Abi, i relate so heavily to the emotions of not being good enough, not knowing my style and my fear of the unknown or the risks that come with working for yourself. I really vibe with your honesty and the transparency. I also am here for the romance! I love that your partner stepped in to guide you into your next steps to ensure you were in alignment with your vision. Legit this week I've been experiencing similar feelings with social media and design comparison or journey comparison. It's hard to realize that we dont need to compare or feel bad, when we don't have context.

Thank you 😊 I second this! You have to know what you want otherwise it's easy for other to push their expectations onto you!
Totally resonate with your argument about limitation. I've been feeling the same about myself lately as a designer. Multimedia was my major, in my arsenal I have expertise with video editing, graphic design, 3D modelling, photography etc. In my line of work, I primarily only use Photoshop and Illustrator for simple things. It honestly feels like I'm not using my full potential and even if I tried to suggest them projects with higher heights, it would be declined because of "time". Most, if not all projects, have to be handed in 2 hours upon it being briefed. I don't even have time to conceptualise, let alone open Blender and start cooking. I genuinely love combining 3D with graphic design, it's work I look back and I'm proud of. As it stands now, I can't say the same with my job.
Hands down you're the best.. MY MENTOR. how you go about presenting is top notch.. 👏👏👏👏

Your videos are definitely inspiring. I switched careers after 13 years into Design (finally) and have a solid sturdy full time job but am not wanting to lose any skills and I want to improve the ones I didn't/don't get to do very much. I landed a graphic design production job - which I am very thankful for - but it is not "design" to me. Your videos definitely want me to keep working at it and using skillshare/briefbox/etc to grow those skills!

Hi Abi - can i ask a quick question? - 99 designs is a website where designers compete against each other to win the brief and the money at the end right? - can you suggest any other sites like that? - as someone with no work out there yet whatsoever, would you recommend this as a way of building a portfolio of work? (sorry im new to this!)
@abiconnick
Жыл бұрын
Hey 👋designbro.com/ is a good one, but you have to have a certain standard of work, they also pay all finalists not just the one that gets chosen! Any work is a great way of building a portfolio, the main thing is that you're getting your practice in!
Funny that you say this - coz I am soooooo new in the design space and I don't feel like I do good enough work or so... But also having such a less following I feel like I have seen a much less engagement when I have had my face out there (meaning like who is she and why should I care about her particularly when she doesn't really have any credibility too). SO i kind of just made the switch to post more of solely design content alone and keep my face out of the page lol. Plus I don't particularly think I have a very happening life to say something everyday on stories haha

Hi, I’m Milo a French content creator about webdesign, I need some advices 😅 I really love your content so much that I want to switch and become graphic designer after 6 years 😂 Your works inspire me a lot, so I will come back to my main topic, I worked so much to create content with my instagram account for 1 year and my blog in 2023. I know I have to work harder and be patient but sincerely these times I want to give up. Do you think I have to be more patient ? I have 300 followers since 2022, it doesn’t grow up, maybe my content is general I don’t know maybe I have to attract a specific group or interest. If by the change you red me I will happy to have your vision. Thanks 😊
@abiconnick
Жыл бұрын
Hey Milo 👋 I'd recommend staying patient, nothing ever good came from giving up! But staying patient doesn't mean doing the same things and expecting different results, if you're not growing as much as you'd like, take a look at your strategy, commit to learning more about marketing, social media, and creating content! Always be trying to improve and become better, if you commit to that, then you'll achieve anything you want! 😊
