The Rule Change That DESTROYED Formula 1
Спорт
In todays video I wanted to talk a little bit about, what I believe is, one of the worst rule's ever implemented for Formula 1. I'm talking of course about the 2005 rule banning in race tire changes that, make no mistake about it, were done only to stop Ferrari after their dominance in the early 2000's.

Big factual error right at the start mate! Back then it was the 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 ,1 points system. Kimi would NOT have led the championship if he'd won this race. Not even close. :)

I didn't know the details but I was surprised to hear that kimie could possibly have been in the lead?

Also, both FOM and the FIA were clear at the time that he was free to change the tyres if they believed it were a safety issue, and this has been talked about and clarified over and over. There was never any question that he was allowed to change tyres. They chose to keep him out and not risk dropping to 3rd.

@@buenosloco4805 I mean in their defense we wouldn't know jack about nascar either. But yeah, in general the american public don't know a lot about a sport that is primarily european so relax a bit and just laugh it out. I remember talking to an american friend about the 2010 european grand prix where mark webber crashed which confused him as he said: "aren't all european grand prixs european?"
Hey mate. Before 2010 the points system was 1-10, not the 1-25 we see today, so Kimi was actually dragging waaaaaaaaay behind Fernando by the time his tyre blew out
Sorry if this video looks a little rough around the edges. I made it look as clean as I could, will try and make the next one better as always! ❤ There were quite a few firsts for me this time around

Some of this happened shortly before I became a big fan. My following of Formula 1 came when vettel 1 the first race for redbull
Quite a big issue right at the beginning of this video. Only 10 points were awarded for winning a race in 2005. The points system didn’t change to 25 until 2010, also Alonso was running p2 behind Kimi so there’s no way Kimi would have left the Nurburgring leading the championship anyway.
Really like your videos, mate. The problematic car videos are exactly the kind of content I want to see. This tyre video was also quite interesting. Looking forward to the videos you'll create in the future
2005 was the revenge for the FIA fucking up the season in 2003, and man did Ferrari deserve it
Really like your videos, talking about the little things that others youtubers don't . they are always talking about the big teams only.
He deserves more credit than he deserves rn
Very high quality video and you just gained a subscriber
Its is wild that they made this rule just to stop one man and one team but they would not do it for a nother man and another team. It would be crasy to see the people go roge when this would have happend to lewis hamilton. At least ferrari got its redamtion in the 2005 usa gp.
Love your videos man, though I've never heard someone pronounce Villeneuve as villenerve before xD Best way to pronounce it would be ville-nuv
Was watching the F1 live stream of Imola 2005 and omds the tyre rule was so stupid, it just limited strategy so much.
Wasn't part of the WSMC's idea or the TWG to put wings at the rea wheels? I remember something like that from Autosport around that time and thinkin how stupid it looked, how it would affect the racing. Then you had the Jacques Villeneuve licensed game that came out with similar looking cars and that just confirmed how stupid the idea looked...
Räikkönen's suspension failure was nasty, but it was a bit of an anomaly. Usually the tires were very durable in 2005 and even when they started to degrade, like what happened to Alonso and Fisichella in Monaco that year, the tires were safe. Actually, the ban on tire changes produced some interesting races and a new World Champion, as Bridgestone surprisingly couldn't make a tire that was both fast and consistent, so I wouldn't say it was a total disaster. I'm happy tire changes were allowed again the following year, but 2005 still feels like a special season.
Nice Video, Just subscribed
0:34 And Montoya at Monza suffered the same problem, but managed to go till the end and win the race
Who does your research? McLaren could’ve pit in that Nürb ‘05 race, they chose not to, for the win. And it was 10 points for a win back then, not 25.
The only time pitstops made Ferrari faster
So after 2017 the drivers became super human to handle the cornering speeds?
I’m pretty sure Kimi would have been allowed to pit because of the vibrations, if I remember the commentators actually said he should have pitted for the points.
I'm sorry for the fans, not taking the credits for how good schumi was! Buuuut, man, I whas young and that era was the most BORING time of f1 history! come on! - Also; amazing content!
Somehow i remember that mclaren decided back than against a pit stop. because of the rule brake and the consequences.
2005 il cambio gomme vietato e stata una delle decisioni peggiori mai prese dalla f1 certo le gomme sono resistenti ma vogliamo ricordare come esplodono spesso in f1
3:22 too damn fast

They did aero refresh back in 17 it should've done the trick and then 2021 with the floor changes then RB was able to take it that year then the same questions will be apparent for RB

@@erickrasniewski567Neither of those changes are comparable to these 05 ones which completely nerfed ferrari. The changes from this season meant that ferrari went from having one of the most dominant seasons ever to one in which they only had one win which was the six car farce in indianapolis.

@jeevangill2041 that I don't disagree I feel like FIA is definitely more friendly with the dominant team now then 05 was very much aimed at ferrari and I don't think we ever had something quite like that aimed at RB or Merc unless FIA blows us out of the water next year

Clickbait tittle. Would you have preferred that Ferrari would have won until 2008 with dominance like the 2004 year? That would have destroyed F1, instead we had a great battle for the Championship. 2009 rule changes and 2014 rule changes made F1 far worse... 2005-2008 are arguably the best strike of years F1 ever had.

Michael Schumacher SAVED FERRARI FROM BANKRUPT by joining them, that's the reason why Ferrari dominated until 2004 and not bankrupted. Also I miss the times when Formula 1 was actually interesting to watch.
The title is really weird. F1 wasnt destroyed. Ferrari's dominance was destroyed.

To be honest the tyre rule is the biggest nonsense ever in Formula 1. If Ferrari didn't brought Michael Schumacher, they could've announced that they're having financial troubles, so that's the reason why Ferrari dominated until 2004.

To be fair, that 2005 race set back F1’s popularity in USA by 10 years or so
The rule said that the drivers had to use the same compund of tyres they used in qualifying at the beginning of the race, the tyres changing were still allowed. Completely liar
