2:00 This is super important and I'm so glad you mentioned it! If you try to transcribe Yngwie (or Marty Friedman) note by note you'll see the subdivisions fluctuate sometimes, or the licks start in weird spots like a 16th (or 32nd) note after or before the beat. What I usually do is rearrange and "reinterpret" the licks with tighter timing and try learn them that way. Adding the "feel" and those natural fluctuations is the next step, and what truly makes each player sound unique (I think). But yeah, when I see some of the tabs out there I feel sorry for people who try to learn that stuff the way it's written down haha

MAN , JASON BECKER IS STILL ONE OF THE BEST GUITARIST OF ALL TIME. AN THERE. ARE ALOT OF THESE NEW GUITARIST ON THE INTERNET AN THEY ARE REALLY , REALLY GOOD. BUT DONT HAVE AS MUCH PASSION AN FEELING AN DONT PLAY WITH WITH THE EXPLOSIVE POWER THAT HE HAD AN WHEN HE PLAYS WITH MARTY AN THE SOLOS THEY PLAY ARE CRAZY BUT THEY ARE JUST ONE OF THE BEST GUITARIST WHEN THEY PLAY TOGETHER BUT THE SINGERS ON THE 2 CACOPHONY ALBUMS SUCK BUT THE GUITAR WORK IS CRAZY AS SHIT AN EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE SOME NEW GUITAR TRICKS AN THINGS GUITARIST DO NOW A DAYS LIKE TOSIN ABASSI BUT I JUST HAVENT SEEN ANYONE. PLAY AS GOOD AS BECKER WITH THE SHIT HE DOES CAUSE I REALLY LIKE THE NEO CLASSICAL STUFF THEY PALY TOGETHER BUT THATS MY OPINION CAUSE THERE ARE ALOT OF PROFESSIONAL GUITARIST THAT I STILL LIKE ALOT THAT ARE JUST SO GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO AN THE SONGS THEY WRITE-THAT ARE VERY COOL BUT IF YOU CHECK OUT ALL HIS WORK YOU CAN SEE THAT HE COULD PLAY EVERY STYE AN TO ME IS THE BEST SWEEP PICKER AROUND EVER BUT ITS JUST BAD THAT HE CANT PLAY ANYMORE BUT HE WAS PLAYING THIS SHIT IN 1984 AN KICKED EVERYONES ASS. BUT THESE GUITARIST CAN PLAY BAD ASS SHIT BUT CANT. MATCH UP TO HIM AN THEY NEVER WILL AN, ITS JUST BEEN DONE BEFORE AN IVE LISTENED TO SO MANY SOLO GUITARIST ALBUMS AN THERE ARE SOME AMAZING SONGS AN GUITAR WORK BUT NOW ITS 2023 BUT YOU HAVE TO HEAR THE 2 CACOPHONY ALBUMS WITH MARTY FRIEDMAN WHICH ARE “ SPEED METAL SYMPHONY “ AN HIT WAS RELEASED IN 1987 OR SO AN THEN AN THE 2nd ONE WHICH IS “ GO OFF “ AN THEN THERE IS HIS SOLO ALBUM WHICH IS “PERPETUAL BURN“ THAT I THINK WAS IN 1987/ 1888 AN THERE IS THE DAVID LEE ROTH ALBUM THAT JASON PLAYED ON BUT GOT TO SICK TO O ON TOUR. BUT ITS CALLED “ ALITTLE. ISNT ENOUGH“ AN THEN THERE ARE LIKE 2/3 MORE ALBUMS LIKE “ THE RASPBERRY JAMS “ AN I THINK THE LAST ONE BESIDES “ BOY MEETS WORLD “ WITH SOME OF HIS YOUNGER RECORDINGS WHEN HE WAS 16/17 YEARS OLD BUT ITS CALLED “BLACK BERRY JAMS “ AN THIS HAS RECORDINGS OF SOME OF HIS EARLIER GUITAR TRACKS THAT MADE IT INTO HIS SOLO ALBUMS BUT HE WAS SO GOOD PLAYING CRAZY CLASSICAL GUITAR WITH SOME CRAZY BEAUTIFUL MELODIC SOLOS AN SONGS !!

This is really funny I was noticing this the other day too! I saw JB do this stuff in another video like really, really fast on the lower part 1-3-5-1(octave)-5-3 it sounds like chugga-chugga-chugga. So cool. You can also combine your forward and reverse examples and cycle them it sounds really neat. Also, that is a ridiculously sick axe there.

Kudos to you 💪 But about Yngwie maybe you should watch him more. Many arpeggios he does, where he does the same fret on two strings, he actually jumps fingertip from string to string. Not just tipping finger like most do. He had his theories and skills covered 😎

Good lead phrasing should always be fluid no matter the tempo and time signature. What I'm saying is that accelerando is just as important as crescendo; as is the opposites. Especially when with higher tempo or greater divisions, whichever. Remember, the natural human singing voice is almost always part of good, lead guitar phrases. We don't usually speak or sing like robots for a reason. We speak in odd and even clusters just like we play... Well should. If the written music language were to evolve such that it could actually represent what is actually heard it would be so complex that a person might spend decades deciphering into audio what was played. Good thing we have audio recordings now. 😅

Just wanna clarify something, you often say "we outline an arpeggio". From what I get, when you outline an arpeggio you suggest it by playing some notes but leaving out others. In this case you're playing all the arpeggio notes right ?

  • @justin.hombach
