Yes, but I only care about zero drop, big toe box, flexibility. I have one with 9mm cushion and one with 16mm. the more the cushion the less the injuries and they tend to fail less but still the insoles and inside of the shoe fails in about 6~12 months, I do about 6~12k steps per day and while traveling about 28k

I've been wearing barefoot shoes for 5+ years now and easily average over 10K steps a day (bc of my active & needy dog). Despite this, I haven't experienced any foot pain. In fact, we used to live on a farm so I did the walks without shoes. Now that I live in the city, I do the same distance but on concrete with barefoot shoes. I also wear barefoot shoes to run and for backpacking trips too. What I'm getting at is that everyone is different and you might not have to same issues as Pete

Hey Pete. I’ve been barefoot / minimally shod for many years. The one thing many people don’t do when they transition to barefoot shoes is specific foot strengthening exercises to work on the arches of the feet (which form the foot tripod) along with the intrinsic and extrinsic muscles. This should be an ongoing process too to maintain foot health and posterior chain health. Also walking gait in barefoot shoes will be different to that in cushy shoes - the tread wear pattern on those Xeros indicates excessive pressure on the metatarsal area, which might explain your foot pain. Gait should be gentle heel to midfoot landing close to one’s centre of mass - like the ascent of man image. I’ve a pair of Vivo Primus Trails that are 4 years old and not worn out yet. Altra are good as they’re foot shaped. Another option is a softer insole in barefoot shoes like North Sole to give a bit more protection. Hope your feet are better soon 😊

Hey Anni, so do you think I need to work on my gait to fix my foot pain?

  • @anniwilson2534

@@PeteOnPurpose hard to say without an assessment. Might be worth getting your gait looked at though. Sometimes excessive wear around the metatarsal area is due to a twisting of the feet before toeing off. And factors like stride length will affect - overstriding can be a cause of metatarsal issues, as the foot has to go through more supination / pronation and increase this twisting load. A wear pattern under the big toe of a barefoot shoe is normal, and shows a good toeing off. Also if the wear looks like footprint shape 👣 that’s good. Compare the wear pattern of your thicker soled shoes too. How we walk barefoot should be how we walk wearing shoes but some shoes can alter that. Just some observations as I’m a bit of a foot nerd 🤓

My transition to barefoot shoes was incredibly rough. I ordered a cheap pair of whitins on Amazon that weren’t quite wide enough but they were very minimal and did the job of introducing my feet to the concrete. I’m active and could easily run 5 miles in regular shoes but when I put these on my legs were destroyed after a mile. I worked my way up to jogging 3 miles a day in these shoes but it wasnt easy and i often had to take breaks and did a lot of walking. after around 6-8 months my feet ankles and legs were stronger than i ever thought they could be. I now have like 15 pairs of barefoot shoes from different companies but mainly xero and vivo. After the initial adjustment period I’ve never felt foot pain again and couldn’t imagine going back to padded shoes even to walk around in.

I’ve been wearing barefoot shoes for a couple of years. I have to say, they’ve increased my enjoyment of walking. I love feeling the ground beneath me. It’s helped me with my posture, balance and foot strength. For me the weak point has been pain in my Achilles, especially when climbing steep hills & mountains for longer periods. Other than that it’s been a very positive experience. I actually find that barefoot shoes last longer than regular shoes, I’ve been averaging around 1000 miles per pair, vs my Altra’s that last 350-500 miles. I walk an average of 24,000 steps per day.

I believe most of your problems can be solved with one main thing, gait and the pressure you put to go along with that. Gait when propper can enhance and extend the life of the shoe and ease foot pain. I am a very active person who hikes, plays volleyball, runs, works, and more all in barefoot shoes, and havent had any pain issues after fixing my gait. The other thing that got helped with fixing my gait was the durability of my shoes. Before a pair might last me 3 months, but now, a pair will last me for far more than 3 years, some even up to 6. For a lot of barefoot shoes the durability is surprisingly good despite the thin sole, and thats mainly because your foot is doing most of the work. For me at least, the heavy price tag is worth it, but some peoples feet just dont work well with barefoot shoes.

I used to have pain in my feet from walking too much on city roads with minimalist shoes. Here are several things that helped me. 1. Practice walking more lightly, like you want to be as quiet as possible. Even with wearing barefoot shoes it doesn’t guarantee you’d walk/run with perfect form, especially if you are not actually barefoot. 2. Feet message. I have a golf ball that I use to roll my feet on while I do my bedtime routine every night. It helps relax the muscles and tendons. You can use other tools or your hands. 3. Let it recover. If you feel pain, don’t ignore it. walk less or wear a cushioned wide toe box shoe the next day, it usually means your feet will be stronger afterwards if you can fully recover within a couple days. 4. Train your feet. If you are not a runner, do some high jumps or calf raises exercises through out your day (or just try running). Let your feet move in dynamic ways. I find that I have the most feet pain when I have to walk/stand a lot on hard surfaces without the time to run for more than a couple days. I find running at least 3 times a week or daily feet exercise completely remove my chronic feet pain. Conclusion: Going barefoot is a serious athletic transition. You are letting your feet do all the work of the most intensively used daily movement (walking). It requires maintenance just like any other body parts you use for sport. Regularly check your form to see if you could use your feet more effectively. Hope this helps!

They both let your toes spread out wide and I’m able to wear them all day long without a problem even though I have plantar fasciitis and bone spurs in my heels, my main comfortable shoe or crocs. I can wear my crocs all day long and at night my feet are sore but they’re not devastating.

Look at your body’s alignment, which muscles are doing most of the work and which ones are not. Make sure your pelvis is neutrally aligned and is actually over your ankles, not several inches in front of it. Look into Katy Bowman books or a website. Good luck!

Recently, ive been having some issues with the sides of my feet. Ive always been a "wide and extra wide" fit, but didnt know it. So i've taken it upon myself to now wear wide shoes. I've had to wear prescribed orthotics growing up, and most of the time I walked barefoot believe it or not... and have to say i'm now not going to wear barefoot shoes. Pain is not to be taken lightly, and i hope people take what you say seriously. As you say you've obviously had some issues and imo need to get therapy and better shoes.. presumably wides, and a specialized orthotic. A pinched nerve can pretty much ruin your day, not worth it! I presume most viewers actually don't walk or run much, but i do walk every day everyday. Cheers. P.s there are other sneakers that better accommodate a natural foot shape that aren't exactly high heeled airs, that come in extra wides as well.. with great cushioning.

never had an issue with foot pain. in fact my back felt better. My speculation is that some people need to build up their foot strength and walk slowly and deliberately until they have the muscles that are atrophied in their feet strengthen. I have played hockey my entire life and remember after a layoff feeling those muscles getting the burn so perhaps I already had good technique. Anyway if one has been wearing modern footwear they weaken and make one rely on those inserts or 'arch support' areas to the detriment of their natural foot flexibility. It's like I see people when they are tired running with bad technique. Better to have perfect form even if you have to slow down. Those feet should be uber flexible. Ankle motion all the way up the knee. Your gait WILL change if you land and follow through the foot as it should sans modern footwear. And FWIW I ran CC as a high schooler and went barefoot as nothing eliminated shin splints but barefoot style shoes.

I've got three pairs now; my first pair lasted me a year and a half of daily wear. now I've got 2 others, one pairs about 2 years old and the other a year and neither of these are goners yet. The first pair (Be Lenka city black), i didn't exactly go through the sole or anything, it's more like the sole is slowly coming apart from the uppers. the glue isn't holding, so i might actually try to repair them some time, idk yet. They were really comfy xD ) The next pair were the leguanos (husky black) my winter shoes, gone through 2 winters now and still great. and then there's the vivobarefoots gobi II, my most recent addition and great, the sole feels a little stiff compared to the others, but eh, at least they'll protect my feet haha. Anyway, I mostly use em on concrete or indoors (both dry and wet and soapy) and outdoors, mostly in parks or woods. generally about 10k-15k steps a day, and 2 or 3 times a week 25k in a day. Yes, the soles are thin and flexible, but still, How do YOU wear through them so fast?

I already can't wear regular shoes. Interestingly, finding truly wide barefoot shoes is harder than I thought it would be. Plenty have a wide toe box, but few are actually wide let alone 4E+. I've gone barefoot, truly without shoes, as much as I can for as long as I can remember as I dislike shoes (probably because they never fit). My second choice has always been cheap, basic, flat flip flops. Now that I have started the transition to barefoot, I can only imagine my foot getting wider...lol. I'm going to have to wear the boxes instead of the shoes. I got into barefoot shoes because regular shoes had recently started hurting the arch on my left foot. Going without shoes made the pain disappear so I kind of just made the jump. That said, my cardio took a hit as that is the one area where I wore actual supportive shoes. What a difference my caves and shins have noticed, lol. But at least I can walk now.

I’ll keep this brief , I really like your videos and watch out for updates but I think you’ve got this one all wrong mate , imo anyway , the earlier barefoot shoes yes weren’t great aesthetically but they’ve come on so much since then , I only wear Vivo and to say that they’re ugly … just not so , some of the newer styles are very cool and I’ve been complemented on them by many people , who cares about your height … you are what you are it’s that simple , expense wise … yes they are expensive but for a reason , firstly like you say they’re pretty new still and not many people buy them so they will eventually come down as they become more popular (and they will) but they are really well made , use the best materials and the health benefits are huge (after a proper induction into barefoot shoes ) which does take time. Your feet will change yes …. To how they are supposed to be and to how nature created them , as to foot pain I’m sorry to hear you struggle with pain , however after a proper transition to barefoot shoes which does take I think almost up to a year , the pain will have eased and your feet , ankles , leg muscles , back muscles in fact your whole body would have adapted and you will be wearing the most comfiest shoes on the market with so many health benefits , anyway just my opinion and keep up the good videos , I do enjoy them ! 😊👍

Hey Andrew, I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with me You are definitely right about vivo shoes, they are the most stylish barefoot shoes but unfortunately my fat feet cant fit into them. 😅 Concerning the foot pain and transitioning I have been wearing barefoot shoes for over 3 and a half years now and the pain only started about 6-8 months ago, before then I would have said the same thing about barefoot shoes and was a major advocate (hence all the review videos) However it was when I moved to the city and started walking predominantly on concrete that the foot pain started occurring so i believe there is a correlation though I could be wrong? I am also now aware thanks to some comments that maybe I am not walking correctly so that could also be the issue and something I need to work on. I had no idea walking was so difficult. 😅

Came here to see that this "SAD TRUTH" is actually healthier than the normal shoes..... Academically speaking barefoot shoes ARE BETTER for foot health and that is not even arguable. I already have the most wider feet possible and full flat, no arch at all, i was born like this, so this dude is saying that in my case is a win win? Does this guy know how primate feet are? They are supposed to be wide to grapple onto stuff like tress, rocks, branches... I do Slackline for example and my wide feet can literally grab the slakcline just how evolution made it. Come on! "they Ugly" is a statement but is not a good reason..... You wear barefoot to be healthy, if you want aesthetics use a carp regular shoes.... I came here trying to find GOOD reason or even a GOOD argument for not using this barefoot shoes and all i got was a total confirmation that THEY are the BEST option available out there IF your goal is HEALTHY feet! PS: There will always be some rando person trying to tell that something healthy is not that healthy and come up with this nonsense arguments, just like there is a LOT of academic research that ARE WRONG so yea. Thanks for the video it helped me stick with the barefoot shoes forever.

Regardless of gender, if a person cares more about your height than your personality then you're probably not going to enjoy talking to them anyway. So assuming you're after more than a wordless one night stand, getting those people out of your prospective dating pool is for the best.

When you wear these shoes you are Not closer to the earth. You are closer to a 15-inches man made hard block of steel and CONCRETE, which it is on top of the earth. (Grass, Sand, etc) Now wide toes shoes, yes it is a good idea!!!!
