The fans know their characters best. I agree: I understand why Ms. Anderson didn't want to come back. It was a complete slap in the face to the chemistry between DD and GA. Grrrr! Would love to see someone by the rights and create an accurate, appropriate, and proper storyline closure to honor them.

scully is rightfully called a feminist icon. but like a lot of fictional feminist icons, she's also very much a product of her time. and that's not always a bad thing but it's someone who only just finished binging the show recently, i was honestly floored by how many times scully is kidnapped, medically raped (!), or otherwise made to suffer in specifically gendered ways. mulder's trauma is usually existential and more to do with his quest(tm) than anything directly related to him as a person (note how his quest literally objectifies samantha, as well). meanwhile, scully's trauma almost always centers around her role as a daughter or a mother. and that's not even touching on the ooc dialogue about "letting william go" but chris carter had her end season 11 with. i love scully and i love the x-files but i don't exactly blame gillian for not wanting to come back. i do we think we need at least one more movie to give the characters some kind of happy ending, but scully made her mark and i just don't want to see her continue to be dragged through the mud by chris carter.

What CC did with Scully this past season was like spitting in the face of thousands of fans, who for 25 years accompanied our beloved agents. For 18 years, fans have asked and dreamed of Mulder and Scully's reunion with their beloved son Willlian. But what CC does, rapes Scully and still has the nerve to say no, she was impregnated with alien science. Then, to justify that William is the son of the Cancerous, he invents an unscrupulous, manipulative and insensitive character. After that, CC ends once more without giving anything that fans have always asked for. I've never hated anyone so much with I'm hating CC. Whoever is a fan of Mulder and Scully knows what I'm talking about and if we think about it at least a little, we'll see why GA does not want to come back

Agree 100% he has raped the fans too, he knows how much we love them and gives the fans a cheapened story. That is why I love stand alone so much better and they at least give us Scully and Mulder together

cicero jose He did basically make it so Scully was raped in season 7. Whether it was natural, which if you watch the episode it probably was, or with what's essentially a turkey baster, he made William, Mulder and Scully's miracle, a child of rape and not theirs at all. It's sickening. I don't care that she's pregnant again. He ruined everything from En Ami onward.

@@LilyRose8959 Exactly what I think. I am infinitely sad and offended by all that CC Son of a bitch did. Our beloved agents and we fans deserve something better than this shit written by CC. I can not watch any episode of this series that I have loved so much, but that now only brings me disappointment and suffering.

It is especially stupid because with Gillian Anderson leaving, he could have continued the show with William and Fox continuing the legacy. Now instead they will have to find some female Doggett to continue the show. Whereas I would have happily watched a season 12 with Will and Fox solving mysteries

Scully is a brilliant and iconic character, who unfortunately suffered at the hands of male writers. Aside from all the issues other commenters have mentioned (abduction, medical rape, infertility), try rewatching milagro and tell me it doesn’t feel totally predatory and invasive and make gaze horrible. there are lines where she is flattered and aroused by the attention of the stalker writing sex fantasies about her and Mulder even questions her on it. A woman, especially an FBI agent who knows all about male depravity and has cut up the corpses of sexual assault victims, would never ever respond the way she was written in that episode. I cannot watch it anymore.

So Chris Carter has not heard about Scully effect. That's interesting. I think this shows that he stays miles away from our reality, because how could he as a show creator miss that? I hate to speak in that way about CC, he made so much for the show, but in the end he certainly went a wrong way.

@@user-bj2lu9qt3o Whitewash? Scully might not have been written as equal, especially initially, but baby Gillian Anderson took over that screen and that show. SHE became the main reason to watch for so many people. Scully became bigger that her origins, bigger than anything they wrote for her (and some of the dudes on the show have never quite forgiven her for it).

It is so wonderful to hear from some of the women on and behind the scenes of this show. It must have been SO difficult for Gillian, as the only full-time female character on the show, and every other woman working on this show during its initial run. You can tell what a boy's club it was. The only thing missing from this inspiring narrative is the voices of DD and CC actually standing up for Gillian's right to equal pay after working with her for HOW many years??? It would have been really nice to hear from both about hiring more women to write, direct and put together the revival too. But no....just....crickets. (And any one of those women writers would have done a better job than CC who has been ruining this show with egotistical, tone-deaf glee since it's final few seasons).

Felicidades agente Scully.

I worry a bit about her voice. It's very raw. That's not normal. The last time I heard a change like that was with a Dutch singer. He had cancer. I can only HOPE there's nothing wrong with her.

You think she just made it up? People have been talking about the Scully Effect for years. Young and teenage girls in the 1990s weren't watching "Cagney and Lacey," my guy. And I never even heard of "Police Woman." Scully as a charcter was groundbreaking -- deal with it.
