    yes, please show as much as possible, we obviously dont need to see unrelated parts of the house so limiting the filming to the theater and rack and clearly telling the client nothing else will be shown.

    The technical side is easy. I talked to Grimani about it last night. He’s totally onboard. We will work on this after ISE. We have a half dozen sizable projects we could show technical details for right now.

    Glad you’re posting here again! I’d love to see this. Also very interested in the design of high end theaters with large displays (like micro-led), especially as large TVs become more in reach but can present some issues with speaker placement.

    We’ve done a few microled systems but they were family room surround systems. Not dedicated theaters. However I know I can’t show those yet. Maybe in a year or so. We have had a few projects where microled was brought up for a private home cinema. Unfortunately they remain an inferior choice in most ways. Their contrast is worse in some ways because of how the LEDs come out of black. It’s not natural and jumps quite a few shades of black/grey. They are perceived as too bright. But really the big problem is sound. None of the current sound options are a replacement for an AT screen with speakers behind it. As such, the sound always had been inferior. We’ve done some show setups and in a few cases abandoned the original plan because the sound was so bad. Other times we just go with it, often folks are impressed anyway, but our own discerning and experienced taste is left totally unsatisfied. It’s a nut I very much want to crack. However as of today, it’s just not there.

    Some people might watch this video and think that the camera is over-exposing Matthew's skin because the ambient light conditions are dark, but no. No, that is how Matthew's skin normally looks. Most people aren't able to look at him directly without sunglasses.

    Can understand the clients concerns, but I guess if you give them review /sign-off off the vids and blur out anything that helps identify the places location or owners it might put them at ease. Would be very interesting to see if you manage to work it out.

    A busy business is the right problem to have. Kudos on that. Maybe owners would be more compliant if you framed it as a means of showcasing your advisory portfolio with written, predefined constraints on privacy and which information is released. Anyway, it would be nice to at least see drawings, equipment and target specs because I often wonder which brands and equipment go into these super theaters, especially when KYD staff state that they've done theaters much more impressive than the Hahn theater -- last year in an interview Yates briefly flashed a drawing on screen that had at least ten of those dual 24" super woofers he uses and I was like c'mon man, show us more!

    Hah yes he has and yeah sorry he can’t. I recently did a theater that had enough bass it caused the sprinkler system to flood the proscenium. We do frame it the way to state and we have offered contracts. The problem is that in many cases our contact with the client is limited or even non-existent. You have to remember, the client gets nothing positive out of it. The family reps job is to prevent anything negative for the family. So often it’s seen as not worth it. We get nowhere. In some cases we even have to sign strict NDAs that prevent us from even asking. But…my goal remains to make it happen. The more work I get, the more chances I’ll have to feature something.

    To be fair, even I didn’t do in my own home theater what we do in these projects. It’s not just knowledge. It’s also cost. The resources needed to make it great often exceed what we mere mortals can justify. So while it can be a helpful inspiration, it can also cause us to see how impossible it is to achieve something of the same level of performance in our own homes. Even room size is an issue.

    I'm here for the engineering that goes into a theater. I don't think you need to show any more of the home even if it has cool integration components and ideas. I'd be happy if you just show blue-prints of the room, goal of performance and what specs of equipment you needed to meet those goals. If we had millions of dollars to afford a nice room we would pay someone like you to build it. Since we have to build on a budget we are here looking to learn from your engineering expertise.

    It's so shitty of the people to not allow you (the creator) of the room to not even shoot inside the room. It's like hiring Picasso to make you a painting but telling him you can't take a picture of it. I think you should charge more to these morons rich entitled folks if they don't allow you to make a video of YOUR work. & if they do then charge less. & no one's asking them to reveal anything outside the room.

  • @PoesAcoustics

    @PoesAcoustics

    I think you have to see it from their perspective. These aren’t normal people. They are very wealthy and often publicly known. Shooting video or pics of their room is an inconvenience they do not want, it can be a security risk to them and their families, and they just don’t care about me in that way. They have very busy lives and having to provide access to their private residence so I can shoot a video and take some pics is not in their interest. If I were in their shoes, I would probably feel the same way. But not everyone feels this way and I’ll work on this.
