The fact that Polo and Marco aren't even hunting you they're just playing a regular game that you interrupt is so funny to me. These guys must be bored as hell rotting away alone in an abandoned asylum, trying to pass the time, and then you show up and dunk one of them into the toilet before they can even realize you're there. Prime bully material.

Let's not forget that Polo is disgusted with bathrooms and refuses to help Niccolo and Anthony clean that very bathroom in the Prequal game 😱 He makes comments about caring deeply about his complexion and having distinctive finer tastes so Polo straight up getting dunked in a dirty old toilet while playing a game is probably his worst nightmare 😭

@@mymomwantsmetobeadocter6870 Hmm 🤔 Well, it seems that Polo has a thick accent. Nothing to be scared of! In the Prequal game we get more written dialouge from Polo and he actually at one point says "Good luck, my friend." In Italian to Anthony, indicating he's probably indeed Italian knowing he has an accent. It's not clear to me yet if Niccolo (the kid who "imagined" Polo) is Italian or if he just imagined Polo that way but it's probably the latter as it seems these Imaginary friends have their own distinct personalities and traits apart from the kids who Imagined them. 🤔 As for his actual voice acting in this game, I heard the game developer actually had his Family help him with filling the voices. I don't know who voices Polo but I think it's the Game developer himself 🤔 (I'll have to do some digging to double check that fact tho)

The smartest horror protagonist ever, gets all the evidence he needs, runs and tries to hide, and once he leaves and finds out he's missing his keys, he doesn't run back in for them he run to get police help. Overall pretty smart guy.

The detective is a reasonable man. He takes notes, and runs for his life when he gets the chance. Very wise. He doesn't linger 'solving puzzles' or 'finding secrets'. He sees that he has discovered a supernatural force, and he plays by his rules, and runs for his life. He doesn't question what these things are. He doesn't leave useful stuff behind, either. I actually love him.

Something I noticed about the closing cutscene: None of the imaginery friends intervened with Pooky's chase. They all just watched, and then pulled him out when he got stuck. I fully believe we were playing as Anthony. Now I really want to see the prequel game to know what happened!

​@@stawpppOvOWe don't actually know right now. In TFWLB, if that IS Anthony we play as, he's nowhere near when it goes up in flames, so more likely someone else did it, maybe the Friends. As for IFA, it could be his fault but it could be someone else, we won't know until the full release.

Great games

I have a theory that the private investigator is Anthony Rivers, the protagonist of Imaginary Friend Asylum. The missing children in the first cutscene are most of the kids we met in Imaginary Friend Asylum (I assume the other two are Pixie and Dolly’s kids, the only ones who haven’t shown up in IFA yet) Something really bad must have happened in IFA - hopefully the children escaped and are legally missing in action. I think Anthony misses his friends and wants to find them again, and revisits the asylum to get clues on their whereabouts, not knowing that the Imaginary Friends were left behind.

But we don't have enough evidence to say that this IS Anthony for sure and now just another kid from the asylum or someone completely different. Edit: Pooky also WOULD have used Anthony's name since he's used it before (I get that the game came before the prequal as I've played after my brother dared me to on Halloween night since I wasn't going anywhere)

Okay okay. Hear me out. What if the man IS Anthony? Itd make some sense. If the man was one of the docs, wouldnt have Pookie been more hostile since they are the ones that you know, Took his bff? And remember in the letter, they were gonna use him, but ended up picking Annabelle. It seemed like Pookie ran into an old friend he couldnt ever forgive, not like an evil doc who hurt and stole his bff

Yea I think that may be the case, I think most of the comments agree as well. It would explain a lot though but I think we have to wait for the full game of imaginary friend asylum.

My personal theory is the detective we play as is an adult Anthony, the fact Pooky recognizes them helps lean into that being the case. If it is true I think the other imaginary friends should have said something to indicate they recognized the detective too.

Maybe because all the experiences the imaginary friends have had with adults are bad so they think he's another bad guy but Pooky knows its him maybe because of how Anthony can see them (the friends) and no other adults can

This game is so simple yet so charming at the same time I love it It really goes to show that you dont need some uber hyper realistic triple A game that eats up 90% of your computer's space to have an enjoyable fun game I'd love to see more from this creator in the future

I think the investigator is Anthony Rivers, just a guess because there's a time that Pooky said "So you've returned", it literally means that Pooky recognises him and the fact that the detective can see the imaginary friends. Just a guess haha :3

The detective has to be Anthony since Pooky recognised him also his name isn't on the list of missing kids. There are 7 imaginary friends. My theory is that the ghost of the asylum took the kids or perhaps had Annabelle lure them to him and then well i really don't want to even entertain this idea but i think the so called ghost probably butchered them and scattered their remains.

Imaginary Friends Asylum is the prequel. It's assumed we play as an older Anthony because the friends recognize him and he can see the friends. This is set 28 years later making the setting 1977.

The Context given in IFA makes this game so much creepier, knowing that its not thr canon ending for the timeline but it still did happen in A timeline

I'm so happy you went to play this, we found it after seeing Asylum and went "wait this is new, he needs to play this". I love the character designs and concepts being shown in them, they're so good for being relatively simple so far. The friends are so friggin good looking!

I actually thought that the protagonist of this game was Anthony Rivers, the kid from Imaginary Friends asylum even before you said it lol! If you watch 8 Bit-Ryan's video about the main game. hollow (Anthony's imaginary friend) its revealed that this is a DIFFERENT timeline. Basically, if you go out of your room and the nurse sees you haven't taken your medication then you get the lobotomy, but Anabelle saves us and she gets it instead. Hollow then explains that your other friends get the lobotomy too while you escape. As you become an adult its revealed that your friends are "missing" when in actuality the imaginary friends (like pooky and pixie) take over their bodies whether they want to or not. Hollow also explains that pooky is the only one who recognizes you, but he is so filled with rage because Anabelle died that he won't recognize you until last minute when you leave and complete all the puzzles. so yes, you are correct that is Anthony but much older and in a different timeline. Also there are three timelines in the main game. the first one is where we died by our bullies, then next timeline is THIS timeline (the friends we left behind) and the last timeline is the timeline throughout the main game. Thats what I mean by different timeline. What SuperHorrorBroMike is playing is the SECOND timeline explained in the first game. I hope this helps everyone with the confusion and im sorry if my comment is confusing

I believe that the theories everyone has is correct. That this character is Anthony Rivers. Pooky knew who he was, since Protag knew Annabelle or was implied to know who she is. We didn't hear Polo interact with him so we can't rule out he doesn't know. And both Protag and Andrew have the capability to see them but doesn't have one themselves. Plus, why go with a random kid that wrote the letters who can see the friends but not have one of his own? Why not got with Annabelle? From the wiki itself: "This could be evident as Anthony hasn't been reported missing and that the Imaginary Friends seems to recognize him."

I like the game design and I hope we get to see more from this developer! They make very good games!

I like how unlike alot of mascot horror games this game got a prequel so you know what happened to the kids and it not just vague with random lore.

I'm excited for the full prequel, I do think the private investigator is Anthony. I'm curious if there would be another game to show where the imaginary friends go. I hope Anthony teams up with them, I would like to know where his old friends are.

The main reason that people suspect Anthony is the Detective is that its implied he knows them since Pooky recognised him, and the Imaginary friends besides Pooky didn't seem to want to hurt him, only 'play' with him in very messed up ways. Also, the game isn't a sequel too the Friend Asylum, Imaginary friend asylum is the prequel to the Friends we left behind. This game was made first as a somewhat demo. Like Fnaf 2 being a prequel to Fnaf 1

@@charondusk5608 Again, no, IFA is a PREQUEL too this game, not the other way around. This game was made first, and IFA was made second, thereby its not a sequel. A Prequel is a game or movie that chronologically takes place before another was released in that universe's setting, but was still made after the original game/movie.

What could be the reason the others didnt recognize the detective was because their minds have been warped. Think about it. Theyre connected to the children. When the children die theyre stuck there with no direction. Slowly over time their mind becomes warped because theyre stuck lonely forgotten and angry that their best friends are gone. The darkness in ones mind can create something wholly new. Something that isnt able to recognize that somethings wrong with them. Id say maybe one or two hadnt succumbed to insanity but a majority of them did. Their sense of reality is warped. Pooky probably more so because his childs brain was scrambled. Idk its just a bit of an all over the place theory but I believe the childrens Innocence played apart in their good nature. After everything changed their innocence was shattered. So the darkness of the subconscious took over and tainted each friend.

This sequel is more terrifying than the prequel

I love how in these playthroughs I whatch of this game pretty much everyone mistakes Polo for Pooky. Its so laughable. Rant: I also find it pretty interesting that Polo would choose to play with Marco scene they're pretty much opposites of each other. Polo doesn't like to get dirty, while Marco is like that dog that'll just jump into a puttle of mud when they get the chance. It really shows how they have no other choice but to mess around and play with people that have different habits then them lets say. It also really seems that Marco and Polo know each other well judging by what Polo says when Marco says that he hates Hide-n-Seek.

So according to the list in the beginning, the missing kids are Annabelle Walker, Edward Bennett, Tommy Bennett, Momo Akane, Niccolo Gallo, Pete Gustavo, and Charlotte Weaver

Purple one: Polo Green brother: Twistee Blue brother: Smudge Pink one: Pixie Red one: Pooky Yellow one: Dolly Orange one: Marco

Well, the fact that the title is "The Friends We Left Behind" implies that at least someone was able to escape. So that's good! Look on the bright side! Someone got out! (Probably Anthony, but maybe the other kids escaped too.)

Honestly I think it is somewhat pointing to that kind of theme. I do think it’s specifically about the mistreatment of patients in asylums, but clearly these children were thrown away as trash by their parents, and then had to suffer the trauma of the asylum with everyone thinking they are “insane”

When I saw it pop up, I was like dropping whatever I was going to do & watch this. This video is very good plus I'm hoping that the prequel game will be a full one because I want to know how it continues and how it ends. I’m watching this after I saw your part 1 of Imaginary Friends Asylum and I see the names Niccolo, Tommy, Edward, and Annabelle

MARCOOOO!!! POLOOOOO!!! (I love they put the irl game in and the names fit it perfectly) the prequel when Marco was introduced I was like “BRUH THATS SO CUTE I LOVE THE REFERENCE TO THE IRL GAME”

Its interesting rewatching this after having played the other game. Because now we know that the reason Pooky seems to ignore us a lot of the time is probably because he's searching around for Hollow, and you find yourself wondering if the friends recognised you and were trying to play games with you but have simply become twisted, etc.

I think that the kid we play as in imaginary friend asylum is the person we play as in the friends we left behind

After watching the playthrough, it's really dark yet depressing of what became of the children, and their imaginary friends.

It's interesting as this implies he left behind his friends to escape however the girl also want missing. Which for some reason the friends think he took her when in reality it was probably the doctor but why the doctor would only take her and not the other children idk. Also why the friends would see it as him taking her is odd too if both planned to escape then she wasn't taken but left on her own accord with him. So it would be more of where did you two go, and not implying he did something bad with her which they are trying imply. Also if he didn't take her or they did escape together why not just tell them instead of just running away, like he asks so just answer? He only threatened after you refused to tell him. So.. I guess he did do something bad to her? As it would be the only reason not to just answer. Though I don't see how or why he would of done anything bad to his friend who they planned to escape with anyway. And because the escape worked for him why not her or the rest of them for that fact. The one thing that is safe to assume is all the others died in this asylum because the imaginary friends would of left with them, and we do see that grave in the other game with the imagery friend standing over it. Actually the girl maybe still alive but due to the lobotomy she was sent to a more intensive care place though I can't imagine they had multiple asylums for this tbh and still wouldn't make sense why her imagery friend didn't go with her since they are always by each others side. Lots of unanswered questions that I can't wait to find out what they are. And no I won't say I have a theory this is the main guy because yes we all are guessing that.

Its allways mindblowing that it looks like one Person, makes a Game that is more intressting and has more unique monster Designs (and give us a better look at them) then most Triple A Studios. I wish the dev that the other Game makes very well, he deserves it. 💪😺 ✌️🐰

This game is based on the alternate timeline. Where Anthony and Hollow are the Asylum's lone survivors. All the other children were lobotomized and their imaginary friends to over the children's vacated minds and bodies. Sad only Anthony can see them

I'm pretty sure that the investigator is Anthony. After hollow went back in time, which is Anthony's second life, that's where the story resides of Annabelles sacrifice and Anthony's transfer out of the asylum (This led to the other orphans' disappearance and imaginary friends' rage prolly?). Time skip, Anthony became an adult and became a priv. investigator. After that, he went back to the asylum to investigate the disappearance of his friends and was shocked to find that there are still traces of them (their imaginary friends). All of them didnt recognize adult Anthony since he already grew up but the only one who recognized him was Pooky, and the rest yall already know xD...Im bad at explaining so I think it might be confusing...that's all...

My theory is: That When Hollow was explaining to Anthony in the first game how she explained that in Timeline 2 That Anthony was the only one to escape out of the asylum And The private Investigator is definitely Anthony because they show us in the first game in timeline 2 That pooky was trapped in the gate like in this game So this could be s sequel to what happened in timeline 2 And The private investigator can still see the imaginary friends and in the first game How hollow explains to Anthony That pooky was the only one who remembered him So this is 100% in timeline 2 But hey! Thats just a *Theory!* A *Game Theory!*

I have a theory about why the imaginary friends are still there and the kids are not. I think that the Kids got (or will get) lobotomized and part of their brains are taken out and are stored in jars inside the asylum and that's why they are still there after the kids dying.

I saw this on his steam page and knew it was only a matter of time

It was like the imaginary friends are mad and lonely ever since the Asylum somehow burned in the game: Imaginary Friends Asylum (Full game maybe coming out soon) and the Imaginary friends aren't friendly anymore and are more hostile. We see more new imaginary friends though, cool gameplay!

I think you definitely play as Anthony here. In IFA there are several points where it seems like Anthony is talking about what happened at the asylum. That could happen after the police arrive and they see it burning down. That or he's in therapy. Regardless, he's talking about his experience. I feel like the way the characters look in IFA support this theory because everyone starts out as a black shillouette. Over time the kids (specifically Niccolo) gain more features (by the end of the demo we can see Niccolo's hair in more detail). Compared to that there's Boris, the man who tried to help (according to the demo) who has glasses that stand out. I also recall that when the doctor is introduced he is significantly less of a shillouette compared to everyone else. I feel like the way the characters look is likely a trauma response of blocking out unnecessary information in order to survive. The reason the doctor's face is remered is because he is a threat. Of course I could also be misremembering things but I feel like it's pretty safe to assume that Anthony is the player character in both games. They're both really well done and the story is absolutely incredible. The game dev did an incredible job :D

The investigator is obviously Anthony Rivers, the protagonist in imaginary friends asylum, because of not only the voice lines, but on the missing persons case in the opening of the game, the list of missing people ends before saying his name, so he didn’t die in the fire like the others. Another reason is Pooky’s hostility towards us. We know that Annabelle had a lobotomy and forgot pooky, so it’s probable that Pooky blamed Anthony for that. And him most likely starting the fire since he’s the only one not missing, Pooky blames Anthony for his home being burnt down.

It's so sad that the Imaginary Friends are left behind, I really want to learn more lore.

I see a lot of commenters saying thet the investigator is anthony rivers i agree but one pont of evidence that has not been brought up is the name. "The friends WE left behind" the we implys that the player also left them behind

Well i feel like we may be playing as andrew who after watching all of his friends die ran away and now only came back now to reconcile especially since in the game andrew is the only one who has no imaginary friend and is still able to see them but thats just a theory A GAME THEORY

I wonder why The Detective refused to tell Pooky what happened to Annabelle after her lobotomy? When Annabelle stopped seeing Pooky was Pooky just trapped in the asylum?
