The big misunderstanding by most fans is that the Prequels are not about the Clone Wars. The Prequels were about the fall of the Jedi, Republic and Anakin and the rise of the Sith, Empire and Vader. The Clone Wars was just a part of the Sith plan to conquer the galaxy. That is why we only see the beginning and end. Because how the Clone Wars starts and how it ends is what is most relevant to the story.

@@Acolyte_501st There is an insane amount of meaning just under the surface of Star Wars, especially the Prequels. I heard someone say that Obi-wan going to Kamino was soulless world building and had to explain to him that part of the movie is chalk full of themes. It's partly a commentary of how the Jedi lose their faith and rely on the "crude matter" of the Clone Army. Which is why the scene was designed to contrast with Luke going to Dagobah where he learns about the force and learns the the Jedi faith. The immorality of mass produced life and how mass production and technology can destroy individuality and natural beauty. The "technological terror" that was the Clone Army destroyed them. The Last Jedi explicitly tells you the theme of the movie because half the time what is being shown doesn't support it. People think that is genius. The Prequels just show you it's themes and hints at them all through out and if you just took some time to think about what is going on you can parse them out. The mass produced clones were paralelled by the mass produced droids and in the movie C-3PO says "Machines making machines!? How perverse."

The pod racing scene was probably one of the most exciting things I’ve ever seen in a movie at that age. Man, I love the prequels with all of my heart, but I just wish there could’ve been one or two reworks of the AOTC script! And I mean, though I say that with all humor and lightheartedness, I still honestly think it would’ve done the movie a HUGE favor. Because the concepts and general premise in this movie are GREAT. There’s just incredible storytelling. It just hurts that the really good story is often overshadowed by clunky writing and often downright terrible dialogue.

Gendy's Clone Wars was for me, from the ninth grade until the leadup to RotS, absolutely amazing. When the opening crawl described exactly what I'd seen in the final season, I was giddy. When Grievous walked up to the Invisible Hand's bridge and hecked and coughed, I was mindblown. Most folks would probably just think it was a Darth Vader reference, and sure, it might have been too. But beyond that, those of us who'd seen Gendy's Clone Wars KNEW why he was that way, and KNEW how it happened. It was amazing. I'm an unabashed prequel enjoyer, and they hold a special place in my childhood.

Growing up, I considered Attack of the Clones my favourite Star Wars movie. I really didn’t like the OT, cause they were old movies. I was a kid, don’t judge. But because of this kid bias, I loved the prequels and anything surrounding them with all of my little heart. And so most of the SW stuff I absorbed, was from the Prequel Era, including the 3D Clone Wars, which is arguably the best of Star Wars, and The Republic Commando books, which are undeniably my favourite Star Wars thing ever. And none of that would have happened without the prequels, and Attack of the Clones in particular. So if not for its actual quality as a movie, let’s appreciate AotC for all the lore it presented or otherwise inspired.

The theater managed to get some Stormtrooper to the screening and there was an intermission in the middle of the movie where a guy came out flanked by Stormtroopers and talked about the digital filming technology used for the movie and screening. What I remember most of all was after the movie was over my dad talked about how clean and clear the movie looked and was really impressed. My dads never been much of a Star Wars fan, but he was always amazed at how the movies pushed the boundaries of technology in cinema.

I understand some of the criticism but it still is a GREAT story and a GREAT set up. I remember as an 11 year old watching Empire and when Luke uses the force to pull the lightsaber to him in the wampa cave we all flipped out. It may seem like a trivial moment now but back then it was HUGE!! We had 3 years of wondering what Luke had learned and here was the first on screen proof that he was learning and progressing. AOTC was very much the same. Waiting for those years after TPM and seeing the relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin develop (the joke in the elevator right at the beginning put a smile on my face because the last we saw them was at the celebration at the end of TPM) was fantastic! It was almost like you wanted to yell at the screen to warn them both about what was coming if they continued down their paths. Plus even though the Clones werent developed via The Clone Wars series yet they were AWESOME!!! The battle was very cool and they brought the fight!!!!!

TPM shows why Anakin is so important, his strong attachment to his mom, why Obi-Wan wasn't right teacher to him, why he hates Tatooine, Jedi rules, Palpatine becoming chancellor, world building, etc...And of course, podracing and Darth Maul. AOTC actually tells a great story (Palpatine's rise to power by manipulation Republic and Separatists, Anakin's progression of falling to the Dark Side, start of the Clone Wars), develops characters, shows us real war, new planets, species, ships, droids, world, and has strong connection with 1 and 3. What does ROTS show us? The largest battle in the Clone Wars, deaths of Dooku and Grievous, Kashyyk battle, Anakin's conflict with Jedi and himself, his weakness (save who he loves), which perfectly works with saving Luke, Palpatine's manipulation and rise to power, Order 66, 2 amasing final battles and the creation of Darth Vader and Empire, birth of Luke and Leia, new hope. It is meaning for the whole Galaxy and is the most emotional.

Agreed. Not only did it expand the lore that took place between the films, but it opened a lot of other possibilities in the timeline as well. I think specifically about the “I will not let this Republic that has stood for over a thousand years be split in two.” What might have seemed like some inconsistency between this and the line spoken by Obi-Wan in A New Hope about how the Jedi were guardians of the Old Republic for over a thousand generations, it actually set the stage for further storytelling beyond the prequel timeline and gave us beloved storytelling in the way of the New Sith Wars and Darth Bane. It may have been unintentional, but still cool nonetheless.

What I ve noticed after debatting with people that prefer the sequels over the prequels (yes, they exist), is that a lot of people dont really get star wars. Sure the prequels have their flaws but the OGs too. What people dont get is, that the prequels are "secretely top notch" due to the parallels drawn to the OGs and of course George knew how to handle it since he is "the maker". Drawing parallels doesnt mean not using CGI to emulate Georges low budget 70s origins and feel like a fucking proud hipster after showing three forest and desert planets. It also doesnt mean to recycle an already existing conflict but using two other parties. What it really means, is to parallel the old characters story arcs, but in a more rich and versatile (less campy) environment, while still showing a story where the characters feel like, they are taking it seriously. Sure, the whole "we have an outcast hero crew that come together as the story goes on" has worked for the OGs since they were the first, but it was definitely not a good idea for the sequels, since at that point, the story is so established that it kinda feels irritating spending so much time with introduction. Plus they all felt like selfconscious star wars fans that could not believe that they are in the star wars universe and not like real characters. Another point that comes to mind is, that people have a wrong perception of what is childish when it comes to star wars. Jar Jar Binks is not childish, he is just comedic relief and supposed to appeal to children but he doesnt define the whole film (though a lot of people make it seem like it). On the other hand, if your main plot is finding a map to find our beloved hero (probably a weak attempt at something metaphorical like, only through our new characters will we be able to see our beloved heroes again), now that is childish. Dont try to interact with the audience in a weird real life selfconscious way, instead just deliver a good story and dont be ashamed of your product. It doesnt matter what people say, the prequels are so much more like the OGs than the sequels (in a positive way, not in a negative copycat way like the sequels). The only difference is that most of the people blame TLJ for the sequels downfall and I blame TFA 100%.

There is one facet of The Clone Wars Multimedia Project I wish would get more coverage than the microseries for its worldbuilding, the Republic comics. Every battle during the war was documented to some degree and we were given a much more intimate look at how the war gradually changed Anakin from a brash teenager to a battle hardened general and eventually the brutal enforcer for Palpatine. There were even numerous arcs on somewhat mundane but also interesting things from the third film like how Anakin got the scar near his eye and development of his force choke without overly explaining it. However, the best part about the series is it was written like a war documentary and lead characters were constantly killed in battles to emphasize how brutal and protracted the war had gotten where the line "The jedi were stretched too thin" makes perfect sense. It was a great method to make the war feel more grounded and the way it incorporated elements like the jedi schism and battles like Jabiim (later remade in some fashion in the 2008 TCW series with Umbara) did a great deal of explaining why the jedi were able to be overthrown at the titular ending of Episode 3.

When the prequels came out we were ravenous for more. I never got the Jar Jar hate. He was a comedic character for the kids. I have to say after re-watching The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones they still look pretty damn good. Really it's just some of the clunky dialogue that lets them down. Episode 2 gave us Jango and Clone Troopers. It also turned Anakin into a stroppy teenager.😁 Ian McDiarmid is a class act in all the films. After seeing "crazy" old Ben Kenobi in A New Hope and then Yoda in Empire I was happy to see more Jedi in the prequels. Give it 20-30 years and people will be loving The Force awakens etc.😳

AotC had the most action scenes or suspense of all the films, while it wasn't high-brow and complex, it does it more timelessly and to the theme of its series than most standalone films. The numerous attempts on Padme. The chase of Zam Wessel and Anakin & Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan vs Jango. Anakin taking his anger out on the Tuskens. The entire Geonosis stadium fight. The Jedi coming to the rescue, followed by the clones dropping in, leading up to the big battle on the ground, the chase of Dooku, then finally the duel with him. Several high speed, intense scenes.
