This was a really great and rare interview. It highlights the nuances of naturopathic therapies in relation to phytochemical research. I really appreciate when science can support what cultures around the world have been experimenting with for thousands of years. Not only that, but to acknowledge the intelligence of plant life and the millions of chemo-diversities that work synergistically and in conjunction with each-other to create a desirable outcome is the perspective in science that I think will support the balance of humanity with the planet.

Learning Traditional Plant medicine has to go hand in hand with ecology preservation. It is pointless to have all these knowledge only to find that these plants have gone extinct because we decided to clear the land for civilization. Then scientists go back to labs to create synthetic versions which is essentially modern drugs. It goes in circles. Not saying TCM is unimportant, in fact very important for everyone to afford their own healthcare. But we must all do our parts to encourage the growth of natural ecology. ✌️

Is there any current reseach based on plant derived medicine? If so, what type of illness is it being applied to? Not to be negative, but I believe that this approach will never be applied in the western civilization due to most of the people like a little pill, capsule or syrups to deal with most ailments. Only time will tell. Thank you for such an informative video!

IMHO, the practice of TCM that includes the use of donkey hide, Rhino horn, tiger bone, Pangolin scales, etc do far more harm than good to the Chinese people, not to mention the immeasurable damage to China's image, as it subject the nation to unwanted condemnation and ridicule. The true TCM scientists should dedicate their efforts to debunk such practice through the social media and put a stop to it.

  • @martialkintu2035

Everything he says about TCM is well and good but problem is that lab is not practicing our researching TCM they are degrading it by violating its most basic principle of the synergistic effect of the element's of the plants and the application to the whole person. I was shocked, when at 17:20 the researcher is clearly describing Genetic engineering, He describes isolating one element from the plant and combining it with another organism. This is man's hubris wherein he thinks he can be so clever as discovering the plants "secret ingredient" and then hideously manipulating to create a new being that never existed on the planet before. This is not even a logical solution. If as described in the film plants learned to create chemicals that protected them from their enemies, wouldn't it make sense that the plant would create many chemicals working in harmony including one that would protect the plant from the strongest chemicals. Also when you create an organism which does not exist in nature and insert it into a natural system its going to have a toxic effect because the body did not evolve with it.

You are wrong that Chinese medicine has 5000 years of experience, because China only has 3500 years of documented civilization. Chinese medicine is a culture of China, it’s not reasonable for a well trained scientist to accept it without question it. Chinese medicine based on experience and not based on systematic science Thought it works sometimes. But it’s a very good idea to find the science behind the working ones like the healing of power of Taichi practice.
