One of the things about the gallop style of freestyle is the uneven cadence of the arm stroke. The breathing side arm stays extended just a bit for a slight pause, then when you start the pull, the recover arm is a quick pull. This results in the undulation that adds to the 'drive' forward and you are actually submerged a bit which reduces the drag, part from surface tension and part from reducing the bow wave. All of the male swimmers do this. Katie Ledecky and Summer Macintosh both swim this way. Ariarne Titmus swims an even cadence and breathes on a 2, 2, 3 or 4 beat arm stroke count. To date, no one has done an in depth study/explanation of the gallop style of freestyle.

Many people think Pan is only fast because he is dopped up and filled to the brim with steroids, which is not true. He has one of the best 100 freestyle techniques in the world, efficient with fast breaths, on top of that is a pretty big dude at 6’3 with a wingspan larger than that at 6’5, comparable to Micheal Phelps’ 6’4 height and uncharacteristically large 6’7 behemoth of a wingspan. Maybe some nations getting jealous of China’s rapid progress in the sport..

@@fredlar9421 a pretty controversial opinion but I don’t think anyone is clean, but it certainly isn’t individuals who hard dope like the west portrays it as. At the top level, one of the only ways to make time cuts is to dope, and they will dope with as much as they can get away with…I just feel as though the Olympics and many competitions have become to a point where there is only one goal: beat the competition. That’s a fair goal, but it should also be pushing the competition whilst the competition pushes you, so everyone can get better, the west really has swept politics into the Olympics, wanting certain countries out and slandering others, especially those with social/political ideas that don’t aline with the us

Yeah but he's also swims for and trains in a country which has been undoubtedly running a nationwide doping program for many years and has no intention of stopping. Take your head out of the sand peeps. Every Comunist country has done this in history. Ask me how I know...

No doubt he works hard. He has talent for sure. But he is also FORCED like EVERY other Chinese athlete, to participate in the national doping program. No other country has been consistently caught out at the amouny of swimmers and frequency of positive results as China since East Germany in the 80's. Wake up sleepwalkers. The sings are clear.
