    One of the big advantages of stick is that it is literally just as easy to use the right rod as the wrong one. You might try using a smaller rod.

    When I was being taught arc (stick) welding 40+ years ago, both of those welds shown...plus using the wrong (too thick) size rod... would have been given failed grades.

    using 6013 on a thin metal is one heck of a thrill bro, tha ks for sharing your technique as here in our place we hardly see smaller rod, so that 6013 is mostly our option, watching this gives me more hope

    I believe angle of the rod is actually the most notable apart from momentarily allowing it to cool. The shallower angle applies less heat and less chance to burn through the edge.

    The secret to welding thin metal is TIG, using a small diameter tungsten rod, and lower amperes. Most Tig welders also have a pulse + ramp up current control.

    Also a smaller diameter welding rod would help. There is no reason for the weld to be 400 % thicker than the base metal it's like pulling a wheel barrel with a tank.

    If you are burning through it means your welder is turned to high. Use a smaller rod for thin metal if the rod just wants to stick fast. Never weld a bead with tacs (start-stop) when you are stick welding because there is to much risk of contaminating the weld with flux and a sure sign you are a amateur. Also you don’t need a bead that wide for thin metal. Waste of consumables.

    Just about acceptable, not really the right way to weld thinish metal, M.I.G, T.I.G, GAS WELD, or.... just use a SMALLER welding rod! so you do'nt have to stop start, it results in a weeker weld.

    6013 is a sheet metal rod. It's made for that exact purpose, and if your puddle is still light orange you'll get a good tie-in. The only thing I would have done different is weld it down hill lol

    @@brandonstrickland6444 Hi,6013 is a mild steel rutile welding rod, you can get them as thin as 1:6 mill, thats the size for that job, maybe a 2 mill rod.

  • @roberttill3787

    @roberttill3787

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@stormytempest6521 I would go for a 1.6 Brandon maybe does not realise the thickness of the rod is directly related to the thickness of the workpiece. If the rod is over 2.0MM so should the metal be that you are welding. By using such a thick rod, by the time it is molten the amps drawn is enough to blow a hole in the workpiece. A smaller rod and you can weld at a lower amperage.
