ABOUT KEPPIE
Hi I'm Keppie. I'm a professional songwriter, and songwriting teacher. I've been teaching song and lyric writing for over 10 years now for some of the best contemporary music colleges in the world- Berklee Online, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music's Open Academy, as well as for the Australian College of the Arts. At other times, I've taught for the Australian Institute of Music, as well as the LA School of Songwriting.
My goal is to help people write better songs! My experience in the classroom, with thousands of students at this point (many going on to find careers and success in music), is that your songwriting, like all things, can get better with meaningful, deliberate practice. My intention is to share the skills, knowledge, information, and ideas that I've gathered with anyone who wants to improve their songwriting.

personally, I think the mark of a talented lyricist is their ability to write something deeply personal and specific in a way that is relatable to listeners and has an adaptable meaning for shifting points of view.

I am Struggling a bit with discerning between "I" and "You" in some of my songs. Both work, but one is the key to successfully 'creating' that amazing Lyric. Thanks for everything you do, so awesome. Cheers from Perth.

I love paradoxically things like in sweet dreams from beyonce she sings about this dream that she does not want to wake up from, but it gets broken with backing vocals that sing “turn the lights on”, if it would be “off”, it would lose the paradoxical nature of dreams, and also sound worse. i feel these little things contribute more than people actively talk about, as i strongly belief the human experience in life is a paradox in of itself.

Great lyrics usually aspire to be great poems. Songwriters need to learn from the best. Listen to the pantheon of themes explored by Bob Dylan or new artists like Joustene Lorenz. Both are brilliant songwriters with an almost infinite scope of interests. As well as the themes outlined in this video, Dylan and Lorenz take risks in their lyric writing as they explore the world. As well as the usual focus on 'love' and relationships, these songwriters explore-crime, conflict, self-actualisation, sacrifice, nature, global warming, extinctions, religion, sex, identity politics, history, time, the universe, outsiders, etc etc EG Joustene kzread.info/dash/bejne/l4yqlq2PlNixmto.html
