Seiko SKX007 - The watch that started it all
We all have that first introduction, the watch that goes beyond just telling us the time. For me it was the Seiko SKX007 that made it all click for me. This watch has always punched way above its weight class. What it has in charm in matches with iconic dive watch language,. To this day I love this watch. Hope you enjoy my brief story on how this watch got me into the hobby.
Thanks for watching,

Been rocking my SKX007 for close to 15 years now.
Looked at the SKX007 for years and never pulled the trigger then it was discontinued. This December I will graduate with my Masters and bought the SKX007J today as a gift to myself… My how things come full circle.

SKX 007 is my love in world of watches ❤
A co-worker traveled to Romania in the 1980s and I asked him to bring me back a Seiko quartz dress watch because the currency exchange was favorable. He vetoed my selection and instead brought me back a Tissot Ballade mechanical that I still have to this day. I was immediately smitten by mechanical watches and many years later bought an SKX007 as my second mechanical watch that I wore every day for many years. At some point I started collecting and now have an Oris moon pointer and chronograph, a Tissot Seastar 1000(the early 2000 version) and couple of quartz oddities. The SKX007 will always hold a nostalgic place in my collection and remains my go-to watch for camping. It's a true beater that I don't worry about abusing or dunking in the lake and the long lasting bright lume can be read all night in a sleeping bag.
NEGRONI!!! Your editing and videography skills are so insane. I cannot! Loved this review and the personal touch.

I picked up a Seiko 7548 (the quartz version of the SKX007) in a thrift shop in Hilo, HI years ago. It's unique because it has a Japanese Kanji option in the day wheel instead of English abbreviations for days of the week. I have bought and sold multiple pieces since then, but this one has been a constant.

That is very cool 👌🏼 I would of liked to have the skx007j just because from what I’ve read they were built a little better than the K variants. But the aesthetic of the skx is universal
Love the SKX. I bought one in college for like $190 on sale. I've since bought other watches, but it's the one that I wear the most. It's really blown me away after they were discontinued how much they increased in value because they are that GOOD. Seiko made a mistake by discontinuing them.

I agree. The replacements are merely dice style watches and no longer certified dive watches.
The SKX wasn't my first "serious" watch, it was my last. I did the research; all of the videos about how it was out of date with a old movement. How it wasn't worth the money. I had no interest in buying one. Then they stopped production. Then the prices started to increase. Then they started to make homages. Homages? To the SKX? WFT? I figured if they're selling SKX replicas, then why not just buy the real thing? When I got it and took it out of the box, I realized the mistake I'd made. The mistake I'd made 5 years ago, when I didn't buy an SKX then. If they ever bring back an updated SKX (NOT a 5KX). I'll buy another one.

My sweet brother. You aren't alone. I screwed up myself too when I wasn't able to read between the lines. Constantly increasing price and reduced availability after historic decision of discontinuing in 2019. Now it's being sold for 10-12 times it's "once" price. And even worst is it's not at all available. No homage can do the justice. They should re continue it.

Man. This one spoke to my heart. My first watch was a skx009J Pepsi bezel because naturally I couldn’t afford a Rolex Gmt. That was about 7 years ago. I just got my Rolex Gmt Pepsi a month ago and it has made me respect my Seiko all over again because of the journey. Keep up the content my guy 👍🏾

I got into this hobby some years ago when my daughter was just a little girl. My first automatic watch was a Tag Heuer Carrera and I still love it till this day. My daughter and I went to a father/daughter dinner date with her school and we had pictures taken and in the picture you can see me wearing that watch and one day it will be hers to have and pass down and share with her children her experiences during those times. Since then, I've collected the 007 and many other designs and to quote Kevin O'leary, "collecting watches is a disease..." Now that my daughter is grown, I'm slowly introducing to her the hobby. I have an heirloom of a watch that belonged to my grandfather which is a 1951 Hamilton windup which he wore everyday. A watch that was given to him from a mens club that he was apart of and it was dated with his name engraved professionally on the caseback. I have memories and pictures of him wearing it and there really is a strange connection that comes with these little time pieces when you hold and wear them. Likely my collection will be passed on to not only family, but also friends. Great review, please keep the videos coming. ✌️🙂

Great video...I have a very similar journey and time frame with my love for mechanical watches. I've had a watch on my wrist from the days in elementary school starting with a Freestyle Shark watch (that I still have) and moved into various quartz watches until the recent love and affection towards mechanical. I was able to purchase my SKX007J model at retail before soon after it was discontinued and added the same Seiko jubilee bracelet as I wanted the stock look and feel and I'm glad I did. I have gotten alot more attention and compliments on this watch that I have ever imagined and it has been on my wrist everyday since. Thanks for sharing your journey and thank you for your service! Your To-Do list cracked me up btw...lol!!!!

Fortunately you can still get a new 7S26 movement, in a Seiko 5, and fairly inexpensive.

Nice video again! You have skills! Seiko watches are great bang for buck. I agree, that for me watches are more about the memories and happy times I have with them, than building a collection. My gateway watch was a Seiko from a totally different aesthetic. an SSA425, love the old school design and the way it can easily be worn in many different situations both casual and more serious
Casio AE1200 is what got me into watches. I gifted it to a good friend of mine, and I now have a different quartz-beater(GWM5610). It really isn't about just always chasing the next thing, but also finding appreciation in what we already have.

My first "real" watch I bought for myself was the Tissot PRS200 around 20 years ago. I still have that one. My first automatic was a Seiko SRPB91K1 (discontinued). It became my beater and has gotten quite a few "scars" over the 5 years I've had it.
I still have that 007... Running smooth as butter... Since 2000! My father gave that to me when I was a kid on 2006... My dad was so mad when he checked it and it has some scratch... I didnt bother until last year, i didnt think about price hahahahaha i still use it today, the glow green on dots was already fading and has low glow... Also my divers color became orange hehehehe but still i love it... Simplicity but everyone knows this classic

No watch fades, patina, hands get darker etc....and show the wear and tear like A Seiko SKx or a Seiko 6309. As a matter of fact, if i go to the beach I much rather have a Seiko SKX or 6309 on, than any other watch for aforementioned reasons. You can keep the newer Sapphire crystals and bezeks that do not show wear.....they are not a tool watch, they are a piece of jewelry.

Im wearing mine right now actually, its up in rotation. So many people dislike the OEM bracelet, but not me. I bought a Strapcode replacement and my SKX at the same time because of what people said, but never changed it out because the OEM is so amazingly comfortable. Just be careful when putting on heavy jackets, like motorcycle jackets, because the links can catch on the cuff. I'll never sell mine.
Everyone talks smack about the “rattliest jubilee”. I have a large collection and three Rolexes…. And it’s the most comfortable bracelet period. Change my mind!!! I even tried the upgraded fancy straco oyster and jubilee for the Skx and I hated them. The jingly one is for sure jingly but absolutely the most comfortable hands down!!

Dont see the attraction of the skx. It was discontinued but there were also millions and millions made. Not worth 1000$ by far, not rare not made in Japan either. Seiko does not make those models in Japan. They are made in Malaysia in the same factories as the K models. They are just marked differently and labeled “made in Japan seiko is cagey for not clarifying this and confusing people. Had soo many arguments about this. Only the high end seikos are made in japan. The rest are made in Malaysian factories with Japanese factory management. This is a loop hole
