    I mostly agree. I REALLY appreciate him trying, and he absolutely should stay the money man, but they really need a full-time "bad guy" GM. Someone to deliver the bad news and enforce the rules. I feel bad for them at this point it really will be a make or break year. TV deals and ALL IN 2 looms. The biggest difference between WWF/E and every other wrestling promotion that existed in the last 40 years is the structure of WWF/E. If you love him or hate him, Vince McMahon created a pro-wrestling model that runs like a well-oiled machine. If you can't establish this hierarchy, it's only a matter of time until it implodes.

    it was Tony Khan he got too greedy and then let it all go to waste once he had full control. Originaly Cody & Bucks were leaving to WWE in 2019 after ALL OUT 2018, but Omega convniced them to join Khan who was going to buy out ROH but decided to just createa new company based on Cody's ALL OUT movment. TK started to push false narratives that cody would turn heel, that its a work, and Cody left. Really Khan just wanted him out of th eway because Cody was only person that could check him on storylines & booking. Then TK bough in Punk, all these NXT guys, and suddenly AEW felt more like NXT than old ROH/ Impact/New Japan cast originally intended. Once TK had full control after Cody left, and he regulated the EVP role, Khan just neglected the company like he neglects the Jaguars, Fullham , and then the roster imploded on itself. The writting was on wall, within 1 years when cody left that AEW would collapse on itself. The gensis was the ALL OUT 2018 movmeent , wimbley was a aresult of that. But without the original people who started & booked that movement, you had a manchild that was reaping off successes of that movement.

    I’ve been watching wrestling since about 83-84 when I was a kid. I’ve seen a lot of peeks and valleys. AEW has a lot going for them. They are on a major network, the ppv’s pull in big numbers and they have a lot of talent. I don’t think it’s too late for them. First thing I’d do is book smaller arenas (once they’ve fulfilled the obligations for the bigger arenas they’ve already paid for) for tv, focus on good storytelling, enhance homegrown talent and perhaps cut some unused talent. I saw WCW and WWF rebound, hopefully they go that route instead of the AWA route

  • @childishe60

    @childishe60

    I feel like AEW backed it self in a corner so bad that it’s going to take a couple years to get back on track, maybe even longer. I agree with you on all the suggestions, especially storytelling. I noticed the storyline tends to go all over the place and even sometimes go unfinished for a while. It what turned me off to AEW, because it was too much to follow or lack of. Initially, I thought AEW leaned a lot more to spontaneous matches while WWE was more focused on storytelling. Cutting talents is another big one, a lot of unused talents won’t be happy but it be the first step in Tony Khan making a business decision if he wants to succeed. They have a decent time slot with it being on Wednesday but Friday Rampage is nearly pointless with it being only an hour AND having a time slot right after Smackdown makes it harder for viewers to stay interested. Personally, I would move it an hour before Smackdown starts and lengthen it to an hour and half. Rampage and Dynamite should both have some kind of main goal (hard to find the right word.). Like how at one point, Raw was the flagship show, which was home to big names of WWE, while SD was more filled with upcoming stars mixed with mega stars to help get them over and carry the show if needed. Dynamite could be more for storytelling, while rampage could be more match focus or tying up those loose ends before a PPV; it could from a promo segment to a star needing to win a high stake match before a major PPV.

    Tony Kahn is a huge part of the problem. He's trying to book 4 shows a week by himself (Dynamite, Rampage, Collision, and ROH) and NO ONE does that, even Vince had help. He needs some more people working with him behind the scenes to make these shows better. Another issue is his Twitter rants. I think a huge issue with AEW is that they don't stick to their homegrown talents. They'd rather just push indie guys to the moon over and over again and pay no attention to building new stars. The reason WWE succeeded for so long was that they kept their older guys relevant and used them to create new stars for the future. RA era is a prime example of that, as some of the biggest stars in WWE came from that era. AEW does not need old, established indy/ex-WWE talent. They need new blood. And they don't understand that.

    What sealed the deal for me about AEW's work culture was not the story behind Cody's WWE return or CM Punk's backstage stuff. It was William Regal's departure. The moment when most of the young, up and coming roster were not listening to a true legend and ring general who has been praised everywhere he has been, you just know that there is too much ego in that locker and surely, the higher-ups are allowing it to fester. I wanted to get involved and watch AEW because my interest in the WWE was no longer there when NXT rebranded in 2021. I felt the WWE was going down the toilet after NXT had re-branded in 2021, that period of 2015 to 2021 of NXT was the best thing the WWE had at the time. Also, guys like Adam Cole, Daniel Bryan and CM Punk had signed to AEW in the same time period which had me interested. Finding out that in order to watch AEW's PPV's along with there weekly shows, would require extra money needed in able to watch them live or to be replayed. That was a factor as to why I never watched AEW and had my interest gone, but also. It's no longer a surprise when an ex WWE wrestler signs with AEW. If AEW had a similar network to the WWE where weekly shows like Dynamite, Rampage and there PPVs where all included in one package without paying extra money. I would be watching AEW instead of WWE, but now Triple H has been in charge of creative for the past 18 months, I've been more invested and interested in what the WWE has been doing creatively

    It can go back but some stuff needs to change mainly actual writers instead if basically just TK doing it, TK being more of a boss than a friend, and toning down the WWE references alot maybe to one or 2 per year. AEW is basically at their or nearing their post Mankind winning the WWE championship phase that WCW was in which after they announced Mankind was winning the WWE championship on air WCW basically turned to dust in the Monday night wars. Don't get me wrong I enjoy AEW but it doesn't feel the same since it first started. Another issue could be that ever since Triple H took control of creative in WWE WWE basically got better.

    Why does AEW have to beat WWE? Why does it have to be bigger than WWE in your eyes to accomplish what it wants? It's a show that isn't PG, for a different audience, it's also a relatively young business trying to grow. Let it be, it's healthy competition, even if they're the little guys right now, its a different audience.

    Long-time fan. Here are my thoughts: 1. The product went down several notches when CM Punk arrived. Yes, not what you were expecting to here. Once he joined, the show became much more promo heavy and it was jarring. MJF is part of the problem, even if he is top tier on the mic. Cody Rhodes was bad for this too. The show was best before these three dominated the mic. It felt like AEW was trying to match WWE and went away from what made them unique. 2.Dynamite was consistently good for a long time but had a bad spell which lasted about six months. Since then it's been solid but there are obviously problems outside of the match quality. 3. AEW can be the mecca of international wrestling and hard hitting matches. Featuring stars from around the world and styles as well. This is what makes AEW strong and unique. 4. Putting the priority on the wrong people. The factions era got stale and went on way too long. Not using Miro, Archer, etc more is criminal. And Big Bill being tossed across the ring by Hook is absolutely unbelievable and terrible. AEW has so many stars that it seems they cannot take many losses, and therefor don't get used at times. I think instead they should use their best wrestlers often and let them lose more, creating an overall stronger and more competitive and unpredictable environment. It is boring when all the matches are predictable and it's very feast or famine. A top tier NBA team still loses 20-30 games a year and wrestlers can be used this way too in such an elite roster.

    I would have had on the list: 2022 Back in 2021 Tony Khan was coming out every once in a while with a big announcement - like a special episode of Dynamite or he was going to announce a big new signing... Each time he did this it was to a big pop from the fans in attendance and the TV ratings would go up. It wasn't too long in to 2022 when Tony pretty much had a big announcement, a big return, a big signing, a big debut or it was a special episode of Dynamite week after week and fans could see the problem: it didn't really matter if he announced one of your favorites as his big new signing and "_____ is ALL ELITE" because he would go on to use them poorly (they show up, crowd gives big pop, they probably appear on the next 2 episodes of Dynamite and then they get put on the back burner because there've been other new signings since and he has to get back to his main roster). It'd be like if you celebrate time with a new girlfriend by marking your 1 month, 3 month, 6 month and 1 year anniversary - shows her you think she is special and it'll melt her heart... but if it was week after week and got to: "Honey, I know I said 46 was amazing, 45 was special, 44 was wowee and so on... but Happy 47th week anniversary!" she would think you are an idiot and going too far.

    I think the problem is simply the bloom coming off the rose. They haven't really done much different, as the focus is almost entirely on matches with as little story as possible. AEW succeeded not because of anything Tony did, but because the core fanbase was tired of Vince's bad mid-2010s booking. When Vince was pushed out the first time, the fans stopped being as forgiving of AEW. Then we have the idiocy that led to CM Punk being pushed out of the company right as Vince was pushed out again, this time for good. Where are the "compelling characters" you speak of? Everything about AEW is matches with minimal story. Though maybe that's a good thing, as an elementary school-level story with MJF is ruining the Devil. Well, I tell a lie, one thing has changed. In the beginning, AEW was all about young and new talent. Now, they've fallen into the trap of being the WWE's retirement home. Why the hell is Ric Flair of all people there? And Adam Copeland? I love Edge as much as the next guy, but dude's there to get a check and play with Christian. Seems anyone who's available who has a name Tony's heard of is going to get offered millions, and that's not good business.

    Decided to google Tony Khan based off the comments and the first thing to come up is a new story from the last few days of shea jackson (ice cubes kid) saying he wishes he could get into aew but finds the story impenetrable without absurd levels of obscure knowledge about all the wrestlers that no one is actually mentioning in the show itself. And on top of that when he asks for guidance or clarification, he’s met with condecession and gate keeping. So how does Tony Kahn respond? By saying “that’s too bad, maybe one day you’ll learn how to enjoy more than one kind of wrestling”. And to me that kinda says it all. People are offering actual advice on how to make your product more approachable and appealing, things you need to grow and audience, and he’s just rejecting it like it’s a personal attack. I’ve watched enough episodes of Gordon Ramsey kitchen nightmares to know how that ends up.

    I think AEW struggles to build sustainable stars in its own Universe, especially on the women' side. WWE's Britt Baker would've got every chance in the world to be its own super-superstar. Instead, she doesn't get consistent exposure to br ehat she could've been. Maxwell could've sided with other wrestlers in storylines to get his career better on a long term, at a The Rock, Hogan or Cena level. Instead, he gets to be everybody's enemy. Not sustainable long-term. To summarize, AEW has a deep roster, but they don't know what to do with them, long-term. And that will hurt the company down the strretch. (Don't let TK be a pale copy of McMahon, too) Plus, assuming it's only coincidental, but Triple H getting full creative control of the E and what he's doing with it, it hurts All Elite, a lot.

    I think it is fair to say that given how WWE has a long legacy of eating the competition, commentators will make videos with titles like these. Still, it's far too early to judge AEW as in decline. The wrestling is SOLID. And agreed, it needs work in the entertainment/story department where WWE has always flourished. But wrestling is greater with strong competition, and so far AEW has proven to be a strong competitor. (Side note: CM Punk sounds crazy difficult to work with and AEW proved he wasn't bigger than the brand. That takes balls if you consider the fans' response since his WWE return).

    I really liked AEW in the beginning. It positioned itself very clever between WWE and Indie-Wrestling, which gave it a very distinct feeling. It had also a good mix of established and fresh talents. In the last 1-2 years they tried too hard to be like WWE, had too many title-belts and shows. In addition there was some weird booking. The handling of ROH was also very poor. I think they should have kept ROH completely apart from AEW and when you have these crossovers it actually feels special. I think it can become a good product again but it requires some hard decisions. Focus only on Dynamite (dump the rest), make ROH it's own thing with very few AEW crossovers (and if they can't, just sell ROH), reduce the amount of title-belts and bring back that healthy mix of young and "old" talents.
