The Ruins of Ancient Dara, Mardin, Turkey
Dara Ancient City became an important fortress city during the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Anastasius I, at the beginning of the 6th century, in the Northern Region of Mesopotamia, at the border with Persia. The East Romans left behind rock tombs, impressive cisterns, churches. Today the ruins of ancient Dara are located in the south-eastern Anatolian province of Mardin, almost on the border with Syria.

Never heard of Dara and had been in the area to see Gobekli Tepe and Mt. Nemrut. Turkey is an underappreciated wonder, so many ancient ruins, the culture, the food and the people. Hope to go back there one day.

What I have found so very interesting in ancient cultures is that they cut big rocks with such precise accuracy that supposedly didn't exist at those times.

Turkey is a country with many historical places,some days ago,I saw a documentary about the ottoman empire,the beginning,the conquests in Constantinople,Greece,North Africa,Arab Peninsula and Balkans peninsula. The fights between the turquic peoples and persia were very common,before and after the ottoman empire,but during many years,the mongols and timurids invaded Persia,i learnt about the turquic peoples(turkish,azeris,uigurs,karachays,cossacks,kazakhs,etc) Dara was built near to the border between the east Roman empire and Sassanian empire,one of the dynasties of Persian empire,it was very important during the byzantine-sassanian war in 6th century A.C,this war lasted since 572 A.C until 591 A.C,the byzantine empire won the war and defeated the Sassanian persians. After the roman-persian war,Dara o Daras was taken by Khosraw in 604-605 A.C after 9 months of siege,finally,in 639 A.C,the arab muslims captured the city and the islam came to Anatolia and Persia...
