An internet search will pull up pictures and descriptions of what a tropical strap is.

I just recently watched Interstellar again, and now that I'm into watches, I instantly recognized this watch, I need a murph now, lol

"theres no way a watch second hand can move back and forth without special effects" Trust me, there are plenty of ways. They just require effort on the manufacturer's part.

Zenith: "Hold my beer"

After watching this short I immediately looked for an in-stock unit and got one, this movie means so much to me, it's my favorite movie of all time and the happenstance of a new Nolan movie coming out and just very very recently coming into the watch hobby (only 2-3 months in) I had to get one. 38mm Khaki Murph is now my 2nd watch after my Seiko Speedtimer, I am so inlove with this piece, if anything the 38mm one is more true to the movie watch because it doesn't have the morse code on the seconds hand, and the fact that I love the aesthetic of the watch too (I'm a sucker for clean arabic numeral dials), win win and then some. I love it so much, every time I look at it, butterflies in my stomach.

38 mm is amazing. But it should have the morse code on it.

There is no a morse code on the watch in the movie...

I have the 42 mm and it’s by far the most fun to wear watch I own. It’s hard to explain but there is some genuine attractiveness in the simplicity of the watch. I just can’t stop looking at it

Just recently got my hamilton murph 38mm, i love this movie, also the watch.

I would have made a big version just like the One Ring in LOtR where they made a giant version for close-up scenes

Actually I have an old watch when you try to change time second hand also stars to rotate in same direction as crown 😂😂 it always reminds of this scene 😂

As a long time watch collector, it was lovely to see Hamilton in this movie. They make great value watches for anyone looking for a good entry level Swiss made watch, although the brand is American.

So, in fact, it was a special effect.

It's a beautiful watch. It's all you need.

This is what is happening right now with my 2006 swatch irony. The second hand never moved back and forth but now it’s starting to do it but I can fix it my self but I’m just to lazy to push the button. It’s a chronograph by the way.

I fell for all the hype and saw the movie... Walked out of the theater afterwards wishing I hadn't bothered.

Typical case of term confusion. What you’ve just described is a special effect, what you meant was probably a visual effect or more accurately CGI. But if stuff like this is done on set, it’s a special effect

Wouldn’t it have been easier to just video record the hand in motion then reverse the footage back and forth with a dvd controller?

I got the watch without knowing it was used in that movie.

Withings watches use motors, it could do this for a long time now.

Another secret: in the movie, it’s actually binary and not Morse code, but i guess spelling eureka in binary is a little long for the second hand.

i would have used a bloodpressure cuff and put the face of the watch on the gauge of the bloodpressure cuff..be much cheaper and would move the needle back and forth by squeezing the arm cuff 😁✌
