Saw The Shins on this tour in Adelaide (Aug 2007). Blew my fucking mind. I was 45yo at the time and had seen heaps of amazing bands over the years, they were great. Top 5 live gig for sure, up there with Pink Floyd, The Stones and Dandy Warhol’s.

I wish I’d seen this tour but I wasn’t allowed into Perth Metropolis in Western Australia because I didn’t have valid ID. I was 28 years old with a paid for ticket. I actually cried.

Yeah they were great. The bass/keyboard player Marty seemed to elevate the zaniness of the songs. After the 2012 record the shins have become basically a relic.

@@climaxxfb3770 Its so weird. Wish James would have just left it how it was. Everyone on this performance sounded great. It makes me so aggravated when awesome bands like this, always turn to pop. Take The Strokes for example as well.

@@gavinfoote_Music_Surf But The Strokes still sound exactly the same as in 2002?! But yes, this was THE lineup for The Shins. Wasn't it due to Marty's domestic violence case that Mercer changed the whole lineup? It seemed like they all got the kick overnight, but I may be wrong about that. Great lineup anyways. I saw them touring the Chutes LP in maybe 2004, and I did not know the band - the following week I bought both albums. Such a great band with killer tunes in that era. Third album was alright, but already a slight decline I'd say. Haven't listened to any of their releases after the third one, but Mercer is a genius. Seemed like Shins went a bit more electronic on the fourth album or what?

@@deathkampdrone Yeah they started to go electronic on the 4th. I'm guessing it was an experiment for the band itself. Their 5th album was even more electronic. Then there was their latest 2020 release, "Great Divide". Compared to this amazing concert we just watched, Mercer has somehow managed to get a whole entire new sound. Its not good. It sounds just like everything you'd hear on the mainstream pop radio. The Shins sound we know and love is gone. It really makes me sad when bands go mainstream. Maybe one day they'll come back together and make something that sounds like the first three records. One day....

The bass in Know Your Onion!!!!! It makes me want to make hajj to Mecca and perhaps return within the fortnight.

Before watching this today I saw another live perfomance of The Shins with the current line up at the 2017 Six Music Festival in Glasgow. I have to say that this performance is way way better, in fact it pisses all over the other one. The band really click, and there's so much more synergy, energy and togetherness. They were a real band back then, now they just look like Mercer backed by a bunch of hipster hangers-on. Why oh why did he get rid of that line-up?

My sentiment exactly! I saw them live at the Gibson Amphitheater and i was thoroughly disappointed, the band seemed to just be going through the motions. The energy just was not there.

I didn't like the Heartworms sound at first, but the more I listened, the more it sounded kinda reminiscent of The Cars, which I'm totally into. Started looking at it through a different lens.

Great audience - singing along and having fun. Maybe the Shins are the most unappreciated band in their home country. Like Nickelback in Canada. Maybe the USA music industry should promote music more by how good it is rather than by stupid pigeon holing. This aint rap.

I just saw them last night in their hometowns actually (sold out) and everyone was dancing and singing like mad, so I must disagree. We can party in America too.
