Thank you Ernst and Ryan for putting this information out there. I too have encountered a lot of people who have had their astrology assessed only through the Rasi chart, or the Rasi and the Navamsa. The wonderful thing about Vedic Astrology, I feel, is that it is very muti-dimensional and we should always check things against other vargas. Thank you both for sharing this important information!

Shashtiamsa is the what they called is KARMIC CYCLE across the persons life, do not ignore this chart this is the true dignity of the planets final placements in your horoscope and the real foundation of astrology....And also indicate that retrograde planets in Lagna Chart signifies karmic reward or repayment whether the planet is exalted or debilitated on Shashtiamsa divisions. It also represents your final soul's destination in this life which means a person will incur debt(s) in this life if the said retrograded planet is weak. Even if the planet has all the strength in Lagna and Navamsha chart but it's on enemy sign on Shashtiamsa chart the person will suffer the consequences of karma will he or she pays in this lifetime(s).

I have noticed the importance of the exact aspects (0 to 1 degree), taken from Western astrology and its influence on the Varga charts. For example, I have The moon in exact trine to the Sun and in many Vargas, they appear in conjunction or trine. Just as my exact opposition between Jupiter and Mercury, these two planets appear in conjunction and opposition in most Vargas. even a sextile of almost 1 degree between Jupiter and Saturn in my Rasi chart, becomes a conjunction in my D-60.

Wonderful, fascinating information! Especially the section on rashi aspects... three quick questions I hope one of you can answer. 1) Which node setting should one use? I notice they change sign/house in d60 between mean vs. true node. 2) does the ascendant of shastiamsa have any say over someone's appearance/body type somewhat, could we use that to help rectify (like if say, someone is trying to select between 2 d60...one has jupiter in cancer ascendant, the other is saturn in mercury ascendant - if the person is obese should we lean towards the cancer asc d60? 3) What is the method of calculating shastiamsa, if one wanted to try and draw it up themselves. I see jhora and some other softwares have options for "From sign" or "From aries" or "from aries and go reverse" etc. ? Thank you, great video !

Ernst and Ryan, I have been studying and practicing Vedic Astrology for a while, and ever since I saw this video I started paying greater attention to the D-60. Ernst said it is very difficult to identify the exact Lagna of this chart, the native must be pretty sure of his exact minute of birth. At first I doubted that I could really trust my D-60, but my birth certificate has a very sharp time documented. There are some other refferences that state the D-60 according to Sage Parashara as representing our past life Karma, what we brought from the past. That statement sort of puzzled me for sometime. Right after, Ernst mentions that this chart indicates the conclusion of life, how each planet is really going to manifest in the deepest level. With that information, I studied my D-60 like a regular chart and my God I was terrified with the things that I found. I mean, these were things very intimite that happened to me, I am not that old, 25 to be exact, but I can't leave here without commenting that I suffered an accident in the head, I had my head cut by hitting to a corner of a wall, and I lost a lot of blood. In my D-60 I have Mars in the 1st House, how is that possible? My D-1 does not indicate accident in the head. Another thing that shocked me is that I lost a brother to cancer at a very young age, Mars is conjunct Ketu in the D-60, Joni Patry once mentioned that Ketu represents death and withdrawal and Mars siblings, come on, that's exactly what happened to me. Not to mention that my father is eschizophrenic, but in the Rasi Chart my Sun is in the 5th House, so that would be impossible. As I got into the D-60, I have Sun in 12th in Aquarius, the Marana Karaka placement of the Sun, and Leo in 6th, forming Vipreet Raja Yoga. The mind of my father is lost to a disease. I could go on and on with this text, but what I would like to say is that according to my studies using Kala Software is that the D-60 is the most important Varga because it shows how each planet is going to produce its results at its deepest level. I understand my whole life based on the D-60, I dare say that not even the D-1 and the D-9 were that accurate. I am not sure if that is talked about, but considering the Dasha of a planet, my predictions increased 200% when I applied then to the Shastiamsa. Come on, man, now Astrology is really starting to make sense. Lucky boy I am to know the Lagna of my D-60. Thank you.

Do we need to consider degrees of planets in shastiamsa?

  • @samudranilchatterjee1562

Thanks Ryan for this wonderful video. As someone with a burgeoning interest in the subject of Astrology, I have always been curious about the role of Vargottama Planets. In my humble opinion, a perception that the Navamsa is the second most important Varga chart may have stemmed from the understanding that a planet is only considered Vargottama if it occupies the same sign in both the Rashi and the Navamsha charts and hence is considered particularly powerful for that individual. My question is that based on the shifting paradigms of Jyotish that both you and Ernst allude to, can a planet be considered Vargottama if it is not in the same sign in the Navamsa but in the same sign in the Shastiamsha and the Dasamsha as the Rashi chart? Would appreciate your clarity on this.

+Samudranil Chatterjee A planet in the same sign throughout the varga will show that planet have the same kind of flavor or resonance between different areas of life, which "can" make it more harmonious, but remember, harmony can be in a happy key or also in minor or sad key.

+Ryan Kurczak Thanks for the clarification Ryan but to refine my question further, I wanted to know whether a textbook definition of a Vargottama Planet only applies to the Rashi Chart and the Navamsa. Essentially, what I am asking is whether a planet can be considered Vargottama if for example it is in the same sign in the Rashi, D10 and D60 for example. I take your point however that a Vargottama planet could be harmoniously happy or harmoniously sad.

If the 10th house (actualy it is not a house but a sign,) in Rasi is empty, no planet here in Pisces, but in Bhavchalit chart already has a planet in it. So now if I only consider Rasi, how can I say anything, since that sign is empty, what to use any degree for that sign to predict something for the 10th house, if the planet is not there in Rasi? And what, if in Rasi in Spices theer is Venus, but in Bhava chalit chart Venus in Aries? Please help me !!!!!!!!!

If there were no planets in a particular house, it simply means things related to that house will not be the main priority in this life time.

Depends on how far Saturn is from Mercury in the Rashi chart. If Saturn is 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th, and 12th from Mercury, then Mercury becomes a great friend of Saturn giving great results. On the other hand if Saturn is 1st, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th from Mercury, results will be dull.

Where does this rule of dividing the varga number by 12 come from? No one has answered this simple question.

Unikrishna Panniker micheal reed addresses how you create Varga charts on one of his videos. If you understand how they calculate the Varga charts I think it would make sense to you.

I think i'll align myself with PVRN Rao on this. There is no such thing as Jaimini, Parashari or Bhrigu Jyotish. It's just jyotish, these rishis have concentrated at different areas of jyotish, you can (and should) use all of them in conjunction.

If people had any idea how the birth times on birth certificates got there, they would know that many MANY birth certificates don't have the correct birth time on it. So using this technique is just impossible. This was first brought to my attention by a father (who is also an astrologer) that all 3 of his children were actually born several minutes before the doctor (3 different doctors, 2 different hospitals) called the official time. In one case the child was born premature so they did all these tests and put it in an incubater and THEN called the birth time 17 minutes after his birth. You can't be ultra scientific when the data we have available is faulty.

The obvious issue here is that maybe only 1% of people have an accurate enough birth time (down to the 20 seconds) to use this varga

Please don't make astrology complicated. You don't need that much accuracy to make an accurate prediction. A correct time up to minutes will do your job .I mean if you are taking the seconds, Nadi astrology says that you have to take the child's head pop-up time (from vagina,of course.lol ) as the second. It's not that impossible, but still... If you need customized prediction reading, please read your Nadi leaf.
