I got the single when it came out in the fall of 1979, or early 80 (with "Too Much Pressure" as the B side). Classic 2 tone ska with The Beat, Madness, The specials....

This is one of my favourite songs from that late 70s/early 80s 2Tone Ska scene, which was absolutely massive over here in the UK. I have never been much of a one for dancing, but even I can't help moving when I hear this track!

Hi Justin. Dave from Beyond The Sea. Really infectious single and part of the 2 Tone movement that was huge at the time here in Britain. Recently enjoyed a TV drama called This Town, about the group of black and white youngsters from Coventry, England setting up a band around this time, with the backdrop of riots against the government. I recommend it, if it turns up in the States.

There were some really catchy tunes that came out of the Two Tone movement. Mirror In The Bathroom by The Beat is my favourite. I get what you mean about the Devo sound, it's that 'wonky' chorus that does it.

I still have the original LP of this that I bought in college. This song does appear on the US version of the album, the whole of which is great, by the way. As others have mentioned this does like some sort of remix or re-do. It sounds a lot more polished than the original.

Next song on your “ska” journey, I recommend you to listen to “my girl”, by Madness. Loved them then, still loves them after 45 years. And they are still touring and making new music. Another great Ska band to check out is Specials, short carrier, but great band, great music.

I remember this one! I had this vinyl around the time of it's release. Sounds fresh! Ska had a heyday right about then, especially from the UK, breaking through to US audiences, me included. I bought 6 or 8 albums - I remember this as one of the better ones. The title track Too Much Pressure is fun too. Surprised to hear it wasn't on the album - maybe it was on the US release, which I must have had. And yeah, I think it was about the same time as Devo, some similar sounds there.

This is a re-recording, and it seems quite prevalent for some reason. To hear the original, KZread doesn't like links in comments, but you can assemble the link using v=-50eodYlQW0 The difference between these song versions may seem quite subtle to those unfamiliar with the song, but absolutely glaring to those who are. This version just sounds wrong, especially the chorus part.

There were a few great also rans of the 2-Tone Ska scene, You had The Specials, Madness and The Beat at the core of it, but also smaller acts like this who managed 1 or 2 hits (sometimes very minor) and did not really get a chance to shine. Bad Manners despite being big at the time, always seems to gets overlooked because they were effectively the clown princes of the scene.

You never heard of them...! And just two days ago I mentioned them in the comments! Now you release a reaction. Which probably was recording LONG before it's being posted here and I mentioned them! 😂 Great song, and the band has some great music. I'd recommend "Three Minute Hero", "Too Much Pressure", "My Collie (not a dog)" ... a well, just the whole "Too Much Pressure" Album! And also the album "Celebrate the Bullet" -- the title track "Celebrate the Bullet", "Bombscare", "Deep Water", and especially "Washed up and Left for Dead". If you like this music, then also listen to The Specials! Start with "Gangsters", or "Ghost Town". They have so many good songs. And don't forget "Bad Manners" -- another very fun Ska band from the same era. "Lip Up Fatty", "Special Brew", "Inner London Violence", "My Girl Lollipop". PS: The Selecter refers to the club DJ. On this channel, you are the Selecter. 😉
