The Ryobi 36v Blower Vac I DIDN'T need!
A quick video about why I updated my 18v leaf blower to a new 36v Blower Vac, and why I absolutely didn't need to do it. Not to worry though, it's still a great product - Just not for the purpose I wanted it for.

Thanks mate. I was planning to buy a leaf vacuum to get rid of gumtree leaves. I wasn't sure how leaf vacuum would perform. Your demonstration helped. Saved my money.

Recent subscriber and really enjoying your no nonsense down to earth reviews. I did have the 36v ryobi blower and yes it’s a beast compared to the 18v one that I currently own. I’m currently eyeing off the new 18v brushless mower.

Thanks! Glad to hear you're enjoying the videos! The new mower range certainly look very good! I'll be interested to hear what you think of it if you pick one up!

Quick update , I ended up picking the 18v brushless mower kit with included 6ah battery and charger. Got to use it yesterday and so far very impressed with built quality and cut. It can run off a single 18v battery , but does have an extra slot for additional battery , which I understand improves run time and torque .

@@hiltonr1845 Excellent! What type of grass are you cutting, and at what height? Glad it's been a successful purchase so far! 👌
Great video. For me, in situations where the mower alone doesn't pick up everything, a decent quality Blower with a narrow nozzle followed by the lawn mower with either a catcher or mulch plug does the trick.

Definitely mate, I used my old 18v blower the other day to run the narrow nozzle along the edge of the lawn to flick out all the thatch and junk after doing the edges. Then ran a strip down with the mower to clean it all up. Very effective way of tidying up edges and leaf litter. 🤙
Thanks mate, that was a brilliant demo

I bought it to vacuum leaves out of Mary River Pebble that’s been put on garden beds. Or leaves on compacted mulch. Try doing that with the mower.

Glad you found a good use for it! As I say in the video, it obviously has a place, but didn't work for what I needed 👍
I don’t think I’d be mowing twice. I’d be sticking with the electric mower only and to heck with the roller mower. 👍 Thanks for video as I am considering a vac for concrete paths up the side of the house where the neighbours dirty hibiscus and lilly pillys constantly drop crap on my side of the fence. Need a blower too, so I’ll probably grab one of these. Thanks for making the vid

I got the VAC and I am doing al the leaves on the veranda, in the corners, in between rocks and steps, in front of our house, where the leaf is on pavement, flying around and using a brush is not helping while some wind is blowing. Yes, the battery is really eaten up by this thing, but to clean between the rocks for example, there is no option with anything but a VAC. So I think you need the right use case for this VAC 🙂

Exactly right mate, I'm positive plenty of people will get good use out of it... just not what I had intended it for! I still use it as a blower after I do the mowing, and Vac the small sections of my deck etc. 👌
Great video thanks!
I have the ozito and it’s the same thing but cheaper I got it from Bunnings for $59 no battery just cord it’s good as the ryobi 👍
Thanks mate. Good info. Two questions please: Your method of dealing with the lawn leaves is clearly better than the vacuum, but do you see a use case for the vacuum dealing with tighter spaces? I have leaves falling on flower beds and low hedges etc. And you otherwise sold on 36v vs 18 for garden gear? I use Ryobi 18 for power tools but leaning towards 36 for garden. Maybe even 56 volt Ego since garden will be a different battery system anyway.

Hi mate, yep 100% can see the vac being useful for other conditions, like yours, and hard surfaces (narrow paths beside houses, decks, tennis courts etc). The vac worked as intended, it was just my specific application that didn't use it to it's potential. And yeah, I think the 18v stuff is drastically underpowered and underperforming for lawn care. The wood/metal/shop/home tools are all excellent uses for 18v. But I reckon (for what my opinion is worth) 36v or more is required for mowers, edgers, hedgers etc. I'm currently considering a swap to Greenworks or Ego for the 40v (36), and 60v(56) equipment.
Have you tried picking up the leaves with the Allett Liberty and scarifier cartridge? Just raise the height. Yeah yeah, I know, I'm obsessed 🙂😆 P.s. your very good at video content 👌 Your a natural ✨️....

Hi mate, thanks for the kind words! 👍. Yeah, I have used the scarifier cartridge to clean up the leaves. It works well enough, but unfortunately the battery life of the machine means if I do that, I have to be conservative with the battery to then mow the yard. Could be resolved by buying another battery, I suppose! 😊
I'm intrigued to see how well it vacs up if you were to blow all the leaves into one big pile, I'm debating about buying it. I have a tree along my fence line leaves big piles

I tested that method at another property I look after. It worked better than trying to vacuum them all individually, but still was a bit of an arduous task if I'm honest. I really wanted it to work, but couldn't find a method worth the time/effort.
You may find it kore efficient to blow the leaves to a pile then change to vac
Just bought one … I feel like the corded 2400w blower is more powerful than 36v blower and vac 😓

Yeah... She's not great. I replaced mine with the 36v Jet blower jobby, and I'm absolutely stoked with that one.
My ryobi mower leaves clippings etc all over the lawn as does my whipper snipper and I was thinking the vacuum might be good at getting that stuff up, did you try it on grass clippings etc?
@thelionlawn
2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, yep that's almost exclusively what I use it for now. I run the rotary scissors around the edges, and then use the vacuum to pick up all the clippings, then flick it to the blower and blow all the clippings off the cylinder mower. Works fine for those two jobs. 👌🤙

@@thelionlawn brilliant, thank you. Now to decide between the 18v and 36v models!
These things happen when we work stuff out trial and error .... i was interested to see why the blower wasnt any good but realised it is... i use mine for a brick tiled patio and carport. I find sometimes the bulk gets stuck in the funnel though if you have any tips there? Ie the leaves dont seem to be catching in the attached bag?

G'day - Exactly, the blower is perfectly good... I just didn't need it. Haha. I generally just use it as a blower now, so can't offer much with regards to the vac clogging unfortunately. Perhaps too much moisture in the leaves, causing them to pulp, rather than mulch? Just a thought.

Would you happen to know how to remove the vacuum component? Im trying to remove mine with unlock switch but the tube wont come off?
@thelionlawn

@@rqn1998 You unscrew the thumb screw on top completely, and then slide the unlock bit, and lift the tube off. The grate with the thumb screw then folds back down and covers the mulching blades.

I mean, both have their purposes. While I don’t like many things about the vac, my mower also does not work that well for leaves, and the vac does a better job, even with it’s faults. Mower is a good mower tho. But it does a much better job at cutting grass than sucking up leaves. Maybe if you’re already cutting grass, so the leaves are at higher level.. But on flat mowed grass? Nope.

Yeah of course mate, there's obviously a good bunch of uses for the blower vac, and I have found its good for sucking up the grass after I've done the edges. But for what I initially thought I'd use it for, not so much.

Just get a decent blower with a narrow nozzle attachment. Blow the leaves into small piles and then run the lawn mover over them. Works regardless of how short the grass is. Don't know what sort of mower you use but my old Victa 4 stroke will easily suck up leaves off hard surfaces like concrete driveways and timber decks.
Would be interesting to see the difference in battery use if you used the blower to get all the leaves in a pile/small area and then vacuum them up. Had a 240v version of that blower/vac combo back in the day and it was quite good at sucking up bulky piles of leaves.
@thelionlawn

Hi mate, I didn't think to check the battery use doing it that way, but I did try that method first. Unfortunately blowing leaves into a pile is like herding cats. I seemed to chase them all over the yard. That's probably more a comment on my skill/ability rather than the performance of the blower tho! 😂
I think you are one of like 2% of the entire world population that hangs their lawnmower up.☺😂
