The Santana Retro | Demo | PRS Guitars

Музыка

Carlos Santana's longstanding creative partnership with Paul Reed Smith has done much to shape the destiny of PRS Guitars. Over the years, we have honored this pivotal alliance by offering variations of his signature model instrument. The Santana Retro - a blend of history and modern manufacturing - pays homage to the early "Pre-Factory" guitars Paul built for Carlos in the early 1980’s, with unique design elements including a deeper body carve, original style heel, and the original headstock shape and nut placement. Starting in 2024, it also features a 24.594” scale length.
Watch along as product specialist Bryan Ewald walks us through the specs and tonal capabilities of this highly musical guitar good enough for the man himself.

Are you kidding, Bryan play is absolutely beautiful. He’s the perfect person to demo this guitar. I’ve been following PRS for a long time, and Bryan is outstanding.

I am lucky to have a Santana Retro, mine came with a 58/15 in the bridge and a Santana pick up in the rhythm pick up. Wonderful piece of art that sounds amazing. Ohio Guy

It's a very musical guitar. It can sound almost single coil like, with the right kinda amp. The Santana Retro is full of character and tone. Amazing guitar!

I wouldn't normally consider a bridge humbucker when thinking about a more jazzy/bossa nova-ish type of tone. Great demo Bryan and PRS put together. Carlos guitars definetely have it in them to evoke The Santana type of sound, specially if one has the chops

a whole 2.39mm across the neck... no way to feel that difference. First thought it was a marketing gimmick, but probably just simplifies production. one less changeover for cutting neck slots.

Those were only on the first generation. Since the Santana II (early 2000s?), this has been the layout. (with some deviations in some years here and there, where they had knob placements similar to custom 24)

PRS guitars are works of art (and science). And Bryan's demos are great. Now, can PRS hire a real video editor to do the instruments and performer justice? I've never seen such unmotivated cuts from a 3-camera shoot. The oblique angles on Bryan talking are especially bizarre.
