Did you SOLVE the reference from the intro of this video? I Want to give a huge shoutout to Lenny and gang at Death & Taxes and Cloze from Nihilum for giving us the inside scoop on this tale long consigned to history. Also big love to Hurricane for letting me use his footage and sending me HQ versions for the edit, what a hero. If you enjoyed this video, consider taking a look at our website preachgaming.com. We have some behind the scenes content on there for premium supporters but more importantly videos like this just aren't possible without the support of our amazing community. Even $1 makes all the difference. There's no shortage of crazy stories like this one from back in the day that have been lost to the sands of time, so make sure to tune in next time for when it gets real weird in TBC

Playing WoW during these first formative years was truly something special. I don't think a game could recreate what we felt during these first couple years.
@hifive5067

absolutely true, and I contribute this to the fact taht back then we did not have very good centralized knowledgebase websites (like wowhead is now) and addons were not as sophisticated. There's no chance we will ever get the same feeling playing mmo, as whe n WoW was in its virgin years, in vanilla
@Wheeljack678

You're right. It really had the vibe of an exciting, virtual world, and not "just" a game and a gameworld. Everything you did was something brand new. That still is technically the case for new MMOs as well, but in a way - many have done it before, in World of Warcraft. Playing the game in its early days was (sort of) like playing the old adventure games from Sierra back in the 90's with internet and no walkthrough an alt/tab away. Which I think really helped cement the feeling of discovery and excitement.

I think even if a game ever tried and successfully became like this, the people from our generation wouldn't have that same feeling we had 17 years ago. Being that age and that mindset was so amazing atleast for me.
Mike, Chris and everyone else involved. This video is is amazing, the format and storytelling was spot on. I'm really looking forward to the next part. Also I'm so glad to see you embrace the grim darkness of the 41st millennium

It's such a small footnote. But the lengths Vodka had to go to in order to kill twin emperors should have given them the hint that it was impossible. Iirc vodka was accused of cheating because they ran 5 tanks 35 healers and killed it over hours. My understanding is the twin emperors are why enrage timers were added to the game. Vodka was an amazing guild and its cool that Landsoul has left a footprint of them behind

Hands down one of my favorite videos you’ve ever done! Thank you for this, I truly enjoyed it.
This reminded me about how I used to see a female tauren warrior named Edna in Might in Org all the time with Quel'sarrar, and how when she got Thunderfury I had to whisper them and congratulate them. Vicarious living indeed, it blew my mind just seeing KTZ's loot pool and talking about ilevels and base DPS of the weapons with my biology classmates. Different times, man

Great video Preach & team! Fantastic production! Keep them coming
Awesome video. As someone who was around back then caught up in following the race, this brough back so many memories. Can't wait for some TBC stuff!
Insane this came out today, I just randomly decided to listen to the other Legacy of videos at work earlier. Thanks for the new one Mike.
That was awesome, love those type of videos and very well presented. Can't wait for the next one!
So happy you're doing this. There's so much newer players don't know about the legacy of raiding in WoW and some of these stories are going to absolutely crazy
This video was freaking amazing!!! I have goosebumps and can't wait for the follow up. Massive shoutout to everyone involved. Soo good!!! 🌟🌟🌟
Preach, i always loved these wow history video. Looking forward to hopefully more!
This was so well done and nostalgic! Thanks Preach, wonderful video!
Loved this series. Cant wait to see more. Think it was amazing you were able to chat with the some of the old D&T members. I remember spamming F5 for any scrap of info you could find about how the guilds were doing.
This was such a good video, so well done! I cannot wait for the next video!
Love this idea for a series, Preach! Had no idea about this. Can't believe what happened.
Great video and even better Unsolved Mysteries beging clip! Loved it all!
I don't really comment on KZread videos, but this one was really freakin good. I enjoyed learning and hearing about it all and I'm glad you and the team are back on these

Such an awesome video once again. The Preach vanilla stuff just hits different. Amazing content!
Interesting to hear the perspective and nuances of WoW's RWF from someone who was involved or there at the time. This will make a classic documentary for RWF games in general. Lot of WoW nuances and jargon but I do appreciate you simplifying it to laymen terms. Excited for the next part.
That was amazing to watch I’m looking forward to more behind the scenes stuff for raids in bc :)

Amazing Video! I love these legacy type Videos.
Total injustice for D&T, have to feel horrible for them. I'd be upset as Nihilum too, honestly; it cheapens what could've been the most legendary achievement in WoW's history. Sort of poetic & appropriate for Blizzard to fumble that moment with a bug.

Really great to see this! Thank you. I was playing at this time but as you said it was hard to follow this high end stuff. I’m not even sure I knew high level raids were even happening because also as you said there was so much other content that I was keeping myself busy with
I remember watching that D & T Sapphiron video and to this day, "Cold as Ice" still plays in my head whenever I go visit that boss.
This is great. What a great way to tribute the community of this game. Blood sweat and nerd tears. Thanks for solidifying so many hazy memories
8:56 I'm proud to say I am part of that 2%. We managed to down 4 bosses in naxx. we got the instructor, Anoob as we called him, Grand Widow Faerlina and Maexxna. I don't remember we killed any other, I dont think we did, but I'm proud of what we achieved, we were a semi-casual guild that tried going a bit hardcore towards the end of vanilla.

Same thing! Was on US-Hyjal during that time and we made it to Patchwerk which was our guild breaker. Guild broke up after many squabbles and fights around Patchwerk. I ended up stopping and returning during TBC and haven't stopped since. Vanilla to the end of TBC was a magical time for me of exploration, the unknown, and just having fun. Wotlk, while I loved it, was the immediate change I saw of something different...META rotations and clear as fast as possible. However, still love the game!

Same, our guild cleared a good chunk of naxxramas. We ended up getting stuck on Thaddius though and gave up before we were able to get to 4 horseman.

Great video. Thanks very much
Love the dive into history!
As someone who never saw the inside of anywhere beyond Onyxia's Lair and Molten Core, I most definitely am not in that 2%. But I remember well the excitement of following things via forums and looking forward to videos being released. This bit of history brought memories flooding back of those days. It's hard to overstate how big an impact WoW had on us gamers back then
Fantastic video!
im really impressed how much info Prech dug up from almost 20 years ago
Thats just an Awesome video overall. Thanks.
Cracking video!
Naxx was a glorious time to be a raider back then. We only ever cleared up to Sapphiron, then TBC launched - but you mentioning guilds snatching every tank on the server it was REAL. We went into naxx with about 6 tanks in our guild, 4 really... we ended up at 4HM with about 13 ready to go tanks lmao. We unintentionally destroyed quite a few guilds and even snatched up 2 thunderfuries in the process which was huge because our server only had about 4 of them. My favorite naxx memory though? Our guild leader getting pissed off because the WoW South Park episode came out and over half our raid were just watching that instead and wiping on trash repeatedly lmao
Thank you fpr doing this. I started during this push and was invested. Didn't know anyone personally but definitely was in awe of those that wore the death n taxes guild tag. Keep up these vids. And do you think it was better bacl in the day for world firsts, or now.. or do u think there should be a mix.
There's such a huge difference between the mysterious legendary guilds in vanilla like Death & Taxes and current top guilds.. no streaming, no interviews, no KZread channels, no armory.. just a guild name and names of some of the best players.. nobody knew anything about them..
A new Legacy video after all this time?! Let's gooooo
Keep up the amazing content!
What an enjoyable series! Welcome back to the feed fella

Excellent vid. I didn't know much about raiding then, I just derped around with friends. Everyone knew death and taxes though. When you listed guilds near the start and didn't have them in the list, that had me thinking... were they not as good as I remember? or is he setting them up for a reveal later? lol. Well done.

Great vid, would love to see this same format for the BC raids! i started wow at the very end of vanilla, god i miss the BC worlk days, havent played since the end of cata. I remember clearing 25man icc heroic with my arcane mage, great memories
