Sounds so much like Greek Cypriot. I know mainland Greeks hate it, but I feel a little bit proud that together with the likes of Pontic Greek and Greiko in southern Italy, we’ve all managed to preserve some of the language of our wonderful common ancestors. Let’s not lose these endangered dialects, we should teach them more in schools. It’s also a wonderful way to really unite Hellenism. These regions where these dialects are still spoken probably had to endure some of the most horrible events and still fought for and kept their ancestral tongues alive. Bravo ❤ 🇬🇷

Bro the Pontic Greek accent is 100 times better than modern Greek, Pontic Greek have heavy nice accent, and Cypriot Greek is very good and have some commons with ancient Greek accent. Modern Greek isn't sound good

I'm from Türkiye and I'd say this man is a typical Turkish uncle from the Blacksea region but here he speaks fluent Pontiaki 😯 this is just amazing..all praises to him for learning and keeping the language alive after hundreds of years and I profoundly hope he passes it to his offspring too.

I understood almost everything as a Greek from Rhodes

I grew up with this language. Can't speak it but I understand it. Weird . He's telling a story about a watch.

Merhaba to olous. Eimai apo tin Trapezounta. Atho emice şincenume Romeika pola kala. Pola yela😂 Ego egrume olous. Mpravo’sena emice mpravo👏🏼😄 %100 the same Romeika which we speak too👏🏼 And he uses some Turkish words too like duvar(wall), Cep(pocket) and some others. Btw glad to learn those Turkish words are in the original structure of Romeika language. That’s nice :)

@TK the words are old Greek. We aren't talking accent. The words/phrases...old ancient Greek. If your read old ancient Greek out loud, it comes out ponti Greek. Understand.

@@Garapetsa It's not the only one. There's also the Cypriotic Greek spoken in Cyprus and the Tsakonian Greek spoken in the Peloponnese, the latter being a descendent of the ancient greek dorian dialect.

No there's Tsakonian dialect as well in Lakonia as well as the Cypriot dialect retains many ancient words and sounds

He relatively has a good handle of Pontic Greek (more than average of how Pontic Greeks that came to Greece in 1920's-1930's speak it) but he's definitely not fluent. For instance he keeps switching between "η ώραν"(I oran ) and "το ρολόιν" (to roloin). The second term is in standard modern Greek and not Pontic Greek. He just added the archaic -n suffix to sound Pontic. Because "η ώραν" is both "the time" and "the watch" in Pontic Greek and because in standard Greek it means only "the time" he thinks "roloin" is the proper word in Pontic Greek too. Also he used the word "παινευκουνταν" instead of "κουρφευκουνταν" for "they praise themselves/brag". Again because he confuses modern Standard Greek terms with Pontic terms since "they praise themselves/brag" in modern Greek is "παινευονται". The only ones who speak proper Pontic Greek in Greece are the Pontians that came to Greece in the 1990's from Soviet Union from regions that were almost exclusively populated by Pontians.

Pontiaka is a Greek dialect like Kipriaka (Cypriot - Cyprus), Kritika (Cretan - Crete), etc... I am Greek and I can understand him talking because this is a Greek dialect of Pontus. That is because Greeks of Pontus, even the persecution, killing and genocide they suffered from Turks (mostly from Kemal's army and Turkish guerrilla army of Topal Osman), still survived and the region of Black Sea has many Turks with Greek (Pontus) origin even today. Back in 1910-1920 Kemal was ordered to those Greeks to change their religion (Christian Orthodox) and their language (Greek Pontian like the video) so they could stay in their homeland. Some of their ancestors preferred to change their religion (became Muslims) and they spoke their dialect secretly only in their houses so they could stay to their homeland Pontus. Other Greeks who they didn't want this either they were expelled or killed by the Turks.

@@athanasiosv3758 At the very base (its genesis) every word is Albanian, don't you ever forget that! In his case words like ; Ishte, Ora or Eci. But obviously most of the words he uses are Turkish!

Yet you're using letters that exist in the Turkish keyboard and not the Greek or English. Yep, you're Greek. Also the sounds "Ch" and "Sh" exist in Cretan and Cypriot Greek as well. If you don't like how the dialect that is the closest to Ancient Greek (according to many linguists) sounds, just keep it to yourself. No one cares about your opinion.
