    Ninh explains the Rules of NASCAR Racing. I know a lot of NASCAR fans hate the new rules and the playoff system, but I honestly don’t mind it. It solved a lot of the problems that NASCAR had, but it caused some bigger ones - mot notably alienating the current fanbase. A couple of minor errors in this one, notably regarding the % of laps per stage and there's not carburettors any more. But overall I did the best I could on this before NASCAR decides to change the rules … again.

    Hey Barr Cola Banter. Initially I was an F1 fan religiously. But after spending a season and a half watching it religiously and looking into the science behind what they do and why they do it - it's actually an interesting art and a science. It's more than 3 dimensional - you have to affect the aerodynamics of not just your car, but your opponents car - do you stay behind, or do you just crash them out of the way? It's actually quite ingenious. The same cannot be said about F1 - which has all but become a parade unless F1 change the rules to make it fairer on anyone.

    It's not my favourite thing in the world - but I don't think it's as bad as everyone is making out. I personally think NASCAR needs to overhaul the entire thing with a new guy at the top. Go back to what works but put a spin on it. I understand why they're doing it this way - but to carry on with a format that clearly isn't working is really flogging a dead horse.

    Being 54 now and a lifelong NASCAR fan, I can't say how much I love he Playoff format. Although condensed in time, the NASCAR playoffs are just like any other professional sport. Say you are a top runner and have a green flag pit lane speeding penalty at the beginning of a race? In previous format, kiss that race goodbye as the days of front runners leading the race by numerous laps, 13 being the most I believe, maybe Ned Jarrett in late 60s, is no longer. There is so much parity in the equipment so the top runner in the scenario above woulfd have no chance, especially if the race went mostly green. Now, the splitting the race into segments closes he field up, allows for adjustments, no different than the breaks in between quarters in any number of sporting events. Take a break, gather your thoughts and formulate a plan moving forward. This puts so much more strategy into the race and manufactured or not, in my opion than watching Richard Petty run rings around the field with absolutely no doubt about how the race was going to end. Just my opinion of course and I absolutely respect yours. As a follow up, I give me great pleasure to to have the best NASCAR rules video narrated by a Brit! Loved it. Like from Tulsa, OK USA.

    @@NinhLyUK OOOOhhhh... Please elaborate. For me, the simplest thing to do is to give Cup cars composite bodies. This BS in which a minor rub causes a tire to go down has to stop. Slows down the races with too many cautions for this alone. Whatcha think?

  • @HayTatsuko

    @HayTatsuko

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@ChuckHickl I have no qualms about these changes, as a long-time fan. Making strategy more of a thing is good -- it's long been what I love about the sport, along with the element of luck. Composite bodies gets a second from me. I watched a race recently in which one driver's car basically had, after minor contact with another, turned into a terrifying can-opener for opponents' tires, with a nasty jag of metal sticking out from a fender. Nothing bad actually came of it, but the potential for disaster was real.

    Great video. Excellent explanation of the basics of NASCAR. To those who wish to know, these are the other flags used in NASCAR: - Red: Same as F1. Stops the race under unsafe driving conditions. - Blue with a Yellow Stripe: Same as the Blue flag in F1. Used to signal to lapped drivers that a faster car is approaching. - Red and Yellow Striped Flag: Same as F1. Signals slippery track conditions. Only used on road courses. Generally the yellow flag is thrown instead on ovals to clean an oil spill. Black Flag: Unlike in F1, the black flag doesn't signal a disqualification. It instead signals to a driver to return to the pits to either service a mechanical problem (black flag with orange dot in F1) or to serve a penalty (black and white flag in F1. Black Flag with White Saltire: This is the equivalent of a black flag in F1. Typically thrown due to a driver ignoring a NASCAR black flag. Driver is no longer scored until they come into the pits and serve their penalty. Red Flag with Yellow Saltire: Signals that the pits are closed. This is typically done after a yellow flag is thrown to prevent drivers from flooding the pit lane immediately after a caution starts. White Flag: Unlike in F1, which typically uses this flag to signal that an emergency vehicle or other slower vehicle is on the track, the white flag signals the leader has started the final lap of the race. Blue Flag: Only used on road courses. This signals to the other drivers that the course is partially blocked or stopped cars are on the course. Similar to a yellow flag in F1, although penalties may not be assessed for overtaking in such an area like they would be in F1. Also, unlike in F1, the yellow flag automatically results in a full course caution. All drivers must immediately slow down and file in order behind the pace car (safety car in F1). Just like in F1, no overtaking is allowed during this period.

    As a NASCAR fan, I must say, this video was very spot on. Though technically, NASCAR is a sanctioning body for the sport of stock car racing (National Assoication for Stock Car Auto Racing), not a sport in of it's self. NASCAR sanctions hundreds of races a year, all across the United States, Mexico, Canada, and even Europe. The three main NASCAR national touring series are the Cup Series (the big series that everyone thinks of immediately when you say NASCAR), the Xfinity Series (Think Formula 2 to the Cup Series' Formula 1), and the Truck Series. (Another feeder series running modified pick up trucks). Also, in Cup, they haven't run carburetors since 2011, ever since the 2012 Daytona 500, all NASCAR Cup Series cars now run Electronic Fuel Injection

  • @NinhLyUK

    Thanks man. I understand that NASCAR is just an organisation, but realistically people will be searching for 'NASCAR rules', not 'Stock Car Racing Rules'. I also won't be calling my F1 video: "The Rules of Single Seat Car Racing" - nobody will be searching for that! I should have talked about the different series for sure, and I did make a mistake about carburettors, which is addressed on the top comment. As for this season - I've got money on Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer to win it all. What do you think? Thanks again for your input.

Anyone who is reading this should try to go to a nascar race in person it is literally a 3 day party and the ticket to the race lets you camp out in the camping area were you will find thousands of people partying hard and it's amazing. I sincerely thank you for this excellent video for NASCAR begginers. I recently began watching NASCAR races and I love them. Now I understand more of this awsome american motor sport. Please can I ask you a couple of questions? About the Pace Car in two situations: 1) When a stage is finished and Pace Car comes to the track: How many laps does the Pace Car have to drive before the new stage starts? 2) When an accident happens,...Caution, yellow flag and Pace Car comes to the track...is there any mandatory number of laps that the Pace Car must drive before restarting? Thanks in advance, Regards.

  • @NinhLyUK

    @NinhLyUK

    Thanks Daniel. As for the questions 1) Depends on why a pace car is needed. But it's usually three or four laps - though depending on the incident depends on how many laps the pace car does. 2) See above.

    @@NinhLyUK Loved it bro and just what we need to help people who might be curious about NASCAR to get a framework of the rules, nor more nor less complex than any other racing series. Not to put you on the spot, but even after being a NASCAR fan for 40 odd years, I still don't understand all the rules, mainly for pit stops. Not the pit stop itself, over the wall penalties (too soon or too many), uncontrolled tire stuff, etc, but more on specific situations like when a driver comes in for a pit stop under a green flag and then a cation happens while he's still in the pits. What role does the Pace Car play and how do they realign the field when they come out? When some come in at the stage end and some stay out how is that clarified? I know these questions are detailed, but given the clarity of this video, I say keep them coming and make it the absolute One Stop spot on the internet for NASCAR rules.

    I like to think that the stage system is NASCAR's answer to the multiple races that V8 Supercars (and a few other series) run at a single venue during a race weekend. It does lead to some really odd points results, though -- it's entirely possible for someone to not win the race, but to win the season points for that race, and for multiple other drivers to score higher season points than the actual winner I started watching in 1993, well before the playoff system and stage racing were a thing. There were some seasons with lots of drama right up to the end. I regret that I didn't start watching a year earlier, because the 1992 finale, Hooters 500, is one of the greatest NASCAR races of all time. However, there were also seasons in which the champion earned the title with several races remaining. The only drama left was in seeing where others would place in the final standings. In terms of tradition -- yeah, playoffs and stages stink. But in terms of FUN , at least for me, they really hit the spot. It gives underdogs the chance to shine, and good drivers with bad luck a chance to redeem their seasons. I'll always be a sucker for Cinderella stories and epic comebacks. The playoff system provides chances for both. I can dig it.

    To put it simply on the flags: Green flag: Start or restart the race. Yellow flag: Caution due to an accident or debris on the track (In other words, car should slow down and follow pace car). Red flag: Stop on the track at a designated area. Black flag: The driver the flagman waves to must get off the track (Either the driver did something bad or the car doesn't fit to be on the track). Blue flag with diagonal yellow stripe: Alerts the driver that a faster, lead lap car is boutta pass the driver and must yield to the car. White flag: Final lap (Its as simple as that). Checkered flag: Finish (Its as simple as that x2). Green-white-checkered flag: End of Stage 1 or Stage 2.

    Correction: Stock cars are not modified from passenger cars in any way. They're silhouette cars, with body panels attached to a space frame chassis to roughly resemble production cars in general. The specific shape of the car is somewhat narrowly defined in the rules, so they can't all resemble specific production cars. In touring car and sports car racing, cars are homologated as variants of production road-going cars.

  • @NinhLyUK

    @NinhLyUK

    5 жыл бұрын

    Fully aware of that. Traditionally they were modified versions of passenger cars (win on Sunday, sell on Monday) but nowadays, they're anything but. I put that in to eliminate people asking me what sort of cars those are without having to explain that they're purpose built but vaguely resemble production cars.
