They seek him there,
Those Frenchies seek him everywhere,
Is he is heaven?
Or is he in hell?
That demmed elusive pimpernel."

+JohnLoCicero That's okay, I use "Sink me" the way he pronounces it in the movie. People look at me strange and ask "what?!" I always say "find & watch the movie The Scarlet Pimpernel, with Anthony Andrews". . . . . .I seriously doubt they do. 😆

Over 20 years later and I still remember this damned poem. This movie was fun.

Gad Sir, a fine post!
I was a film extra in this film,( An Aristocrat ) and recall that a good bit of it was filmed at Ragley Hall.I have plenty of photos to prove the point albeit only one of myself.( I was taking all the photos you see).I have a few of Anthony Andrews and a few of Jane Seymour, as well as one or two of The Marquess of Hertford and his family. I was actually talking to The Marquess of Hertford's daughter when we we not being filmed, and we were standing together in the Ballroom scene.

I remember watching this when I was in 4th grade. I learned the poem and recited to my class and they blushed when I said "hell", thanks for posting:)) truly classic. Not to mention, I used to walk around an act like Percy, I thought he was so cool :))

Oh my god, he was so freaking attractive. I love this movie. He should have been born like 40 years later... *cries in pillow*
"They seek him here, They seek him there, Those Frenchies seek him everywhere, Is he is heaven? Or is he in hell? That demmed elusive pimpernel."
The gasps right after Percy says "Hell" really, forgive the pun, SINK me.
I can't believe I still remember part of the poem. This is so wonderful.
I watched this when it first aired and fell in love. With Anthony Andrews and the books. 🥰
We quote this movie at home all the time, especially the poem and 'sink me!' :D
I saw the musical for this in high school, awesome stuff, it was. Percy really shines as a character- he can make you laugh without trying, win you over with a gesture or a simple quip from his snooty drawl. Yet no one would ever think that he is indeed 'that demmned elusive pimpernel...' XD
If there was ever a movie that deserved a remake, this is it.

Anthony Andrews' portrayal of Sir Percival is a masterpiece! Once you have seen him in this role you will never forget him... or the way he recites the Poem... the way the women gasp. Sink me! I do believe he stole my heart as soon as he announced the title ❤ Belated Happy Birthday Anthony (Jan. 12)🎉

Very good❤! He's can to be like Leslie Howard, the first, great Sir Percy Blackney alias Scarlet Pimpernel! The same dandy voice!
This poem was in my head like a month ago, and now the 1934 movie is about to go on TCM
He is perfect for the role! :)
🔥I’ve watched this movie hundreds of times... i believe it’s why i love the look of satin 😂

why is this poem pure crack? we saw this in high school in 2008 and i still think about it regularly. before i looked it up i could still recite it perfectly with the tone of the second version.
After I saw that movie, I imitated him for about a month haha.

If you want to see Anthony Andrews at the top of his game, watch the British mini-series, based on the famous book by Evelyn Waugh, called Brideshead Revisited. There he is one of the main charactera, playing along... wait for it... Jeremy Irons, Lawrence Olivier, John Gielgud... and so on. Still the best TV mini-series I have ever seen.
Fabulous Pimpernel but my loyalty will always be to Leslie Howard :D

There’s an old person who lives locally who to this day, if he needs to vent, says “what the h!”, rather than use the word hell It sounds almost ridiculous nowadays but he was brought up in a small village & as a tight knit community they were exceedingly religious
