Thank you for showing part of our history by featuring the Dantata family. West African since the time of Mansa Musa and Timbuktu where hard working industrious people. In history of West Africa we were taught about the Trans Sahara trade this was way before trans Atlantic slave trade. Thank you once again

Aliko Dangote was raised by his grandfather Sanusi Dantata having lost his dad at a very young age. In the colonial times, the export of cash crops like groundnut to Europe was the mainstay of Nigeria's economy and the Dantata family was dominant in this trade. Dangote left the family business upon graduation from university in 1978 with a loan of 500 thousand Naira in 1978 from his grand father which was equivalent to about 600 thousand dollars at the time. Dangote began his business by importing and distributing goods like sugar, flour and cement and he eventually transformed into manufacturing of many of the items he used to import. He became a billionaire when he built a network of cement factories in 10 African countries. He has had virtual monopoly in commodities like cement in Nigeria for years. Dangote is twice divorced. He has 3 daughters and no son. The Dantata family headed by 92 year old Aminu Dantata is still worth billions of dollars today

Mr Dangote looks like one or some of his great grandparents were Arab or Indian. We have relatives who hv Black mother/Sudanese Arab mix who look like Dangote nd members of his fam they look alike. Nice to know history about The Dangote

@@tombimashri8149Dangote is purely Hausa, we are as old as the world is even before the Arabs. We are only Muslims today because of cross border trades in the ancient times and had no history of any interracial marriages with Arabs or Sudan. We are purely blacks. So, chill!

Probably the best example of 'old money' in Africa? Solving local problems, and getting rich from within their OWN environment. No false supremacy, or thieving, involved. Well done to them. Hope they discard the international fig leaf of 'charity', and begin to wake fellow Africans to building beauty and excellence into their communities, too. Beautiful family taking common sense across marriage lines in Africa. No small job.
