The Scary Truth About Darwin Nunez Nobody Is Noticing

The Scary Truth About Darwin Nunez Nobody Is Noticing
He is perhaps the most polarising player in modern football right now. To his doubters, he is just another Andy Carrol who misses easy chances and should never be mentioned in the same breath as Erling Haaland.
But for those who actually watch him week in and week out, he is every bit the next iteration of the great Uruguayan strikers we have come to adore, possessing the speed of prime Edinson Cavani, the skill of Lius Suarez and the insane finishing of Diego Forlan.
This mixture of talents has not always been easy for him to combine. But when it works, Darwin Nunez is the perfect storm. He is chaos personified. He is the raging bull. He is El Matador.

Using Darwins full (add ons + agent fees, plus initial £64mil fee) to compare with Haalands £52mil (with add ons of up to 20 and reported agent/Alfie Haaland fees reportedly between 10-40mil) is exactly what created this false narrative that Nuñez had to instantly better Haaland. The truth is, Haaland's fee (depending on the source) could max out at £114mil including agent fees over his contract, whilst Nuñez maximum transfer cost is £85mil.

@craigbeckley2710 true. Just looked and Haaland's contract is ~£100mil over 5 years compared to Nuñez £46,500,000 over 5 years. Ever at the top estimate of Nuñez transfer it comes to ~£130mil over the duration, compared to the lowest estimate for Haaland at ~£150mil (with the other 60+ never included in the headlines)

The other thing that people don’t look at is touches per game, the amount of touches Darwin takes compared to Haaland is far more. But that’s also because his play style involves tracking back and helping create the attack, where as Haaland has the ball basically filtered to him almost every time. Which is why Haaland scored so many goals, Darwin also is a hard presser and will be all over the back line with the two wingers in shifts along with Szoboszlai who will switch to a CAM in moments of each game. Darwin with the combination of many other forwards Liverpool have is so chaotic and he is the center of that chaos. Everything you are saying is true, he is coming into his own this year and there’s no telling how high his ceiling will get

Darwin Nunez is great man, and he just seems to get better and better. I think he was being unfairly compared to Haaland at first because they were the two big signings of Man City and Liverpool, but he was much less of the finished product when he first joined Liverpool. But yeah he just seems to have improved so much and he's so fun to watch.

great video apart from the vs haaland point, u didn’t mention that haaland had a release clause so it’s not like dortmund accepted the 50m they had no choice. The “why overpay for nunez was clearly better” point is idiotic because haaland would’ve cost upto 150m without the release clause and it’s not like liverpool had the chance to sign any other striker that season cus there wasn’t many options, klopp wanted his man and he didn’t mind paying a little extra for him cus he knew the level he could reach

Im a Liverpool fan and I watch him week in week out and yes he misses a lot but if he conquers that part of his game he could be better than the lumbering Haaland who sometimes looks really out of place in the premier league but obviously has deadly finishing abilities. I've been saying it since day one, Liverpool's style doesn't suit his style, they don't take advantage of his ability to just take off and leave defenders in the dust. Nunez does not have the tight spaces skill or footwork Torres had, but the rest is not too far off. Suarez though is the best striker i've ever seen, could score from anywhere, all sorts of goals, and he always somehow found the space to sneak a goal when it did not look likely!

I agree that we didn't find worthy replacements for Bobby and Mane, but i think Nunez is not that bad as people make him to be. He scored 16 goals so far and he creates so many chances, he has athleticism and gives his everything until the last minute. He has to improve in some aspects such as positioning himself better, he goes offside way too oftenly and of course his finishing. I don't think he is that bad of a finisher though, it became mainstream to hate on Nunez when he misses a chance and quite honestly there are many more players in our team that missed easy chances but not so much noise has been made, even match winning chances that could have resulted in us having more points. Nunez did miss many chances too, but mostly it wasn't crucial chances that resulted in points loss. Not to mention that even rival teams have players who missed so many easy chances also, I just find it unfair to criticize only Nunez based on that when so many other players are doing the same.

Not good enough yet has been one of their best players this season, Liverpool are much worse without him, funny you mention hojlund he has played just 200 less mins but has 16 less g/a this season, in just the prem it's still 9 less in only 100 less mins. Darwin is faster stronger, more physical, harder worker, better presser, better defensively, better at making runs, better link up play, better hold up play, better at spraying the ball around (the multiple trent-esque passes vs sparta prague at home in just 1 half), much more of a handful, and all in all will contribute in his team scoring much more goals.
