As a woman that fights for equality, I don't need a man to be more masculine looking than he is, so beards are usually a turn off for me. But I'd have to add into consideration that as a pansexual person, I don't really care for the outside as much as I care about the intellectual properties of people.

you guys are so adorable together! anyways, greg looks better with a little stubble and mitch without. i think it depends on the bone structure and how it complements you're features. like if you have a more square jaw, then a little stubble is nice but if you're face is more rounded then a clean shaven one works best.but it really all depends of personal taste. personally not a fan of full and long beards though. a little more then a light stubble is fine, but more can be gross.

The attractiveness of beards are social. There may be genetic components, ie, increase in testosterone increases hair increases aggression increases protection for offspring. And there may be some epigenetic factors, but it's mostly social so it changes with trends and society. Since we don't all grow up in the same society, even in similar regions, what is appropriate differs. Since there are few cultures that are OFFENDED by being clean shaven, it's the safest route for a job interview.

***** "aggressive males are shown to be less successful at reproducing though..." You logic breaks down in that you are correlating the appears of aggression with aggression. i.e are men who choose to were a beard, more aggressive then men who choose not to wear beards in today's society? I suspect the opposite but I could be wrong. Good research project for you :)

Do genetics really affect how facial hair grows? (This is coming from a female who knows pretty much nothing about beards or moustaches) But I heard that there are people who only have hair on certain spots, people who can grow full beards and people who pretty much can't grow any.

its 80% genetics and 10 % food, sleep, vitamins and 10% age since most of us need to be at least 25 to be able to have a full beard and some need to be 35-40 to have it , i hope i helped ( also side note shaving every day or twice a day does not help )

This is definitely something to consider. Sometimes a guy just looks so much better with a beard because he has a baseball-mitt-shaped face or something. Or perhaps he's overweight and the beard is slimming. Or maybe he has unusual bulbous lips and the beard helps avoid people being distracted by his mouth when he speaks. Sometimes a beard rocks and sometimes it's better to leave it off. Good call.

To beard, or not to beard? That is the question! Whether 'tis nobler in the face to shave The razors and knifes off outrageous pain Or to take hairs against a face of scruffy, And by opposing shave them. To dye- to shave- No more; and by a shave to say we end The hairache, and the thousand natural shaves That flesh is hair to. I want to keep going...

I conducted two surveys 1994 and 2014: each survey was conducted at a men and women conference meeting to discuss justice issues. Among my female friends I asked the same question: the guys coming through the entrance door, without any discussion with them indicate whether you 'feel that you can trust that guy". Overwhelmingly (90% of the men with beards - long and short ) were identified as trustworthy. When I mentioned that fact that the women overwhelmingly chose men with beards there was immediate denial that beards played any part in their judgement. Go figure.

Due to my genetics, both my moms side and fathers side being hairy I had started growing facial hair at around 9 years old and was shaving by the time I was 10. So growing a beard off and on through out my teens was pretty much the norm for myself. Now at 20 I much prefer having a long beard regardless of what people think or what sort of career I could pursue or how popular it is. I recently shaved mine back in december after growing it out for a year just to see what it was like being cleaned shaved.... Never again I love having a beard.

Dylan Talley Well thank you kind sir. I just enjoy a full beard more than being clean shaven. But it's not for everyone. Most people aren't able to grow a full beard until their mid twenties so you probably will be able to if you so desire. You're just a late bloomer. For myself my beard started growing in on the sideburn area first. Then my mustache, then the chin and the cheeks and under my bottom lip started to come in last. Everybody is different though. I too have a bit of Native American in me. Native American, English, German, Russian and Irish. So I'm more of a mutt than anything. But both of my parents are/were fairly hairy people so it's no wonder I too ended up looking like I am related to sasquatch. hahaha Only problem is now I'm starting to thin on the top of my head. It's all gone to my face I guess.

I grow a beard simply because I am lazy to shave and I found it also irritating to my skin. At least I am honest about my reasons and do not write about any fictional characters or real people, living or dead, as a reason why I do not shave. And I trim my beard every 6 months or so, keep it at about 3 cm in length. Feels comfy in winter, once I trimmed it in winter to about 5 mm and ma face felt a lot colder outside, I hat to get used to it. So thermal insulation is, at least in my case, a real thing, my beard is really fluffy and thick. I do not care that I look like a hobo, in fact other people thinking this of you is an advantage in many situations. I also dress very non formal and like to wear my clothes and shoes until they really wear out. Not that I could not afford new ones. Of course I do not wear dirty or smelling clothes, nor clothes with holes or ripped like some "trendy" jeans these days. Btw. I work in IT. Somebody once told me that I look like Steve Wozniak. I beg to differ. Even if somebody claims that, it is pure coincidence, I am no programmer, nor do I consider myself a nerd (or geek or hipster or anything else) and most important, my knowledge of computers is much much lower than his. Actually, I never wanted to "be the computer guy", but somewhat ended up doing it by a series of coincidences that ultimately are my life. Never wanted to do it anyway, but it pays good and the people in the IT community are generally very open minded, smart and do not dwell on stupid "small town" nonsense like the people in marketing, HR, etc... :-) So I naturally prefer their community. But not the interest in computers and even less in computing, algorythms... Wait, what were we talking about? Oh yes, beards. I drifted away, again... Well what else to, sitting alone in front of my keyboard. Just share my thoughts with a world that does not care eiher. Nor it should. Everything is as it should be. And that is good. Right?

Stubble and patchiness is part of the process. Everyone goes through an awkward stage of facial hair growth but if you can grow a sweet beard it's worth it! Also, beards now a days are being accepted by ALL types of professionals. The key is to take care of it! Using a beard oil, I use detroit grooming co, and keeping it trimmed is the key to looking dapper instead of looking homeless.

In my opinion, it really depends on the person. For instance, someone may look strange without a beard but look attractive with one and vice versa. I really don't think the amount of hair a man has on his face (because that's pretty much what a beard is) should effect what kind of person that man is.

these days every guy has a beard. for whatever reason, it's completely natural for me to do the opposite of what everyone else is doing. i mean, growing pubes all over my face is extremely uncomfortable, itchy and holds water. so THAT is the main reason i shave. but like i said, i hate being apart of the majority. so when i go out, i can know that if the ladies arent into all that bush, they can have the choice of getting with a clean shaved guy anyways.

I personally believe that a beard does make you appear older, wiser, and more competent. Clean shaven makes you look like a kid unless you have a naturally old looking or angular face. The work world hates beards because they think it can be percieved of as unclean, unprofessional looking, too nonchalant, or even scary and aggressive to certain customers.
