The Sci Fi Horror Anime that Everyone Forgot…

Фильм және анимация

In this episode, Noah takes a look at Magnetic Rose off of Katsuhiro Otomo's Memories. Magnetic Rose is a sci fi horror masterpiece that deserves more recognition, considering the star studded team that worked together on it and how it is a love letter from Japan, to Western sci films.
It has been brought to my attention it is pronounced "Con".....not how Super Eyepatch Wolf pronounces it 😐

It’s not forgotten by any means, but it is definitely underrated. Also you HAVE to see all the short films. My favorite is cannon fodder.

Of course, but I figured if I titled it “Magnetic Rose Analysis” or something less intriguing KZread’s ass algorithm’s wouldn’t have given the video much of a chance and at least amongst my friends I’m really the only one who knows about this film. Big goal was to get Magnetic Rose to as big of an audience as possible and if that meant pleasing KZread, 🤷‍♂️ And I haven’t seen Cannon Fodder but stylistically and aesthetically it looks good!

This might be the fourth video I've seen in my feed with a title similar to "Magnetic Rose: A Forgotten Masterpiece(that you never heard of)". Its scriptwriter is Satoshi Kon. So yes, people know about it, it's just that it's a serious film without over the top action and superpowers. Similar to why Jin-Roh is not as popular as Gundam.

Good analysis, definitely missed a few details you pointed out! especially with the ending, I had the impression that the ship wasn't destroyed but I wasn't too sure, now thematically it makes sense for it not to be.

Just watched it. Honestly, it feels like a dime-a-dozen vague psychedelic trip. Heavy nonsensical storytelling (or rather, lack of), no context for their technology level (how did the guy who was just chiding his partner "What, you never seen a hologram before or something?" not realize the illusion of his family was a hologram?! That's some real wheelchair vegetable level incompetence). It never explains if they were supposed to actually be supernatural ghosts or if it was some form of mind digitization (certainly they'd be aware of such technology), or why that caused her to go insane, OR how her ship was able to generate magnetic fields stronger than anyone there can even comprehend, to the point where the magnetic field was literally ripping apart ships (which would take "literal star going super nova" levels of astronomical extremes). They never even hinted at nanotechnology, which is the only way she could have made the family-breakfast-table scene, which should have been an immediate giveaway for the dude who was subjected to it, yet he never gave any indications of comprehending what was happening. And if this lady was THAT rich, and had mysteriously disappeared in her spaceship-city-of-over-the-top-extravagance 60 years prior to "present day" for the salvage dudes, how had no one heard of her? Hell, if there were some guy back in the 1960s who left on his own personal man-made NYC-sized luxury cruise ship that makes the Titanic look like a tic-tac compared to Mt. Everest, you can best bet literally EVERYONE would have heard about him even in this day and age! There's no WAY they wouldn't know her story, the shape, appearance, and scale of her ship, the technology on board, and how to identify it if they came across it. And the ending... Talk about dissatisfying!

@@jumpreport That essay took me about 10 minutes or less to write. How long did this 20:47 long video take to record, edit, and upload? If you get to be passionate about anime, why can't I be passionate about calling out writing errors in anime, or be passionate about wanting better quality in modern anime compared to the best of the best classic 90s/2000s animes (like Trigun)? Credit where credit is due though, your videos are well made, and I have to give the studio that animated Magnetic Rose top marks for their exceptional animation work!
