This show is one of the best examples of generational trauma spanning through time. Bojack never had a chance, he was shot in the foot from the day he was conceived. Joseph Sugarman destroyed Beatrice, robbed her of a mother and of a childhood, and in turn Beatrice and Butterscotch destroyed Bojack.

Then, bojack destroyed Sarah Lynn. Putting the ideology of entertaining people "until the curtain calls", and only then could she stop when she died tragically young, or died naturally. She spent her whole life entertaining people despite wanting to become an architect. Out of all the people Bojack has made a bad impact on, Sarah Lynn was the one who probably suffered the most due to his trauma. This is shown more during her performance at the show in Bojacks mind: "The chatter stops, the crowd departs, a needle drops, the music starts. A song you taught me when I was small. Don’t stop dancing." She kept dancing until her curtain called.

My grandfather’s the same way. He idolizes his father for “being born tough and dying tough” and emulates him in a way. In reality, my great grandfather was horribly abusive in every way and drove all his children to insanity and self-destruction. My great aunt and uncles all died early, but my grandfather sits in his house wasting away as he hold onto that fracturing worldview one shattered piece at a time. He convinced himself that his childhood was normal, and that any fault lies with himself, and he’s acknowledged that he might be wrong, but that he doesn’t care. I think he’s convinced that if he admits to himself he’s a victim and allows himself to feel that weakness he’ll break. In trying to be like his father, he doesn’t know how to show his children and grandchildren proper affection, and accidentally traumatized me through emotional and verbal abuse. Sometimes I think that out of his siblings, his fate is the worst.

Yo when I was a kid I loved the show Naruto. I drew pictures of the characters and posted them all over my walls. I collected books, and watched every episode, I have games and movies and everything. I’d always talk about it. I even got some poster board and drew a big as picture of Deidara to hang above my bed because I was so proud of it. I was at my creative peak. My mom didn’t like it because she said I was obsessed to I moved the picture to my closet wall and put up ribbons and stuff around it. When she found it she collected everything I had related to the show, threw them all in a big black bag and trashed them. I remember walking to her room and seeing the full bag sitting outside of her bedroom. I could see the manga poking out of it. Later she took away a beanie baby that a cared for because she thought that I thought it was real because I was feeding it at a restaurant like kids fucking do. I threw a fit in the parking lot and she sent me to a psych hospital. Now I don’t like doctors and I have no hobbies. I’ve been raised on medication because she didn’t know how to communicate with me. She still thinks I was crazy for liking a show. I wonder why I’ve been depressed and anxious my whole life? I wonder why I can’t make friends. What’s funny is that she has an abnormal obsession with collecting toys and both her and her lover are hoarders so I feel like I’m being buried alive in garbage. Yeah apparently I’m this way because of myself. More pills plz thanks.

The Era of 1930-1950 in the US was full of misogyny, racism, and abuse. Many parents either had really screwed up ways of raising their kids due to their own abuse from their parents or were just plain bitter and abusive because life wasn't kind to many in those days... In Beatrices case; her father was a rich, corrupt POS who would gladly lobotimize his wife than lose money or burn his daughters stuff causing her trauma just because he was worried. It really is a cycle of pain and suffering that is only ceased by empathy and kindness.

This is even more depressing when you realise this character jas dementia which is why most people have blurred faces. This explains so much about Beatrice… she was deliberately raised to be the way she was. To be cold and cruel, so that she can be “strong”. Let go of attachments and don’t get attached to anything (or anyone) else for the pain of losing them would be crippling. Create a wall- a barrier- so strong that no one could break your defences. It really is an incredible thing when writers make you sympathize with someone you would’ve originally started off hating.

Don’t stop dancing." She kept dancing until her curtain called.

this show is so fucked up and so golden. it takes all of the tough shitty parts of life and strings them into a lesson, and also a coping mechanism for getting yourself out of those shitty situations. you don't wanna end up like bojack or any of the horses in his family, but you see so much of yourself and your relatives in them. it's a blessing to have that kinda wake-up call.

I wanna be the fight that stops the abuse. Whether it be from mentors or family or anybody else who failed me. It disgusted me how Mr. Peanut Butter was treated because that’s the kind of person I see my future significant other being. I don’t think he should’ve ever been punished for being kind. Those women shouldn’t have changed him. It made me angry even though he’s a fictional character.

WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT HOW HER BABY WAS SMILING THEN FROWNING IN THE FIRE???
Ive seen this so many times i cant even cry anymore -
Yo when I was a kid I loved the show Naruto.

Each Day, there is new, each day there is another new, but there is nothing that is newer that knew it all, always in regard, always in-store, always does not deteriorate, always does not experience loss, for they are accounted and retrievable, it is honorable, it is also commendable.
When she says “no not my baby!” “NOOOOO MY BABY…” makes me always tear up it reminds me of losing my dog
“Crying is stupid” *Revs chainsaw* “You’re about to look really stupid my dude.”

This made me cry so hard 😭
i would've thought she throw herself into fire to save her baby 😢
I think people forget WHY we see her backstory. It’s so we can see WHY she acts the way she does. It’s important to remember there’s a reason why HE acts this way, even if it’s horrible.

Explainations, not excuses. And I love to see it. (many see the backstory and think it excuses the actions, when in reality it's showing just how far down the rabbit hole trauma can go)

" Dont let your womanly emotions consume you" That is just fucked up, This show really captured the trauma and other things that happen.
When he said especially the baby I started cracking up 😂
This honestly made me cry because my dad treated me like that when I was really young which sadly I am still in that state in the past, but gladly he’s no longer lives with me and my mom.
This show is the perfect example of just because you have a traumatic past doesn't give you an excuse to how you still can be a bad person like when we see bojack's past we feel sorry but then when he makes unforgettable mistake we can still see him as a bad person its like a reminder that you can choose to be a better person from your past or continue to spiral downwards and we see that happing to bojack throughout the show
