The Secret To Making Cool Guitar Inlays With Scrap Wood!

Музыка

One of the things that I was constantly running out of was the pre-made dot inlays for guitar fretboards. Those of you who know me will also know that I usually don’t put inlay on my guitars because I love to confuse bass players anyway I can. One day I realized that I could make my own dots out of the left over bits of exotic lumber that are always laying about. Not only does it work great but it’s a classy way to go. You will be the neatest kid in school if you have a few specialty tools and the patience to make your own inlay from little bits of scrap wood.

Matt, I'm getting into the electric guitar-making business. I know I will be one of the hundreds, maybe thousands, but that is OK. What I want to let you know is that I have carefully researched all the KZread videos by others on guitar making. Your videos are by far and away the best. Why? Your shop techniques are the smartest, most efficient and also produce the best product. You wouldn't believe the unnecessary trouble other luthiers go to ending up with an inferior product. Also, your instruction is the best. You are to the point and you share the best techniques. Keep up the great work! Steve

Wood inlays look very classy cause they dont pop up like some abalone ones that you sometimes feel they are not part of the guitar and add a cheap look to it....they sort of blend. For example i find the lp trapezoids ridiculous looking so in my lp style copy i yanked them out and made rosewood trapezoid plugs(the board was rosewood too). Now the shape of the trapezoids is still implied but it looks much more faint and classy.... Of course for side dots you need something that..glows in the dark...either luminlay dots or if you are a cheapskate like me throw glow in the dark powder in the side hole with some superglue....best of both worlds...you have the classy look in the front and the glow on the sides....

Next time, try $6 worth of Glow Powder and Super Glue...glow in the dark dots (or even starz/sharkys/trapys/rectangles, if you rout them nice, paint the routed cavity 1st and use clear casting polyester medium, instead of superglue)! " Sculpey III" can make cool inlays, too...just do it b4 you put the fretboard on, so it can be baked proper. And if Fender says C&D, just go Kramer on it (chicken beak headstock)..ahahahaha. You know it's your own damn fault! I can't remember which video it was but you had a reverse headstocked doubleneck which was WAY cooler than anything fender make! I'm not surprised the legal team at Fender came down on you! It was just jealously you realise! Great video by the way, definitely an improvement on mother of plastic dots!

Thanks for watching Mark, I really couldn't care any less what Fender thinks hahaha We got lots more double necks coming... they are really frustrating to Chris, he is wiring them now

Fender sent you a cease and desist huh? Be awfully tempting to call your next Leo inspired guitar “The CaD”.

I always hated using someone else's headstock anyway.

"A charming letter from the good people at Fender.. " 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Translation... "they threatened to sue the SHIT out of us". The fact that they have patented a head stock shape is right up there on the scale of ridiculous that Dimarzio patented creme colored humbuckers. They were probably just miffed because you build better instruments!

@@TexasToastGuitars this is super annoying for anyone who doesn't have cool headstock ideas. I'm just gonna pretend I never watched this and wait for my letter someday. I guess that's how you know you made it😂
