I grew up on his music, Eddie Arnold, Red Foley etc. Back in the early 80's, he was in the winner's circle after a horse I trained won. The usher politely asked me if I could scoot over a little to make room for Mr. Chester Atkins...I wheeled around on my heels and exclaimed, "You mean Chet!?"...and there he was. He got a big kick out of my outburst and I about took his arm off at the should shaking his hand. It remains a highlight and privilege of my life.

He was the one all the others look up to... Is there better out there? No , just different.. Is Knopfler ,Emmanuel or Bresh, ect better? Ask them.. and they'll say no ... because he was their inspiration and their hero and close friend. Was Chet better than Myrle Travis because he used more fingers ? No . Without Myrle there'd be no Chet.. Without Chet there'd be no Tommy...

My father was a country western song lover. He loved Chad Atkins. I was introduced to Chad Atkins when I was a kid because of my dad. I always wanted to play guitar like Chad Atkins. Well it’s a hell of a lot easier saying it then it is doing it. I have been a guitar player since 1974. I can read music finger style guitar music and have good dexterity in my fingers still to this day at 70 years old. I love guitar, but sometimes Chad Atkins style is really a Stomper after playing for 50 years, I still run into complications. But it’s not the guitar. It’s the person that’s playing it. Chad Atkins was one of my favorites. He will always live in my heart. He’s the one who inspired me to play guitar. Love you chat may you rest in peace.❤️😄👍🎼🎵🎶🎸

I had the pleasure of meeting Chet at the Wheeling, WV Jamboree in 1986, thanks to George Lund. Both my father and I are guitar players. Dad has gone on, but Chet Atkins heavily influenced my playing and led me to to my life in music, first as lead guitar in a rock band, and later in life playing Christian music. A photo of my family and I meeting Chet hangs in my home studio. I will never forget him. Shalom/gw

As a lifelong Chet fan and picker, I felt compelled to watch this. 🙄The content was evidently written and read by AI (“See Simmahn”, “Merley”?) The images are random or completely inappropriate, certain “facts” have been synthesized, and the chronology is a mess. It adds nothing to Chet’s story. Chet faced hard times early in life, but he overcame them to become one of the most successful and beloved musicians in history. Everyone dies, but to characterize Chet’s life as sad and tragic is click bait plain and simple. Chet fans, don’t waste your time on this AI-generated tripe.

One show i attended & saw Chet was in Decatur Alabama at the fairgrounds. Loretta Lynn's husband had just died & Chet and Jerry Reed filled in for her. They just played under a big tent, during the fair, like they probably often did 40-50 yrs. earlier. Chet asked for prayers for "Ms. Lynn and family" and said..."I'm sorry i'm not a "star" (like Loretta), "maybe just a semi-dim light bulb in the marquee of show business."

Chet Atkins was of course one of the all time great guitar players. However one has to remember there are a great many different guitar styles, from Chet style, to Jazz, to Rockabilly, to Rock, to Heavy Metal and so forth and so on. That being the case there is absolutely no way to rank the 100 greatest guitar players of all time. The only legitimate way to rank guitar players is by the number of records they sell and the number of concerts they sell out. In that respect I'm sure Chet ranks far higher than number 21. As far as growing up during the great depression a lot of people did that and as far as dying of cancer and other assorted things everybody does that. So I'll be content to remember Chet as one of the all time great guitar players.

The author, or authors, of this video is a liar. There is nothing in this video indicative of a "sad and tragic life." Any somewhat insignificant down times were a normal part of the process of what he ultimate became. His death at the age of 77 from cancer came after a long and successful life and career. Once again the author of this video titles it "the sad and tragic life of Chet Atkins" as click bait and it is a lie. You should be ashamed of yourself for casting aspersions in the video's title, at a man as great as Chet Atkins. How about this: "The Renowned Life and Career of a Great Musician, Chet Atkins."
