Finland was planned to become a economic satellite to Imperial Germany alongside with the rest of the baltics. Brest-Litovsk was a hell of a treaty. Also the finnish right wing parties at the time were not okay with a truly independent self government (read: they were not okay with handing democratic power to workers and farmers) outside of the sphere of great powers and the initial finnish leader is a sort of relic of that time.

@@wow9279 yes, after looking at it again, wolfgang was the Hereditary Prince of Finland, so would have been next in line after frederick. it also seems like while frederick renounced his claim to the throne of finland, some monarchist didn´t think that counted wolfgang, and thus continued to claim him to be legitimate.

Wolfgang Von Hasse was the son of Frederick Charles and primary heir to the title. Many monarchists believed that since Frederick Charles declined the title, that would make Wolfgang von Hesse the rightful claimant for it. But shortly after the war, the Finnish parliament scrapped the idea for establishing monarchy in the country so it never ended up happening.

Makes no sense, diplomatic annexation is a bit different than forceful occupation.

Frederick Charles who used to be the king of Finland died at the end of may 1940 whilst HOI4 starts at 1st of january 1936 (in most cases), but because you need to research construction 4 which is proposed to be researched at 1941 Frederick Charles obviously dies. I wish paradox made something like "if you'll research construction 4 before summer of 1940 you'll have Fredrick Charles as your king, but he'll die and will be replaced by Wolfgang pretty soon tho", but they didn't unfortunately.

Not exactly. Frederick Charles was never the king of Finland, he was offered the title but declined after the Germans lost WW1. Wolfgang von Hasse was the son of Frederick Charles. Many monarchists claimed that since Frederick Charles refused the title that would mean Wolfgang von Hasse was the rightful claimant for it. Even decades after the idea for a monarchist Finland was scrapped, Wolfgang von Hasses supporters were pushing for him. So this secret path is like an easter egg in to finnish history, but in reality Finland was never a monarchy and Frederick Charles never even step a foot inside Finnish land.

this is actually a reference to finland almost electing a german king after ww1 when the whites won the civil war, he was already chosen (friedrich karl 1) but finland instead became a republic after germany fell in ww1

In my second try at Finland in this DLC, I had 42 factories by the time the Soviets attacked. Not enough of them were mills though, but I did have lv 6 forts all across my defensive line.

No one crosses the finnish line (guarding the ports) and Uralic Brothers United (after capping the Soviets - and getting the required puppets - justified on Hungary and defeated the Axis alongside the Allies. You used to be able to stack Long range support companies with Engineers which both buffs your units defense and has a better recon stat than any other support. IDK if its still in effect since I haven't player for a while after getting almost all finland and puppet achievements.

@chaoticflorius that is something you can hardly change but I achieve 45 working civ with that I can build fortresses so I need less man to guard the frontlines. I can use hospital companies to get back the lost manpower. and ask for guns and other stuff. It is important to build a little fleet so you can prevent the naval invasion to some extent. You can ask for convoys.
