The Secret Origins of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe - Part 1 of 2
Фильм және анимация
The FIRST and still the ONLY show in which a Sword was used as a conduit in order to channel the power to effect the Hero's transformation against the backdrop of both Castle Greyskull and a remarkable musical soundtrack. Absolutely Brilliant!!!
Each episode starting with Prince Adam introducing himself and stating his mission I found to be smart and fantastic and still consider it to be the best cartoon introduction of all time and quite fitting as I consider He-Man to be the BEST CARTOON OF ALL TIME!!!
Also, I found the unique storylines and moral tidbits at the end of each episode very infleuncial to my personal character development as a child!
Apart from FILMATION this has never been done and I just want to say a big THANK YOU to Lou Scheimer and production crew for caring about what the children viewed on television back then.
As we see, what the children view on television today is a completely different story.

You have no idea how many times I ran around with that plastic sword and pretended to transform into He-Man. Thank you for giving me one of my favorite heroes.
RIP Lou Scheimer...thank you for great memories of popular childhood animated cartoons

He-Man was one of my favorite cartoons growing up in the '80s. And I still enjoy singing along when he changes (as silly as that sounds). Thank you Lou Sheimer and Filmation.

Oh, I used to watch it EVERY DAY after school. I loved it, and still do at 41. I still join him in saying, "I HAVE THE POWER!" when he transforms. :)
He-Man has a special place in my childhood memories because it was the first of the big time 80s cartoons that aired 5 days a week. There will never be an era of cartoons like this again

He-Man was so gay!
Thank you Lou, John, Alan, rest of Voice Actors, Music Composers, Animators, Editors, Directors, Writers, Tech people, Producers for giving me an awesome childhood. I'm in my 40's and recently re-discovered He-Man. I remember 1984-1985 very well... Thank you again.
I wish I could thank all of this staff for having made my childhood a lot sweeter even in a distant country like mine. There has never been anything, anything inappropriate in this cartoon unlike many others I see nowadays.
He-Man is probably my best childhood memory, he was my only true hero. '' I HAVE THE POWER'' ;-)

I know, so sad to hear of his passing, R.I.P. Lou Scheimer, luckily I got to meet him at San Diego Comic-Con 2012 and got an Autograph from him as well
I just bought 2 castle grayskull and snake mountain on Ebay....money is no object when it comes to my nostalgia for 80s toys...thank you to all that worked on this legendary toy line...I did hours of research on he-man...thank you for posting this...
Thank you to Lou Sheimer and Filmation and crew for caring about what went into children's programming back then

RIP Lou Schimer! You gave so many young kids and aspiring artists so many shows, creatures, heroes and fantastic shows to inspire us. Im sad not just of your passing but in the knowledge that today's kid's programing could NEVER move them the way YOU did! Your passing is the END to an era my friend..
Every evening my brother and i used rush from school to watch he man on tv. He man epic theme song and he man voice over actors awesome voice made the show super mega hit.
Rest in peace, Lou. You inspired me to become interested in working with animation.
I use to watch He-Man ftom England 🇬🇧 on week days once a week use to run home from School back in 1983 i was 11 years old then always looked forward to it Great memories GOD bless the production team everyone involved
He-Man wore Ugg boots before they were cool.
thank very much filmation for giving us....he man......thankyou
This is the kind of thing missing from children's TV today. Teaching moral values. If they thought that cartoons were violent a generation ago, how are they not screaming today? Many said this was the "whining decade" of cartoons. I beg to differ. I'm a child of the 80s, & I learned a lot of good lessons from these shows. You want your kids growing up in the South Park or Beavis & Butthead world? That's your choice. I'll show my kids the shows I grew up with, because they taught values.

you do realise those cartoons you mentioned are for adults right that's why they are called adult cartoons they are not for children
Thank goodness Netflix can't touch the 1983-85 Filmation version of He-Man! All animation today seem to have the insane yearning to "go dark" thereby leading highly impressionable kids on the wrong path. Lou Scheimer would surely turn in his grave if he knew what "Nerdflix" did to the latest reprisal of He-man!
He man and she Rae really continues on today by so many people of age both men and women families who love the series
thank you all. he-man was my childhood. i looked forward to it everyday after school.
i wish i could have met you, my fn god damn hero deserves more praise than myself can give you, the nostalgia you have help devolped is truly extrodinary, one of a kind hero. There will never be quite the man you have been to the 80s generation. A god damn legend i refuse to forget as long as i can breath my friend you will be remembered. Lov you who i never met.

Me tooooooooooooo
I remember Filmation's "Shazam/Isis Hour" on Saturday mornings - when He-Man hit the airwaves I was very impressed - and one of the female fans, during my high school years. It was the fantasy and Christian intertext which appealed to me. So glad He-Man and Masters of the Universe has lasted as long as it has had. I have the Power!
My hero HE -MAN still to this day
i still love this cartoon, thanks guys. God bless you.
'Inspector Gadget' also debuted in syndication at the same time with 65 episodes. Yet DIC sent their animation work to different Japanese studios while Lou Scheimer kept all the work in house at Filmation.
I have a religious aunt who forbid my cousin to watch cartoons like these. At least I turned out right he did too. I remember coming home from school just like every kid back in the 80s did, went to a friend's house to watch it.
RIP Lou...

You're romanticizing the past.
The GI Joe cartoon had moral lessons at the end of each episode. So did Chuck Norris and the Karate Kommandos.
I must say that was the cartoon that I followed more about He-Man The Master Of The Universe and I must say that I have a healthy envy the vocal timbre of the voice actor, always speak for themselves English mother tongue.
I just wish they'd bring out a new show with Skeletor in it.
With all the reboots in Hollywood and there never was a right He-Man Movie its insane..... But its important that it has the Filmation Cartoon feel in the right way .... its the only reason why MotU was so sucessful .... if u do it right, this could be a great hollywood movie series with at least 4 episodes.... 1. He-Man vs. Skeletor, 2. He-Man vs. Hordak & Skeletor, 3. He-Man vs. Snake Men, Hordak gone to a different dimention and Skeletor out cold for the moment, 4. He-Man & She-Ra vs. Skeltor & Hordak .... not to mention the Spin offs... Orgins of Skeletor, Grayscull, Evil Lynn, Sorceress....
Gwen Wetzler say's she hired some concept artist's from Disney,"who where they"? "Or have I not got to that yet?"
Good Show Really
They’re talking about how the show back then was trying to show the values of morales to kids........then years later the demoralising of children’s minds appeared in animation...’The Simpsons’

Sir Lou Scheimer, the people of the Philippines are still hoping for He-man and She-ra be back. Please here our request... Thank you and God bless you all...
Thank you filmation
the only show Filmation made that the graphics want so good was Kids Super Power Hour with Shazam. But hey I was a kid. I still like Filmation to this day.
You forgot Thundarr The Barbarian, Flash Gordon, Blackstar,Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends,Space Stars with Space Ghost, The Incredible Hulk, Tarzan & the Super 7, and Shazam.
love you filmation ...
Please note that the Thundercats' Lion-O never used his Sword of Omens to transform himself and thusly does not qualify to be in this category!! On the other hand, however, Thundercats was another great cartoon series of the 1980's but I would still put He-Man above it!!

Best cartoon and toys ever
It's funny how all the people they interview aren't the writers or animators. John K said alot about these days of animation, if you haven't heard it, give a listen.
Thankyou for giving us great great He man.. Love from India...
He mentions there was a first choice for He-Man, not Dolph. Who was this first choice, is it ever revealed?
9:18 I think you kind of missed the mark on a crossover episode with She-Ra when you see Hordak steal Horde primes spaceship and fight over it with Skeletor, and then at the end you have She-Ra and He-Man discuss how to tell somebody when your body's been touched in appropriately. That's kind of a very really loose connection to the main plot of that story lol
Thanks for this.
I still get chills when I hear the opening notes. Can't watch a tiny bit of the intro without watching the whole thing. Such a great show.

M.O.U, Is definitely a series to reboot in an action live film, better than the one with D.Lundgren & Frank Langella. An possibly bring back Thundar, in a reboot MOU sequel
This is a good feature.
MUY BUENO ESTE DOCUMENTAL
i grew up with the toys and the fantastic mini comics attached to it specially the early ones from 82 to 83 marvelously illustrated by Alfredo Alcala, was so desappointed when the animated series came out, with a complete new story and a different visual identity, wasn't bad but it clearly hadn't the same mystical dark atmosphere of the first minicomics, maybe too mature to be adapted
He did. And also King Randor, and numerous characters on the show, and the She-Ra spinoff.
Sir Lou, pls grant the request of the Filipino people here in the Philippines... Let He-man and She-ra be back on TV with new great episodes and characters...
He looks like Harry Kalas. RIP.
Its funny how the directors hair looks likes He-man's hair cut
Hmmm. No mention of the mini-comics that came with the figures starting in 1981, which the show writers both ignored and drew from to create the series.

Popactor, the cartoon producers looked at the mini-comics while developing the show, and took some core concepts from it, such as Skeletor forever trying to seize Castle Grayskull. Obviously the Mattel toys came first from a production standpoint.
We need to seehe man back on TV but the same voices with new amazing history like back in the days
what's a 're run? its brand new.
7:06 Sounds like he's referring to the quasi-infamous "Deception Of A Generation" Proaganda Film. :P
No super heroes....I mean unless you count the ENTIRE JUSTICE LEAUGE in the several Super Friends series' that ran from 73' through the early 80's, as well as the Batman with Robin the Boy Wonder that ran from the 68-77 not to mention the late 70's Fantastic Four and Johnny Quest ran in re-runs the 70's and up to the mid 80's and don't forget about Battle of the Planets! Plus ton's of early anime - the 70's was FULL of action oriented 'toons. don't get me wrong, He-Man was awesome!
thats funny the anold line becaus heman was going to be conan figures but mattel did not want to make toys based on a r rated movie so they named him heman instead
I like the television show of He-Man back in the seventies I would love to see him take on Superman are doomsday have doomsday try to get into Castle Grayskull or darkside to bring in supervillains He-Man need to be tested and the Incredible Hulk can He-Man defeat them

He-Man was the 80s not 70s
Thundercats... they weren't human, and the sword made the transformation, not the person. That is what makes it different. Science and Sorcery in a harmonius balance.
Griff, i agree She-ra is hot, i always vouch for skeletor to win, like him as well. Cool show when i was young, don,t make them like they use to.
The day He-Man cried :(
i have still got all my toys and still collecting
He-man el heroe mas grande de todos los tiempos.
I think that, for a cartoon character, Prince Adam, is quite hot! I would do ALMOST anything for a Prince Adam action figure!

I want the original He-man from FILMATION... I'm already 40 years old and still dreaming that FILMATIONS will produce new episodes of He-man and She-ra... Hoping this time that Teela will be having a power from Grayskull and Glimmer's power will be immortal... But the best Rebellion I really likes are Fluterrina, Perfuma and Castaspela... I'm hoping also that Amber, Storm and Delilah of John Blackstar will be added to She-ra and Mara, Clone and The Trobbits will be added to He-man...
In reference to the video description, what about Lion-O?
Superman, Batman, Captain Marvel or cast of Star Trek - cue to obscure cartoons sans Ghostbusters. Hilarity ensues.
I love this cartoon but why is there nothing of how they devised the characters.

Nice Insights.... 'But' many of the headlines from journals and newspapers mention the original connection between he-man and Mattel, but the interviews seem to skip over this primal link... it's mentioned but not developed - The show was based and suggested if not 'commissioned' by Mattel... ... ...of course due to the pro-social values incorporated i am a muscular blonde super hero fighting blue skeleton faced villains!
