look lopsided , which standing behind her....her backside looks very wide and yes the tail comes up more but that whole area looks much wider than any other time, meaning the baby is moving into the birth cannel! 👶👶👶👶 birthing time right around the corner!

Oregon, daughter's Holstein heifer is about to calve. You described appearance of V exactly, protruding flared and bouncy. Daughter called to buy two more day old calfs to graft. ...I suggested only 1calf. Thoughts?

My Dad always seemed to know exactly when he should call out the vet to have our cows inseminated. One time though he missed that our old cow Bernadette was ready. As he was walking out of the field he suddenly found himself with a hoof on each of his shoulders and old Bernadette walking behind him. Why that didn't hurt him he didn't know but let me tell you the vet visited that evening, lol!
