Among the ancient Finns their God of War was named "Turisas" or "Tursas". He was a grim deity, also associated with pestilence.

4:43 Thanks for pointing this out about Thor. Everybody seems to forget that most Norse myths pretty much end with 'and then Thor flipped out and killed everybody with a hammer'.

  • 6 жыл бұрын

haha it's true, when norse mythlogical accounts took such proportions that it was impossible for the gods to have victory, or when no one could make a decent end to the story, Thor comes and it's done.

The thunder and lightning started as soon as I began to watch this which was extra impressive! Well done with your explanations they are never boring, stupidly hippyish nor patronizing. You give respect to the runes and the listener equally. I thank you once again for your time and effort.

Thank you! I recently found myself on hard times and asked the runes what it was I needed to focus on. I pulled Thurisaz and being relatively new to the runes, this explanation helped me with what it is I need to do and focus on. Thanks again and may the gods be with you.

I know the whole "the stave form of this rune represents Mjolnir" idea is very popular, but consider this. Orion is one of the largest constellations in the night sky. Orion is generally depicted with either a club, a sword, an axe, etc. Many other such storm deities like this (Perun for example). Remember, Thor needs his belt in order to be able to wield Mjolnir. There are EXACTLY three stars in Orion's belt. The stave form of Thurisaz isn't Mjolnir, it's Megingjörð.

I just had the following insight: If "Thoughtgiants" and "titanic feelings" within the mind are fighting each other (if not the mind itself is a huge giant) then it's useless to mentally jump between the fronts or you risk getting destroyed. My advice: Follow the advice of the rune, do nothing, don't judge, just watch. This aspect makes the rune a rune of protection because you don't throw yourself into the storm; you move into the eye of the storm. This concept is also strongly inspired by the concept of the Inner Watcher.

Thurs as I've learned over the years is the embodiment of balance in the universe. The thursar and Thor being the "checks and balances" of the world. As it relates to the thorn which is its natural shape, a thorn is one of nature's defence systems. It offers protection and can also cause pain. Great video.

Arith your explanation of the Runes would make for a good study especially for people new to the runes. A publication that I have found useful over the years is Runes For Transformation by Kaedrich Olsen. I hasten to add that in no way am I recommending this work to everyone that may read this because we all take different inspirations on our individual paths, that suit our personalities and our needs but some may find it useful.

Thank you for your work, Arith. I have also read about the meaning of Thurs as a gate, doorway. It also appears in rune magic scripts that, for example, are used to to clean the house(person) of negative entities, so it apparently can "open the gate" to the other world where they came from. Could you comment on that. Gods be with you

  • @justyeeeeeetit

    @justyeeeeeetit

    2 жыл бұрын

It does look like a key. I'm no expert but if you get that hunch I would say follow your intuition. Though opening of magical gates, using sigils is very 'high magik' and I wouldn't suggest doing so without being experienced. Ha I was reading a book about gates, Babylonian gods, and the cover of the book is a gate. Left the book out, cover facing up & wouldn't you know it guess who showed up in my room later? Surrounding my bed were figures in black cloaks of different sizes. I said hello to the smaller one near my bed & it replied back with 'hello' with the voice of a nazgul from lord of the rings. I wouldn't hold fear, but decided that I didn't want whatever the hell they were in my room (I'm guessing the gate keepers). I called in Thor.. heard a rumbling in the distance like a storm on the horizon.. and then a crack of thunder.. and they were gone! Thor is so cool he has protected me from so many unwanted entities :)

Can you refer me to some good literature regarding bindrunes?

  • 6 жыл бұрын

About Bindrunes it's difficult to find, I can advise you to search for Mindy MacLeod's works. But the knowledge of Bindrunes comes from the runes themselves. You can make infinite combinations (but I advise making bindrunes out of only 2 or 3 runes, no more), and you create the meaning according to what each rune represents. Inverted runes give a whole diferent meaning, size, position etc.

My birth rune is thurisaz and I’ve found that I avoid conflict and anger and focus on psychology and philosophical questions so what does that mean exactly I’ve only recently picked up on asatru and I’ve been doing research on the norse religion I’ve wanted to bind myself to Odin but this tell me Thor may be a better choice although in my experience Odin has interacted with me and shown interest so I bind myself to both Thor and Odin seeing as I value wisdom but also force and resistance? I am fairly confused and seek more information

Thank you. "Rip, thorn. Ragged, drawn out tear in the fabric. Gaping black out of which monsters (can) come. White teeth, cat teeth, sharks, or the horns of a bull. Wrathful, seriously pissed, lightning hurled down in irritation, flat, hard ramming. Then, silence to lick the wounds and wait until the beep subsides. The Thurisaz rune initiates the world into the heart of a man, the awesomeness he loves in youth so as to not grow cowardly in age. Memory of disorienting rattling and wounds, a leg stuck to a spike, sudden blood, mesmerizing pain that forgets the future and becomes the now. The blow of the axe, the small setback in the weaving of a fine fabric. The error around which we seek for re-perfection. In this sense Thurisaz is the father to god or the religious instinct. But it is not the religious instinct, rather the opposite. That which ruptures and ravishes before the maiden ready. Cruel bindings, love of life's zig-zag motions, a too sharp curve in a roller-coaster, a voice breaking, becoming hoarse and truthful. A nail struck right on the head. A single hailstone that comes through the roof and splits the table, shattering the grails and goblets, then laughter and wine and gratitude for life."

So after a Yule ritual I did at a friends place, a guy I hardly knew gifted me with a handcrafted ceremonial hammer (that he made out of the 3# mallet I'd used). The hammer features Thurasaz prominently. But. It is in reverse position... He is not a student of the runes. I hadnt the heart to point out that after all the work he'd done working the rune into the face of the metal hammer, that it was reversed. Consequently, I've taken to using it only for display at Yule and in a position where the rune is correctly oriented. Ive shied away from both ceremony and energy work with it.... Thoughts?
