Most guitarists of Glam were awesome even if their music didn't often exemplify their talent. C.C. Deville, Ritchie Sambora, Nuno Bettancourt, Mick Mars, etc. So many of these guys are amazing but people overlook them cuz they were part of glam.

As a fan of glam metal, that is a great list. Here's a bunch more 101: Change your sound sometime around 1993-1994, saying that the change occurred organically and had nothing to do with sales 102: Go back to the original sound when the new sound doesn't help your sales 103: Fire/Break up with at least one of your band members in the late 80's or early 1990's. 104: Trash that band member in the press constantly 105: Reunite with that band member in the late 90's 106: Get used to playing bards and clubs in the mid and late 1990's 107: Co-headline package tours with other glam bands, so that you can play arenas and sheds again 108: Do package tours in the 21st century with bands you considered too "soft" in the 80's (like Journey, Styx, REO) 109: Be made fun of on Beavis and Butthead 110: If you get to headline arenas or sheds, use as much pyro and lasers as possible 111: Groupies, groupies groupies 112: STDs, STDs STDs 113: Start a feud with someone else in the music industry 114: Blame record execs/MTV for your most recent album not making the Billboard 100 115. Cut at least one interview in the 1990's where you complain about the song that made you a hit band in the first place. 116: Keep playing that song live. 117: Date/marry the model in your video 118: Break up with the model within two years 119: Have at least one sex tape leaked to the public 120: Be on a reality show or judge a music context show (2000 forward) 121. From 2000 forward, do the same live setlist, with minimal variation and almost no deep cuts. 122: Get arrested at least once, but manage to get little to now jail time

Admittingly a sucker for glam metal just can't get enough of the catchy hooks, big riffs and crazy solos lol yes the makeup and androgynous clothings were ridiculous but I'd put this over any form of mainstream music nowadays...we can't deny that the proto hair metal bands most notably Van Halen, Motley Crue, Dokken. Quiet Riot and Def Leppard took heavy metal to the mainstream and glam metal took over a huge chunk of the 80s from 83 up til 91 (arguably the longest time metal had been in the mainstream eye). Thanks to the rise of glam metal, more styles of metal came out in the 80s including thrash metal. It's really an underrated and overlooked genre.

Whitesnake: formed in 1978 in England. Dokken were Americans but they grew a following in Germany before getting a recording contract. Ratt, Crue, and WASP were at the beginning of the LA movement. 10 extra rules of Glam Metal for 7-string guitarists. 1. Make sure you tune down your G-string 2. Make sure it doesn't sound Djent-esque at all. 3. Write lyrics that are electric-blues-inspired. 4. Make the riffs so heavy and so soul-sounding. 5. Make it sound similar to "Slip Of The Tongue" by Whitesnake. 6. Dye your hair. 7. Don't compete with other guitarists. 8. Show the world who you are. 9. Become so famous everybody recognizes on VH1. 10. Never, never stop to play for anybody!

As a guitar player I have to stand up for bands like Ratt, Dokken, Kingdom Come, L.A. Guns, and yes, even Winger- who were all solid in the music dept. Sure, there were awful pop bands like Poison, but there's trash and treasure in every genre. Also, W.A.S.P.'s 1st LP is blacker, rawer, and more hellish than most black metal. Overall glam isn't my favorite genre, but the best bands it had to offer deserve more respect than they get. Besides, aren't black metal and viking metal just as OTT and image driven in their own way?
