The photo of the priest is held at my Polish Church in Cleveland Ohio. I always wondered when I was little what the picture was. I asked my dad about 5 years ago. And he told me the story of this Preist, and.. how he saved this man's life. Afterwards, I entered that church and looked at the picture differently. Before seeing it as a picture on the wall. Now, I see it as a picture of a hero.. a man whom saved another man's life for love and god. Thank you for the video Patrick.

A priest at my church met Fr. Kolbe. He has written a book about him and what he experienced when he met Fr. Kolbe. As you said, the man Fr. Kolbe saved was at the ceremony were St. John Paul II made him a saint. What you didn't mention is that soon after attending the service, the man passed away. I find this to be poetic justice, in a way. The man who was saved by A stranger was able to see that stranger become honored by the Catholic church.

Where does the antisemitic notion come in with St. Max? I heard he advocated THE ELDERS OF ZION. ideas. I know it was a horrible book, so how was St. MaximillIan Kolbe involved; anyone know? It is hard to believe when he saved hundreds of Jews by hiding them as well as partisans or others?!? Does anyone know? And surely, Pope wouldnt canonize him if there was doubt. Look at Pius XII. HE saved 80000 or 100000 or is it 860000, and they wont canonize him. Regardless, he was a good man and even if in purgatory--which I doubt, he is Righteous Among The Nations by Israel. HITLER wasnt his favorite either. He hid Jews and others in Vatican or closed his eyes to the allied flyers being saved. And that THE SCARLET & THE BLACK film didnt do him justice. I dont think he advocated assassinating Hitler but didn't ban it either. He was concerned with how his being outspoken would cause Nazis to treat Catholics & Jews. He had had enough experience dealing with hitler under Pius XI. That HITLER'S POPE book is a tissue of lies. It is like the opponents of Church act like priests approve of pediophilia! They dont, and Church may have been naive or maybe just too reluctant to condemn individuals w/o absolute proof; but the Church has tried to be just. If She condemns, she is an ogre--Inquisition, tyrannical; if slow to condemn, then Church is painted as complicit.-- Not fair! THE SWISS GUARDS ARENT SS LET ALONE REAL POLICEMEN. IF people think Pope is no one outside Church, why act like he is Caesar and world Roman Empire? I never will get it!

You have done him, and all the other victims of the Holocaust, a great service by sharing this story with us. Thanks to the service of people like yourself, their story will not be forgotten. Not in our time at least. Thank you Patrick.

Oh dear, I cried a lot. Thank you for sharing their story in such a beautiful (and well made!) video. It breaks my heart whenever I think about those time and what was happening back then. It's nearly hard to believe what choices people were forced to make! They never should've had to! It was an extremely low point in the history (and sadly one of many). I just hope nothing like this will happen again and other parts of the world will find peace and respect for humanity too, regardless the faith, race or gender.

Man, this was really emotional. I can't help but think what that Officer was thinking when the Priest came up to him too offer he's life in exchange for that man crying out for he's family. Most likely regard him as nothing. I would have been shocked as there are more then dozen in that camp struggling for the will too live while this man gave up he's for someone he didn't knew. Man it's sad too hear story's like that for people like him.

It would please Maximillian Kolbe to no end if, when you hear his story, when you learn how he died by giving himself up to murderers, when you think about his total sacrifice for the sake of another... you would see in him a glimpse of the One he was imitating, see his Master in the disciple's actions and loves, see his heart's desire. ✝️ 🔥 ❤

Maybe, because Andrzej Pilecki had some visitors from Hollywood some time ago, who offered to make a movie about a great hero, but only if he admits, that W. Pilecki was a Jewish man. He protested and there is no movie. Moreover, there is not an exhibition in Aushwitz either since then.

In my 7th grade Literature class, we read a novel called The Devil’s Arithmetic. It was a story of a girl’s life who went to Auschwitz. In preparation for what we were about to read, we watched a few videos about Auschwitz. One of them was about Saint Maximilian Kolbe. It wasn’t very well produced, not even having voices in it. As I go back to school this fall, I am sure to suggest this video to my Literature teacher (who will now be my Religion teacher). Thank you for this amazing short film on a great Catholic man.
