The Scorpion & The Frog - Classic Fable - Short Story

The Scorpion and the Frog is an animal fable which teaches that some people cannot resist hurting others even when it is not in their own interests. This fable seems to have emerged in Russia in the early 20th century.
A likely precursor to The Scorpion and the Frog is the Persian fable of The Scorpion and the Turtle. This earlier fable appears in the Anvaar Soheili, a Persian collection of fables written c. 1500 by Hossein Va'ez Kashefi. The Anvaar Soheili is in part a translation of fables from the Panchatantra, a collection of Indian fables written in Sanskrit, but The Scorpion and the Turtle does not appear in the Panchatantra, which means it was added to the Anvaar Soheili by Kashefi and is thus likely Persian in origin.

I remember reading this as a small child and it being really powerful for me. As I've gotten older, I've told this story many times to many people who have a hard time understanding why bad people can do bad things to them- without remorse.- and even and especially when it defies logic. It's in their nature.

It’s about naivety at its price. The Frog's actions show us how we shouldn’t easily trust someone whom we come across, especially someone with killer instinct such as psychopath or any types of criminal in disguise or else they'll regretted with their lives. And the scorpion's behaviour and habit shown us the consequences of our actions of double crossing on people we’ve made deals on cu it will also cost them their lives too.

This is similar to "No good deed goes unpunished". But it should have added "For low life and scumbags" But I think that the moral of the story is that don't do anything indiscriminately, whether good or bad. Because if you do good thing for the wrong people, the result is the story of the Scorpion and the Frog. And if you do bad thing for the wrong people, they might be powerful enough to withstand your maliciousness and pay retribution back 100 folds. So don't just follow your nature and be discriminate with your actions.

Some of yall are racist in these comments but the moral of the story isn't be careful about trusting others. It's more so about trusting yourself , hence the self-destruction line at the end.

  • @ezkiller93

No, it quite literally is not trusting others/other things in whose nature it is to act in such a way. You don't help a horse with a wound on his back half of the body without sedating it first, because it's in its nature to kick you if you're back there.

The message is to stop listening to unkind and untrustworthy peoples false promises, and be more mindful of their actions. If someone who has screwed you over promises that they won’t do so this time, don’t believe them. They will. It’s their nature. They can’t help it. Stop being a sucker. You only have yourself to blame if someone shows you who they are and yet you let them take you down with them again and again.
