The SEAHAWKS absolutely NAILED this offseason! (Where will it rank among John Schneider's BEST?!)

Спорт

John Schneider is in his 15th season as general manager of the Seattle Seahawks, and this year he added VP of Football Operations to his title after the departure of legendary head coach Pete Carroll.
Schneider has had some good strategic offseasons, some admittedly bad ones, but also many GREAT ones.
Where does this offseason - his first without Carroll by his side - fit on his resume? While it is certainly too soon to tell, we can get an idea of where it MIGHT slot in by RANKING HIS BEST-EVER OFFSEASONS!
Tune in, give it a listen, and then YOU tell ME where you think I got it right or wrong - and chip in with YOUR rankings.... and do you think 2024 has a shot to make the list in a few years?

In 2011, due to the lockout, they signed Vikings offensive coordinator Bevell, quarterback T-Jack, and wide receiver Sydney Rice. The lockout, which lasted from early March to late July, left teams with little time to make adjustments, and the Seahawks had gaps in those three positions. They chose these signings based on familiarity.

Seeing Kam tower over Lawyer Milloy at his first Training Camp was something to behold.

Great show Dan! It's 10, 11, 12 and 13 in order for me. I just think everything fell right for them. The free agent signing of Marshawn Lynch is the big one for me. He was able to put that offense on his back during the years and games that it would stall out. Just a suggestion... I think it would be cool and insightful for you to consider doing a deep dive on those years after that great run that things went so sideways with drafting and free agency. I'm not sure we could learn anything more with that exercise but it would be fun to try. In any event I'm glad things have worked out these last few years. I'm hoping and praying it's the beginning of a long successful relationship between Mike and John and the team they are building together. You really do a great job Dan! Please keep doing your thing and I will keep watching.

Yep #3 got a lot of credit for Marshawn and the LOB. A guy I lifted with knew Pete from his college FB years. He said Pete brought a lot of inside college info with him but that ran low in later years. No real idea but we drafted some elite sleepers for sure.

@@billytheweaselpretty revisionist. Lynch and a lot of the LOB were here before wilson. Sure felt like the team got a lot better with #3 than they were with the qbs before him.

@@billytheweaselwho do you think carried the team from 2015-2020 when Lynch leaves, 2016 when earl and Kam start getting injured and then leave/retire then sherman gets injured and leaves, 2018, bennett leaves 2018, Avril retires 2017?

@@iron_bison Superbowl was 2014. And 2015/2016 was the beginning of the exposure I mentioned and subsequent decline. Marshawn and LOB deserve respect and recognition IMHO.

Seeing the identity of the offense and defense created in 2010 for me seals the deal. Still miss Kam.

Yup, 2010 did get two "Identity" players for the Hawks, one on each side of the ball. Browner was also an identity player, IMO, during his peak years. That pick-6 against Eli and the Giants for Browner was one moment the team announced, "These are not your father's Seahawks" and then the win over Baltimore the same season, matching the Ravens' physicality.

@@JM-if1mo Absolutely, Browner was a criminal. My favorite Browner highlight is the one where he takes out 7 players on, IIRC, a punt return play. Absolutely, the other team would agree that was criminal. It may have been against Carolina.

Great episode! I mostly agree with your rankings overall. You could go with any of the '10, '11, '12 years in any order as the "best" offseason. I'd go with 10, 12, 11, but it's super close. I'd say the 2023-24 offseason is above the 2013 offseason. The Hawks don't get to two SBs without ALL of the 10-13 offseasons. It just sucks that they had such poor offseasons 2014 and after, until finally changing their draft approach a couple years ago.

At least they changed though, right. Feels like John is back on track hopefully instead of thinking we're just one more player away.

Cool video and your rankings are probably right. I know hope springs eternal but the only part i disagree with is hoping the late OL picks matter moving forward. I don't see how laumea, jerrell are different than forsythe, jamarco jones, etc. They might stick but its hard to see them as more than backups.

It may require another year or two to fully evaluate, but does '22 or '23 jump over '13 in the rankings? '22 especially had the fleecing of Denver in the trade, bringing back Geno, and a very solid draft.

The '22 draft is awesome. Hopefully Seattle makes some noise with those picks before contracts run out. The other years set us up big time. Will '22 be the start of something great this year or next? Hard to say like those years when everything started.

Christine Michael? Learning disabilities, IMO. Couldn't function as a 3rd down back or on passing downs. If Michael was on the field, opposing D knew it was most likely a run. Michael with the rock in his hands was pretty good though.
