Thanks as always for listening, folks! As I said in the intro, HB was in its infancy when we first tackled Innsmouth -- I hope this new recording demonstrates some maturity. Of course, the 2016 recording will remain live on the channel. PS -- If you listen closely to the new version, you might just catch the characteristic chuckle of 2016 Zadok...!

With the advancement of both your skill and recording techniques, it only makes sense that you would like to rerecord some of your earlier work. I appreciate you deciding to leave up the original. Sometimes I prefer the original versions. For instance, your first recording of "The Statement of Randolph Carter" had a frantic quality to it. I really got the impression that he was being interrogated. You had a great pleading aspect to your tone. All that said, adding details like the pencil scratching paper or the train or just ambient music to a clearer cleaner recording is always appreciated. I've listened to hundreds of hours of this channel and I hope to get hundreds more in the future. Thank you very much Ian for your dedication to the material and calming my cats daily. I am forever grateful

Doing my duty to boost the algorithm for the best narrator on youtube.

Certainly the best version of this story I found so far! Some have good illustrations, some have multiple characters, but this has the best overall quality

"I don't know too much about Innsmouth, but let me talk to you about it for 10 uninterrupted minutes." -The Ticket Agent
This is hands down my favorite Lovecraft story. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve listened to your original Shadow Over Innsmouth video, it must be nearly 50 times. Your voice and tone ARE Lovecraft for me, whenever I read any Lovecraft story I always hear your voice in my inner monologue. Thank you for bringing my favorite author to life for so many years ❤

Ever impressed, that demonic fish people, somewhere between praising Cthulhu and summoning Shoggoths, managed to learn about the prohibition, made a conscious decision to circumvent it and supplied their town with bootleg liquor. Great job as always!

As you know, not all the people were fishpeople, so it makes sense that the homegrown fishpeople and the failed fishpeople and the foshpeople support familiea would still want to procure some prohibition-era illicit hooch to dull the existential pain of being a fishpeople who hasn't gone down yet.

Well, fish and drinking go together. But, you'd think it would be a nice g & t.
Probably Lovecraft’s most iconic story next to “The Call of Cthulhu”
"It is a pity that people find our city weird and distribute certain rumors about us. The late H. P. Lovecraft had in deed some problems with some fishermen, not fishmen as many say, but this is not a reason to discredit our city. Committee for the Restoration of the City of Insmouth ". Thank you Ian.
Your original recording has been amongst my favorites for years. I’ve listened to it multiple times all through. It’s what brought me to pursue more of Lovecraft’s work in the first place. Genuinely, thank you. As for this recording, it’s greatly appreciated and absolutely fantastic.
Perfect! It's going to be cold and rainy here all day so this works perfectly for afterwork listening.
I never listened to the original. This is, crazily, the first time ive listened to innsmouth. Thanks!
Absolutely enjoyed the original version! Thank you so much for this newer version! Also, well done with the The King in Yellow.
What a treasure! 36:06 I love how "The Strange High House in the Mist" is identified on his way to Innsmouth. I do so love Zadok's tale. The background/environmental noise, sounds, and voices add an excellent touch. The change in the narrator's demeanor, by the use of tone, by the time the story ends is astounding.
I am totally adicted to HorrorBabble. I havent listened to any radio for months, Im tuned in to HorrorBabble audio 24 hours a day. Yes Ian is definately the best narrator on the web
SoI was the first HorrorBabble I listened to! So this is pretty special for me!
Your an absolute Legend brother. Your Lovecraft readings make my day every time. Couldn't imagine a better voice for this stuff. Great production as always 💯👌
Nice! I was just listening to the old recording...for like the millionth time. Im excited to hear the new and improved version
“Your witness says he saw us at half past eleven on the Gainesville pike, headed for Big Cypress Swamp. This is probably true, but I have no distinct memory of it…..” I very much enjoyed this even though I last listened only yesterday to this tale of Dagon and those who would call the deep home. Keep up the good work and, as always, stay safe!

Update: I love the new recording, but I kind of also miss the original Zadok, that performance had a weird unbalanced kind of narration that seemed to fit the character for me after a while. Your newest narration is more mature I suppose but Zadok just doesn't have that same sort of conspiratorial, frenetic drunkard energy of the original. He just doesn't sound as crazy and drunk right off the bat, like he should. Still not complaining, just my impression after literally dozens of listens to the original. Have to admit I'm a bit of a HB addict at this point..
Nothing wrong with the formative years, Ian. Your synthesiser skills remain top notch! Thanks for putting this on a bank holiday, so plenty of us can have a relaxed listen. :)
Thank you! I never tire of TSoI. I look forward to listening to this new version.
I think Joe Sergeant was my bus driver last time I took the old Greyhound. Lol. I have to say I love both versions you and Jen did Ian. Hard to pick a favorite.
Definitely one of HPL's finest stories. It gets better every time I read it (and in this case, listen to it).
This one and In the Mountains of Madness are my all-time favorite stories from Lovecraft. Great Job! Stay blessed!
This is the first Lovecraft story I read. And one of my favorites.
Oh man, this is fantastic. Just what i needed, this will make an afternoon of work go by. Thank you, m8.

I bought your original from Audible and I LOVE this richer deep voice. Thank you for the gift of wonderful narration.
I adore these re-reads. Getting to hear how the channel has grown and all the different touches to these great stories. I'm sure it might just be me but I'd love to hear an updated version of the Randolph Carter series but I know it must be an absolute mountain of a project. Always great work Ian

Very enjoyable. Thanks for your work.
Ian your arsenal of New England accents marks you as world class talent! Not just this recording but other stories too! Especially the ones set in Maine😊.
It's just getting better each time. Thank you good sir. It just feels like hearing an aged scholar telling his life story.
An excellent rendition of one of my favorite stories! Thank you for this 😁
The second time around you have more time for the deeper echoes of these Tales. Good Job again....
This was unexpected Ian but a pleasant surprise! Ialways used to love the old one, it was one of the first of your recordings I listened to. That said you can see how much you've grown into this stuff, this one is great, hits the tone just right. This was always one of my favorite Lovecraft stories, the way it builds up tension and a sense of unease at the start, with the stories about Innsmouth and then the guys exploration of the ruined town, leading uo to Zadoks crazy story, that you're wondering how much truth is mixed in with it, and what the real story is, and then the attack at the Hotel, and his frantic flight through the streets at night... Lovecraft was a master at this stuff, and you do his stories justice in a way no other narrator Ive listened to can. You have a real talent for this.
Niiice, love it!
Thank you!!!!
Wow! Excellent - so professional. Loved the unobtrusive sound effects which added to the feeling of the story. you both have certainly learned much and know how to use that experience. Really enjoyed this new version. Thanks much to both of you 🎭🌷🌱
Thank you!!
You're kidding right? Your first reading was an absolute masterpiece. I have easily listened to you tell that story more than just about any other. If I fall asleep to this story any more times I'm gonna wake up a Deep One.
Perfect timing for a bedtime story! Love this, thank you!!
Thank you so much
True storytelling, way beyond merely reading. Wonderful.
Another amazing reading of my favorite Lovecraft story.
Wow Ian, your narration has always been great, but side by side with the other version of the Innsmouth tale shows how much your acting has improved. This is just fantastic, keep it up!
