Every great father deserves an amazing daughter like Æthalflæd of Mercia. I bet Alfred would have been so proud of her if he lived to see her accomplishments, as she and her brother worked hard to build upon his legacy.

The mere scraps of historical records from sub Roman Britannia to 1066 is so disappointing - because it appears to have been an amazing period. Yet the Doomsday Book (immediately after the Conquest) indicates that there was a deep understanding of detailed record keeping amongst whatever passed for the “Civil Service”. What happened to those Anglo Saxon records? Did the new Anglo Norman speaking rulers simply destroy them because they were written in (to them) unintelligible OId English? I often wonder if buried in a tomb somewhere there is a trove of Old English manuscripts just waiting to be discovered … but I know I’m probably only dreaming.

Not very clever of "Inner Vision" to show a map of Europe and the middle east while Mr Wolf is talking about Russia being the largest country by geography in the world. Perhaps "Inner Vision" doesn't know where Russia is?

danelaw was a reality in *english history* , it was part of european history... too... jorvik -york was known far and wide.. king alfred the great, during his time, was one of the greatest kings of the english, but he did not rule all of the english, let alone england... many of the kings before 1066 are called *king of the english*... his son athelstan should really be called great..., however the vikings have a bad reputation from the anglo saxon chronicle, the reality is attempted massacare of the vikings... had consequences ... king cnut or canute, only in england and english history, is made to be a idiotic savage, barbaric and clueless king... who tried to controll the sea, or spoke like a mad man.. he was christian, knew he couldnt control the sea...did it as demonstration of his temporal power...he was no viking god.. a king...of north sea empire... when in denmark and all around europe, he is CANUTE THE GREAT... not canute the fool or savage, king of england... queen emma of normandy , also consort, regent and dowager... is a forgotten woman in english history..., related to king william the conqueror, or as the english named him the bastard ... but harold was a mere minor earl, appointed by king canute... this story will feature in the hbo & bbc upcoming 2024 drama...

Everything that these women did would have been considered shocking and rare. Women were supposed to take care of the home and family not run around and defending their Homeland the men usually did that but I guess they had to once they ran out of men.

The tree is native to the Arabian peninsula (Oman, Yemen) and to Africa (Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia, Northeast Kenya). It is called 'mur' (المر) in Arabic, meaning bitter. It famously comes from Mecca, so it is called 'Mur Makki'. Where did this white man got Mur from?! They were not white, but black!
