@@Star737_yt It's probably because of the blowing snow. In the north, the wind blows so hard that when you start to mix snow with wind, it can cause extreme whiteout conditions. But at night, if you have the same type of conditions, it can cause a blackout condition, the same type of conditions that when you have a wildfire with blowing embers and smoke in the Western United States.

Wow, Jim Cantore is the only one who can deliver knowledge in this manner. Congratulations maestro!!!

I lived in New England during the ice storm of 98. Freezing rain is bad, but when it’s heavy freezing rain that lasts for five days straight the situation is no joke!

The ice storm of 1998 here in Eastern Ontario was even worse than that. Power poles snapped from nothing other than the extra weight of the ice buildup on the lines. Trees coming down on the wires everywhere added to the problem. Even huge transmission towers were buckled and collapsed from the ice on the cables. People were burning downed power poles for heat because there was no power to run furnaces or electric heaters.

I remember that storm well and I was living in Toronto so we didn't get the worst of it.

These mixed reality videos are very good. Maybe US authorities should publish them whenever they need to advise the public of life threatening weather events. They do appear to get the attention more than someone just sayiing, "...stay home", or "..evacuate".

Nobody does it like Jim. I could not live in this. Unfortunately, we all have our nature from Hell months.

@Zephyx What happens is when you have an ice storm like this, everything starts to get slippery. Business and industries are shut down; that's exactly the way it should be. They're just making this demonstration to make you feel like you're in the ice storm.

@@LizardLeliel We've had ice storms with the icicles in southern Ontario. Not every winter, but we get them. What I love is all the people with SUV's and pick-up trucks think 4 wheel drive will overcome the ice. They're mostly the people sliding down hills and smashing into shit at the bottom of the hills. This is why their insurance is higher. 4 wheel drive and snow tires don't give them the magical abilities they think they do.

@@runningfromabear8354 TBH, riding on snow tires with nails is as if there wasn't any ice. Snow on top of ice is deadly with any tire and car though. It's even hard to drift in a parking lot for fun because it's too unevenly slippery.
