This song always takes me back to 2009. When I was 12 my dad came home one day and told me my brother had passed away, I’ve never been so devastated and felt pain like that day. I remember spending the night in bed sobbing and feeling so broken. I didn’t have a phone or a tv in my room but I did have a little radio that I would keep under my pillow so I could listen to music quietly each night, but I hadn’t much felt like listening that day/night. But eventually I turned it on and lay there listening and this song came on and it crashed over me like a wave, I’ve never felt such a raw embracing connection to music like that in my life. It was a raw, sad chill that it gave me but it was a magic moment that made me understand the power of music. I then got up and rewrote the song how I’d just heard it in my mind and what it now meant to me. “His best days now are some of my worst He’s found a place where he can be at rest While I’m wide awake he’s no trouble sleeping When a heart breaks it don’t break even” Meaning that he’d now gone to heaven and is at peace whilst I’m still here missing him with my broken heart 💔 so even tho this is a break up song where Danny sings about ‘she’, to me this song will always take me back to that sad night in 2009 and be about losing ‘he’.

3:11 the slow walk back is felt deeply from adolescence to coming of age years . The song spoke volumes of vibes before we even got to feel and know the lyrics fully. It grew as we did and is a true example of happy grief. Cause it’s a joy to sing and melodize once you hear those guitar strings through your ear.

Now, I'm seeing a few people talking about the line "Just praying to a God that I don't believe in." For some reason, a few people dislike that line and don't see the meaning of it. For me, that line makes perfect sense. I've tried it myself. Let me try to explain: When you're an atheist, or simply don't believe in God, you don't pray since you know it doesn't work. You believe in science and evidence, not something that has no evidence at all and seems way too unrealistic. Of course there's different kinds of atheism, but this is the one I have. Now, that line shows how desperate he is. Getting hurt over love is so powerful that it's even worse than physical pain. You're crying your eyes out and you feel like a useless pile of dirt that no one cares about. You're completely out of hope and you know nothing is gonna change, it's over. But deep down you have one tiny bit of hope left that everything will be okay. That last spark of hope... you use it to pray. You try it out, because you feel like there is nothing else you can do. It's the last thing you can do. It's your last chance of getting better. I've done it myself before, since I've been in this situation. I sat down on the floor, folded my hands and whispered whilst sobbing something along the lines of: "God, please... if you are real, help me. I can't do this anymore. I don't want to love him. Make the pain go away. I don't care how. He doesn't love me back, and it's all my fault. I fucked up, and this is how I have to pay for my mistakes. He loved me at one point, but I ruined it. I'm never going to kiss him. I'm never going to hear him say 'I love you' to me. Never. I don't want to feel anymore. I don't want to love ever again. I have no hope left. God, you're my only hope. I don't believe in you, but I don't know what else I can do. Just save me from this nightmare..." ... I'm still in pain.

Agreed. When my bc broke up with me, I was so devastated that I thought that any wishful thinking might help. While dealing with this breakup, I heard this song play...I was driving, but had to stop on the side if the road because the lyrics resonated with me so much that I cried. I'm still not over him.

Absolute Nostalgia. First song that ever played on my first phone in 5th grade. I was always left out. I had a jamaican accent and I was considered ugly. Played this song after leaving the middle school dance and realizing no one truly liked me. Song still helps me to this day. Anyone reading this in 2024, keep pushing...This life thing isn't easy but we all got it.

My friend, this song allows you to sing & sway your visceral pain out loud. And, emphathize with others who have also stood in that same space at one time or another. I love your words. They speak to everyone who has ever been ignored by other folks on purpose. The reality is that kind of behavior says more about their lack of emotional & social intelligence than it said about your personality, compassion, good looks, or your unique North Star pointing moral compass. the very first part "come on...what would i do without you?" the flashbacks, as she enters my mind and i visit the places we shared and i shut my eyes and see her. that hits so hard and so deep; as we replay the vows over and over and over. a broken record that never stops skipping. the beginning of this song, its just so dead on . masterpiece of pain and reflection.

When that one special person makes you feel like HOME is anywhere and everywhere they are this song hits perfectly. If you are ever capable of experiencing that type of love or soul mate never let that go because people will spend their entire life looking or hoping that happens for them.

This song is so timeless…sounding so fresh every single time I listen

Damn sorry to hear that! I have days where I I barely make it out my bed too. When I was going through my heartbreak last year, the stress of being in college made it 10x worse. Driving myself crazy at night literally felt like I was "falling to pieces." 💔 The shit sucks.
