Ciano's comments of the situation are really interesting ! Especially, since he had some insight of those commanding the the war. PLEASE MAKE THIS A SERIES, its super interesting knowing how the people at the time felt about the developing events in europe and abroad.

Interesting to see that Italian leadership could see right through Germany's intentions yet still be dragged into the war anyway.

It was partially due to the Italians believing they would win by siding with the Germans. But also a sense of honour, since Mussolini thought that Italy would lose all of her honour if she betrayed her allies again (refering to WW1)

After the Rome Protocols weren't renewed, and it became obvious Austria would be Anchlussed + making most of the world not friendly with them after the Ethiopian invasion they really didn't have any friends or potential allies apart from Germany.

I m impressed how well he predicted what will happen with Poland if war break out.

Its interesting that most people who dealt with Mussolini and his close circle often portrays him in a way that appears that Mussolini suffered from chronic depression or something close to that. If that was true, its kinda explain to a degree a few decisions taken by him

he suffered for a sense of inferiority to Hitler . He had very difficult to accept the Nazi power (in his eyes prestige ) was greater than his when he was the teacher and Hitler the student .

Italian here…it is well known among Italian fascist historíanos that Ciano’s diaries have to be taken with a pinch of salt, as some sections have been edited post-mortem to appear “acceptable”

I didn't expect to see so much focus on Croatia and Maček being mentioned. Maček is quite an interesting figure. Did you know that when he was offered to lead a fascist Croatia he refused? He was the most logical choice because he was a leader of the largest party calling for Croatian independence, the Ustaše led by Ante Pavelić by contrast were a terrorist organization acting from abroad, Italy in fact, which made Hitler fear would move Croatia too close to Italy. Did you consider making a video on Maček?

Source? From what I understood the majority of Japense civilians saw the USA as just yet more white colnisers (mostly due to their annexation of Hawaii and occupation the Philipines) added to the USA's trade embargo on Japan prior to the war many Japanese saw pearl harboud as entirely justified.

That's what they thought they were doing when they joined the war. France was falling and Mussolini wanted "a few thousand dead men to present himself as a man who fought". What he didn't consider is that Britain would have not surrendered after the fall of France

I think the world will forever "lol" at him and his menagerie for generations to come. His legacy was for nothing, and it still shows. So you can still sit there and cope over how him, his allies had disastrously lost the war, and gained nothing from it, aside from a wake of a country in ruins, and piles of bodies.

Italians had no national identity, they were to clanish, not cowards just nothing on a national level to fight for. Il Duce didn't help either. Never understood why he wasn't condemned for using gas on the Ethiopians long after it was considered a war crime.
