KZread's automotive content creators are far better than what you see on TV or any of these reality shows. I find the later has far too much artificial suspense/deadline focus - the editing makes benign situations look like conflict.

It's way more fun to watch a car being built on KZread for months than in 1 episode on TV.
"Good enough for camera" sums up Vegas and their cars pretty well
This looks like an excellent way to start the morning.
i think everyone knows by now that reality tv is anything but. the only reason they still exist is because the people that create it and the people that pay for it are completely clueless about what people actually want to watch. i havent had cable or netflix or hulu in years and i dont miss it. theres so much legitimately good and real content on youtube that i couldnt watch everything i wanna watch if i tried.
I think youtube would be a better opportunity than going to traditional TV. Not only do you have full control of your content you also have a direct access to your audience

You know homeboy loved that Las Vegas TV Thing..
2-3 years ago when I was in Vegas on my yearly trip , I was like oh I wanna go see these shops. So took a cab over to kounts cars , which is off of industry road back in the industrial area and down the road from spearmint rhino strip club. I paid my money and toured the place and they were all nice. And then I asked one of the kounts people where WelderUp was and the guy was cool enough to drive me over there since he was leaving too. And I had never met the guy before this encounter. I then spent some time over at WelderUp and looking at the cars. You could tell that they did precision work as far as fabrication and paint , but somehow made it look like it wasn’t supposed to be , kinda genius in my opinion. But yeah that car community there seemed nice
Serious question: All in all, was the business gain from the TV exposure worth the sacrifice?

I can't speak for these shows but I can speak about an Aussie company with a reality TV spot and the answer for them is a resounding yes. Then again I know an American company that didn't really pick up that much from a season they did a few years back. I think it is very dependent on your business and remember they get paid pretty damn well if the show is a hit and gets continued past season 1.

This is great. Would love to hear more of the behind the scenes stories of these automotive shows.
Rollie is the most relatable peson on the show honestly.
Funny thing- a buddy of mine lives across the street from Glen T. (he has been on CC and other shows) outside Vegas. Met him, saw some of the stuff he was working on. We evened fixed an issue on my F350 right there in the street. Glen even allowed me to take pics and shared them with my car buddies. Super cool, nice guy
I think the youtube option is the best. You can control the work and schedule. It doesn't surprise me that production companies do shotty things. It's no different in corporate America, the big business says "do it this way." you reply "That's not the right way." and they say "doesn't matter, it needs to be done now, we're moving ahead." Then a little time down the road when problems arise, "Who's to blame?" comes up. There used to be a pride about craftsmanship in America and people would love it because they could count on it being built right the first time. Now it's corporations that don't understand what they build calling the shots. All they understand is F'ing wall street and what makes share holders happy. That's what's wrong with things like this. That's why America lost that handbuilt edge our previous generations had.
Steve's contract required him to say baaad-aaaaass 125 per episode.
They beeped the word “Ass” 😂🤣
We have youtube with dozens of really good channels and talented people, way better and way more entertaining than those shows. But it's those tv shows that lead me to those youtube channels and got me hooked with cars.
I know that one fella out in Norfolk lost his business when he finally ran the "production company" off. They were wanting him to cut corners on customers cars "for TV".. one car ended up in a bad accident and they sued the "production company"..
@charlie1832

Dan lost his business ?
I remember years ago seeing a car at a show that was a Monster Garage feature car. It was a total POS because just like with Counting Cars it had to be done within a time that would have made a perfect build impossible. It just had to look good on tv. The guy who owned the car said it took two weeks of additional work beyond when it was shown as complete on the show just to get it to make it more than around the block and for most things to actually work. He said there were places that weren't going to be shown on tv that were unfinished, unpainted or covered in overspray and that it was an electrical nightmare. I'm in no way implying that any shop which gets a tv deal typically does shoddy work but that the projects done for the show can't be done right with the budget and time limitations placed on them. I'm sure they would never dream of delivering that quality work to an actual customer and if they didn't normally do great work they wouldn't have gotten the attention of tv producers. Next thing you know we'll discover a lot of buildings on tv and in movies are actually just a facade.
As so many will tell you, it’s better to do it on your own and struggle for awhile. Then blow up quickly through a company. You’ll make more in the end. If you’ve been a company for 15 years keep being your own brand and your own platform. That’s the beauty of KZread.
I have to say Steve is a completely genuine person. I was there for my birthday and he took a few minutes out of him loading up a couple 50gallon drums to take a picture and talk with me. Really cool great guy.
good to listen stories about shows i grew up watching. I love counting cars.
From what I understand, Fantomworks and Bitchen' Rides basically gave the Producers the option to either film and stay out of the way or don't come. Dan I believe was the one sending the film to the Production Company.

I really liked Fantomworks. He seemed to be a perfectionist, but TV demands kept getting in his way. I also think the "OMG, it HAS to be done by next week!" deadlines that is so hokey on other shows didn't work for him, because I saw vehicles in the shop for nearly a year before they got done. I think he told the production company to GTFO.

It's like everywhere else in America...word. My friends think I'm off for a wild time when I visit friends in Vegas, but at most I probably spend one night in a week at a casino on the strip.
I just need him to stop saying Nevada wrong on his ads
I work in the oil and gas industry, I know guys that worked with the crew on " Black gold" show was fake as hell, cherry picking guys from rigs " you look like a what people think what a roughneck should look like ". Bring them to a single rig just for filming. All the on screen drama was all BS. One guy said he met Brandon after the show was cancelled. story goes Brandon made his roughneck wages on top of 100k tru TV was paying them. Not a bad payday.
Bitchin' Rides is my favorite. They are in Utah and not Vegas but I wonder if they are affected similarly? I wouldn't think so as many of their cars receive car show awards.
Great video, I think this confirms what car guys already knew. All these reality car shows are made for normies, not car guys. I hate them, haven’t watched them in a long time. Go to KZread and find honest content, yea there’s a lot of bullshit car channels in KZread as well to sift through.

Love seeing the custom builds but hate when they add artificial drama.. "Oh no I can't believe this happened"
More of this please
TV shows only build cars up to the point they look good on camera and nothing else, and as long as Joe Average is impressed that's all the TV executives want? Well, at least Pimp My Ride, definitely, 100%, honest and true, put all their money and time into making functional cars as opposed to awful rolling advertisements that definitely didn't have to be pushed into venues because they couldn't even run...
Ah man i was hoping this was gonna be The Count 🙁

Everything for TV or movies is that way. If you ever see some cars from movies or TV shows in person they’re usually pretty rough and much of everything is just for show. They’re selling a story and a show. And it needs to get done quick and cheap. So, things get done to where it’ll tell the story and look good on camera since making something into a high level show car is a lot more work and won’t really look different on the show. But, the actual stuff the shop does for real customers is good so no need to be disappointed there.
You don't know me ed!
About Ike Texas hardtails rick portrayed as a rude boss but Rick Fairless is not anything like the show he is nice as can be
