The Science of AESOP ROCK: Galloping Rap Flow?!
In "None Shall Pass" by Aesop Rock, we are shown an example of an instance of the "Gallop" rhythm in rap.
The Gallop is a well known rhythm guitar pattern in various subgenres of metal, popularly used by both classic and modern acts from Iron Maiden, Slayer, and Metallica to As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage and Haste the Day.
You'll also find it commonly occurring in rap, especially in the flows of artists whom focus on flow and lyricism. What's less known is that the gallop comes in four distinct forms, best understood as displacement patterns, each with their own flavor.
"The Science of Rap" is the collision of the worlds of Hip hop and music theory. As students of music can use Hip hop to learn theory, and as Hip hop practitioners we can use music theory to elevate our craft.

Been a stagehand for a while. I’ve seen more Aesop stickers on metal bands gear cases than hip hop / rap dudes. Makes sense
This type of breakdown can fill a gap in hip hop content that's needed.
Aesop Rock is the GOAT, that's one of the few hills I'll die on. There is no one better, and I'm including literally everyone in this equation.
Love hearing about Aesop Rock's style, daylight and night light are my favorite tracks too date.
